Point Inject Technique을 이용한 치과 국소마취의 통증 조절 및 진료 효율의 극대화 (Pain control using the Point-Inject Technique in dental local anesthesia)

  • Many approaches to local anesthesia have been studied in dentistry. In this study, we introduce a new local anesthetic method, "Point-Inject Technique (PIT)", and compare it with traditional injection techniques. The PIT method utilizes both the vasoconstrictive and antinociceptive properties of local anesthetics as well as the application of controlled pressure during injection, reducing the time to complete anesthesia. Fifty patients were selected as the experimental group who were anesthetized using PIT, and the other 50 patients were selected as the control group using the direct injection method with a carpool syringe. The PIT group received 0.25 cartridges of 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine. The control group received 1.5~2 cartridges of 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine. Both groups were asked to mark the intensity of the pain caused by anesthesia using the Numeric Pain Rating Scale. The average time to recover from anesthesia was 40 minutes in the experimental group and 90 minutes in the control group. Additionally, 96% of the experimental group reported feeling no pain, while 78% of the control group reported having some form of pain during injection. The PIT method reduced both the reported pain scores of patients as well as time to recover from local anesthesia than the widely-used syringe injection method.

THE ZERO-POINT OF THE ZODIAC OF THE HINDU ASTRONOMERS IN ANCIENT INDIA

  • In modern Astronomy the vernal equinoctial (VE) point is taken as the starting point for measuring celestial longitudes. Due to the precession of equinoxes, the above point is receding back along the ecliptic. As a result, the longitudes of fixed stars are increasing every year. In ancient India, the Hindu astronomers did not favour the idea of fixed stars changing their longitudes. In order to stabilize the zodiac, they had taken as the origin a point which is fixed on the ecliptic and as such is quite different from the VE point. This initial point being a fixed one, the longitude of stars measured from this origin remain invariable for all time. There was an epoch in the past when this initial point coincided with the VE point and thus the epoch may be called the zero-year. There is controversy over the determination of the zero-year. The reasons for the choice for the fixed zodiacal system by the Hindu astronomers as well as the epoch of zero-year have been found out on the basis of information available in various astronomical treatises of ancient India written in Sanskrit.

  • When cells are stimulated by growth factors, they make a critical choice in early G1 phase: proceed forward to S phase, remain in G1, or revert to G0 phase. Once the critical decision is made, cells execute a fixed program independently of extracellular signals. The specific stage at which the critical decision is made is called the restriction point or R-point. The existence of the R-point raises a major question: what is the nature of the molecular machinery that decides whether or not a cell in G1 will continue to advance through the cell cycle or exit from the cell cycle? The R-point program is perturbed in nearly all cancer cells. Therefore, exploring the nature of the R-point decision-making machinery will provide insight into how cells consult extracellular signals and intracellular status to make an appropriate R-point decision, as well into the development of cancers. Recent studies have shown that expression of a number of immediate early genes is associated with the R-point decision, and that the decision-making program constitutes an oncogene surveillance mechanism. In this review, we briefly summarize recent findings regarding the mechanisms underlying the context-dependent R-point decision.

Vibration analysis of a multi-span beam subjected to a moving point force using spectral element method

  • In this study, we propose a frequency domain spectral element method (SEM) for the vibration analysis of a multi-span beam subjected to a moving point force. This study is an extension of the authors' previous study for a single-span beam subjected to a moving point force, where the two-element model-based SEM was applied. In this study, each span of a multi-span beam is represented by the Timoshenko beam model and the moving point force is transformed into the frequency domain as a series of each stationary point force distributed on the multi-span beam. The span at which a stationary point force is located is represented by two-element model, but all other spans are represented by one-element models. The vibration responses to a moving point force are obtained by superposing all individual vibration responses generated by each stationary point force. The high accuracy and computational efficiency of the proposed SEM are verified by comparing the solutions by SEM with exact analytical solutions by the integral transform method (ITM) as well as the solutions by the finite element method (FEM).

