The idea that a school could take a role of educating each community personnel as well as students and the school building could be a center in a community is discussed in this paper. Also, as rental housings being included in the community and placed near school buildings, school facilities can be shared and cover the shortage of social welfare facilities. Thus urban social facilities including schools, social and cultural facilities, and rental housings should be planned as a bundled scheme. The objective of this Paper is to find the suitability of building a complex of school, gymnasium, cultural facilities, welfare facilities in school sites, and building rental housing in public building sites, such as cultural facilities and welfare facilities, gymnasium sites in the City of Pyeong Teak. It is found that this assumption can be proved when building a public school of 6 to 7 story or a rental apartment with a floor area ratio of 150% - 200%.

With the development of digital technology and the advent of the concept of well-being, kitchen will be worked as the center of housing and turn into multi-functional space. So a research is requested to consider the users' needs for kitchen based on their life characteristics. The purpose of this study is to find out housing lifestyles, and to search and analyze users' needs for kitchen planning according to their lifestyles. And then plans for kitchen design are suggested. The findings are as follows. (1) Housing lifestyles of users living in apartment are categorized into the type of network and trial & development, pursing the new environment and technology, the type of high quality and convenience, seeking the way to make housework easy and comfortable, the type of housework oriented and the type of unspecification. (2) The type of network and trial & development requests home automation, confrontation layout of counter-top, the type of high quality and convenience requests enlargement of kitchen space, the newest appliance and kitchen island, the type of housework oriented requests the efficiency of space utilization with a counter-top style table, and the type of unspecification asks space for study and office work. All of the types have needs for water use space, larger storing space and a Kimchi refrigerator.
This study explored measures to reduce noise applicable to Gimhae international airport centering on densely packed housing areas. Especially, as for measures to relieve noise damage on the densely packed housing areas in Gimhae-si, the noise reduction effect is expected to be doubled if the west runway (36L/18R) is used as the preferred runway for the 36 direction takeoff, as well as if the flight bypasses the densely packed housing areas by means of sophisticated navigation using the area navigation (RNAV) procedure based on performance-based navigation (PBN). Takeoff toward the south connects the flight path to the South Sea which has comparatively low noise impact, relieving noise damage on the densely packed housing areas (apartment complexes in Naeoe-dong of Gimhae-si, etc.) near the northern end of the runway. The operation of the runway displaced threshold is currently being implemented on the west runway (36L/18R) of Gimhae international airport. It has been found that swing landing in spring and summer when the wind blows from the south has a noise reduction effect on the noise sensitive areas at the side and end of the west runway (Gangdong-dong and Jukdong-dong of Gangseo-gu and Buram-dong of Gimhae-si, etc.).

Traffic safety issues have recently been seriously magnified, due to child deaths in apartment complexes and parking lots. Accordingly, traffic safety technologies are being developed to recognize dangerous situations on living roads and to provide warning services. In this study, a collision detection algorithm was developed to prevent collision accidents between moving objects, by using object type and location information provided from CCTV monitoring devices. To determine the exact collision between moving objects, an object movement model was developed to predict the range of movement by considering the moving characteristics of the object, and a collision detection algorithm was developed to efficiently analyze the presence and location of the collision. The developed object movement model as well as the collision detection algorithm were simulated, in a virtual space of an actual living road to verify performance and derive supplementary matters.

The number of households old over as much as 20 years is expected to get increased rapidly more than 1,000,000(1 million). As a measure to this fact remodeling is being revitalized over the country. parking lots expansion actually takes up a great deal of weight among the requirement for remodeling. When constructing a parking lot for enlargement, the way of going into the main building determines such construction features as selection of Retaining Wall Method, installation of an elevator, parking measure of capacity, etc. This study derived the affecting factors for selecting the way of going into the main building when constructing an underground parking lot. In a research way, we examined the features on each method of going into the main building in an apartment complex through an in-depth interview with some experts after investigating the method of enlarging an underground parking lot and going into the main building. After that, we derived the affecting factors for selecting the way of going into the main building. The affecting factors include constructability, convenience, economic efficiency as a high level as well as existence and nonexistence of basement and removal, safety of current building, parking measure of capacity, amenity, inhabitant traffic line, construction expenses and construction duration as a low one. This study will be applied as a reference for selecting the way of going into the main building when constructing an underground parking lot especially targetted on an old apartment house.