웰다잉(well dying) 문화 형성을 위한 불교의 죽음관 연구 (The study on the view of death in the Buddhism for well dying's culture formation)

  • 웰빙'(well being)과 함께 최근 '웰다잉'(well dying)에 대한 사회적 관심이 '안락사'(安樂死) 문제를 계기로 촉발되어 인간 죽음의 존엄성에 대한 중요한 담론으로 대두되고 있다. '웰다잉'(well dying)은 그 어의대로 '좋은 죽음'을 의미하며, 이런 의미적 맥락의 연장선상에서 통상적으로 '준비된 죽음', '품위 있는 죽음', '아름다운 죽음'을 지칭한다. 본고에서 논자는 '죽음'을 교학의 출발점으로, 그리고 '죽음의 극복'을 교학의 종착점으로 삼고 있는 불교의 죽음관이 웰다잉에 대한 담론에 어떠한 기여를 할 수 있는지 면밀히 고찰하였다. 불교의 죽음에 대한 태도와 해석, 그리고 그 극복의 과정은 웰다잉에 대한 보다 풍부한 담론을 형성하는 단초가 되며, 특히 죽음의 극복을 육체적 생리적 영생으로서가 아닌 정신적 심리적 현상으로 해석하고 이러한 정신적 심리적 변화를 통한 사물의 진실상(眞實相)에 대한 깨달음[정각(正覺)]을 통해서 죽음을 극복하는 불교의 견해는 죽음불안의 극복 및 죽음교육에 많은 기여를 할 수 있다.

  • 본 논문에서는 대전형 액션 게임을 위한 지능 캐릭터 구현에 있어서 기존 연구보다 실제적인 구현을 위하여 에너지 점수를 적용한 지능 캐릭터를 제안한다. 제안한 지능 캐릭터는 기존연구에서 사용한 상대 캐릭터의 현재 행동, 행동의 단계, 유효거리, 과거 행동 뿐 만 아니라 자신의 에너지 양을 고려하여 행동을 결정하게 된다. 에너지는 현재 온라인 게임 등에서 많이 사용하는 것으로 HP (Health Point)와 MP(Mana Point) 두 가지를 사용하였다. 에너지 점수를 적용한 지능캐릭터가 학습하는지 그리고 에너지점수를 적용했을 때 어떻게 행동하는지를 알아보기 위한 여러 가지 실험을 하였다. 실험 결과 에너지가 양이 많은 경우에는 상대방에게 피해를 크게 줄 수 있는 행동으로 대응하고 그렇지 않은 경우에는 에너지를 재충전하기 위한 행동들을 하는 것을 관찰하였다. 이런 결과로 볼 때 본 논문에서 제안한 에너지를 적용한 지능캐릭터가 잘 동작하며 에너지를 고려하여 효과적인 반응을 보임을 알 수 있다.

  • We establish coincidence point theorem for g-nondecreasing mappings satisfying generalized nonlinear contraction on partially ordered metric spaces. We also obtain the coupled coincidence point theorem for generalized compatible pair of mappings F, G : X2 → X by using obtained coincidence point results. Furthermore, an example is also given to demonstrate the degree of validity of our hypothesis. Our results generalize, modify, improve and sharpen several well-known results.

금속관형 코로나 방전극을 적용한 효과적인 이온풍 발생 (Effective Ionic Wind Generation Utilizing a Cylindrical Corona Discharge Electrode)

  • A point-mesh type corona system has been well used as a ionic wind blower. However this type corona system suffers from its lower ionic wind generation, because of its lower on-set and breakdown voltages of its very sharp needle point corona electrode. This means that the point corona electrode must act both as an effective ion-generator and a very higher electric field producer in the discharge airgap in order to generate higher ionic wind velocity. In this paper, a cylinder-mesh type discharge system as a ionic wind generator is proposed and investigated. The cylindrical corona electrode can produce many ions from its sharpened edge, and the corona on-set and breakdown voltages are very higher than those of the needle point corona electrode. As a result, this type cylindrical corona electrode might generate a higher ionic wind than the needle point corona electrode.

A FIFTH ORDER NUMERICAL METHOD FOR SINGULAR PERTURBATION PROBLEMS

  • In this paper, a fifth order numerical method is presented for solving singularly perturbed two point boundary value problems with a boundary layer at one end point. The two point boundary value problem is transformed into general first order ordinary differential equation system. A discrete approximation of a fifth order compact difference scheme is presented for the first order system. An asymptotically equivalent first order equation of the original singularly perturbed two point boundary value problem is obtained from the theory of singular perturbations. It is used in the fifth order compact difference scheme to get a two term recurrence relation and is solved. Several linear and non-linear singular perturbation problems have been solved and the numerical results are presented to support the theory. It is observed that the present method approximates the exact solution very well.