The purpose of this study is to form a calculation formula of the mean skin temperature on the human body in a heated room by the use of floor heating system. Korean traditional floor heating system is a long way from being defunct. The floor heating systems based on hot water have been coming into wide use mainly in the apartment house. However, it is considered that the design process and evaluation method for the floor heating systems in the standpoint of human being are not established so far. In the floor heating systems, air temperature as well as floor temperature should be considered as physical factors which affect the sensation of human body. Furthermore, extremely few studies have been performed on the sitting with legs crossed posture sedentary which is the typical dwelling life style of residents from the ancient times in Korea, while a large number of studies on the influence of the floor heating systems on the human body in standing and sitting on a chair sedentary have been carried out. Especially, it is essential to elucidate how mean skin temperature on the human body is affected by thermal conduction in the contact area between the sitting with legs crossed posture sedentary human body and floor including thermal radiation due to the combination of air temperature and floor temperature, but the studies dealt with such issues have hardly been performed. Based on the above statements, the influence of the environment condition due to the combination of air temperature and floor temperature is discussed in the present investigation through theoretical of mean skin temperature on the human body in the floor heating systems.
In the past, the design flow of the urban storm drainage systems has been used largely on a basis of empirical and experience, and the rational formula one of empirical method has been widely used for our country, as well as world wide. But the empirical method has insufficient factor because minimal consideration is given to the relationship of the parameters in the equation to the processes being considered, and considerable use of experience and judgment in setting values to the coefficients in the equation is made. The postcomputer era of hydrology has brought an acceleration development of mathematical methods, thus mathematical models are methods which will greatly increase our understanding in hydrology. On this study, a simple mathematical model of urban presented by British Road Research Laboratory is tested on urban watersheds in Ju An Ju Gong Apartment. The basin is located in Kan Seog Dong, Inchon. The model produces a runoff hydrograph by applying rain all to only the directly connected impervious area of the basin. To apply this model the basin is divided into contributing areas or subbasins. With this information the time area for contributing is derived. The rainfall hyetograph to design storm for the basin flow has been obtained by determination of total rainfall and the temporal distribution of that rainfall determined on the basis of Huff's method form historical rainfall data of the basin. The inflows from several subbaisns are successively routed down the network of reaches from the upstream end to the outlet. A simple storage routing technique is used which involves the use of the Manning equation to compute the stage discharge curve for the cross-section in question. To apply the model to a basin, the pattern of impervious areas must be known in detail, as well as the slopes and sizes of all surface and subsurface drains.

It is expected that the number of apartment complexes in Korea that are over 20 years old will rapidly increase to more than 3,500,000. Consequently, the remodeling of these buildings is being revitalized throughout the country. Among the requirements for such remodeling, the expansion of parking lots has considerable weight. When enlarging a parking lot, the access route from an underground floor to the main building (i.e., the means of entry into the main building) determines the possibility of vertical enlargement for elevators, the size of the parking lot, the construction period, and construction expenses, etc. When enlarging an underground parking lot of an apartment complex, the access between the main building and the parking lot, as well as the inhabitants' requirements for entering the main building, are generally determined based on the designer's experience, rather than on the exact estimation of the peculiarity of the complex. In order to resolve such a problem, when enlarging an underground parking lot, a systematic and rational method is needed for selecting the means of entry into the main building. In this study, a selection model is derived for the method of selecting an access route into the main building when constructing an underground parking lot, in order to provide a reasonable decision-making process. A research method was investigated for determining the access route into the main building when enlarging a parking lot. On the basis of research carried out through in-depth interviews with experts, the characteristics for each means of entry into the main building were analyzed and the factors affecting the selection of the access route were deduced. The affecting factors selected were construction efficiency, convenience efficiency and economic efficiency. Weight values were then estimated for the selected affecting factors by applying the AHP method. Results showed that convenience efficiency, which gained the highest value, is the most important factor in selecting the means of entry into the main building. The most suitable means of entry into the main building was also suggested after estimating the applicability of the site by selecting complexes with remodeling possibility. This study will be applied as a reference for selecting the means of entry into the main building when constructing an underground parking lot particularly for older apartment complexes.

The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence commuting patterns of Seoul residents after the construction of new towns. To find the determinants of commuting time for residents with jobs in Seoul, a multiple regression analysis is performed using household survey data. Overall, the findings present a plausible picture of the spatial configuration in Seoul, where younger residents with growing families move out to the suburbs to become owners of apartment homes, and drive or use mass transportation to get to work. As they get older and wealthier, other things being equal, they gravitate towards the city centre in order to reduce the time wasted on commuting. While their occupations appear to play little role, it seems that the entrapment hypothesis on female workers is supported as well. In addition, excess commuting is still prevalent due to jobs-housing mismatch in Seoul, although it is less severe than in the past. Based on these results, planners should devise better strategies to solve the inefficient commuting problem.
Rapid social change affects residential environments and this in turn creates new stimuli to which people have to adapt. These stimuli have been seen to increase stress levels. Therefore, dwellers in these environments try to reduce stress through various methods. The purpose of this paper is to: 1) identify the general trends of coping styles about residential environmental stress, 2) analyze the differences in socio-demographic characteristics and how the physical characteristics of buildings affect stress, find out how personal backgrounds affect stress levels and the ability to get rid of environmental-related stress. The subjects in this study consisted of people living in multi-family housing in Gwangju. The city is divided into 5 districts and used quota sampling. 324 housewives were surveyed from the households by self-administered questionnaires. The survey was conducted in December, 2006, after the questionnaire was revised based on the results of preliminary survey. After all the questionnaires were collected, the data was coded and analyzed using the SPSS 12.0 program. This study confirmed that the manner in which those in multi-family housing coped with stress. Especially, we need a policy which seriously considers residents who are of low social-economic standing. As well as being exposed to residential environmental stress, they also have no means to deal with it. The age of a building had a strong impact on coping styles about residential environmental stress. We have to make special studies about the adaptive reuse of buildings for the reduction of residential environmental stress and to greatly improve coping styles. In conclusion, it emphasized the importance of education, information, and economic aid. Reasonable housing management would surely lead to a rise in residential satisfaction and the promotion of residential welfare.
