  • Exposure to heat stress (HS) has negative effects on pig production and health. Plasma concentrations of amino acids (AAs) can be used as indicators of HS. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the effect of acute HS on feed intake, water drink, and plasma AAs in pigs. A total of 6 growing pigs (n = 6, 3 boars and 3 gilts) were raised in thermal neutral (TN; 25℃) conditions for the 5-d adaptation period as a control. After the adaptation, pigs were exposed to HS at 33℃ (HS33) for 24 h. All the pigs were fed the same diet formulated to meet or exceed predicted requirements during the whole experimental period. Blood samples were collected after the adaptation and heat treatment to verify the AAs. Measurements were the average daily feed intake (ADFI), average daily water intake (ADWI), water loss, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, nitrate, total nitric oxide, and AAs in the plasma samples. Data were analyzed using the PROC GLM of SAS. HS33 had a lower ADFI (p < 0.05) and a tendency for an increased ADWI and water loss compared to TN. The level of TNF-α was significantly decreased (p < 0.05) in HS33. HS33 had a lower concentration of histidine and sarcosine compared to TN; however, there were no differences in the levels of nitrates and total nitric oxide. In conclusion, the results of this study show the differential effect of HS on the plasma concentration of AAs. We expect that the changed AAs could be potential indicators of HS.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop evaluation indexes for improving the quality of long-term care institutions (facility salary) evaluation in the sense that the applicability and effectiveness of previous studies related to the development of evaluation indexes for long-term care facilities for elderly are insufficient. There was this. To this end, an analytical review of the 2018 long-term care institution (accommodation benefit) evaluation index, an analysis of Japan's elderly long-term care home evaluation index, and the elderly long-term care facility workers in Korea and the special care home for the elderly in Japan FGI on evaluation indicators and evaluation system was conducted. Based on the results of the research, evaluation indicators were developed in terms of supporting users to receive high quality services. The characteristics of the elderly, that is, the characteristics of elderly diseases that are difficult to maintain and improve, the direction and transparency of institutional operation, and the need for terminal care were reflected. Forty-three evaluation indicators were presented, covering institutional operations, environment and safety, beneficiary rights protection, payroll process, and payroll results. In addition, we proposed a four-step multi-level evaluation system that can improve the efficiency of the evaluation process by improving the redundant and unnecessary evaluation process.

  • Developed countries have developed indicators of quality of life and are using them as indicators of policy decisions, and Korea is also developing and operating indicators of people's quality of life. One of them is a lifestyle-oriented SOC, a policy that aims to improve the quality of life of the people by improving living infrastructure. This study aims to focus on subjective happiness among people's quality of life. The elderly are a relatively marginalized class in the national policy, and this study aims to analyze the effects of the elderly's residential environment on quality of life, housing satisfaction, and happiness. The purpose of this study is to provide useful implications for urban planning and related policy making by examining the structural relationship of whether the individual-environmental fit perceived by the elderly affects housing satisfaction and subjective happiness, and by analyzing the mediating effect between housing satisfaction and subjective happiness. As a result of the study, it was found that convenience, comfort, and public welfare of personal-environment suitability affect housing satisfaction and subjective happiness, and housing satisfaction affects subjective happiness. Also, it was analyzed that housing satisfaction had a mediating effect in the relationship between comfort, public welfare, and subjective feeling of happiness.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the nature of the patient service quality of health center, and based on that, to examine the relationship of health center visitor's perceived quality and overall satisfaction. Data were collected on the basis of 'the 3rd Regional Health Care Planning' operated by Rural Health Care Service Technology Aid Task-force Team(RHCSTAT), Ministry of Health and Welfare. Basically, the Manual of 3rd Regional Health Care Planning is composed of structure, process, and outcome measurement indicators. Of these indicators, 21 patient satisfaction questions as outcome indicators are used in this study. The samples are 3,530 patients who visited 80 health centers all of the nation. First, the reliability and validity of patient service quality items was evaluated. Second, the descriptive statistics of health service quality are calculated. Third, through the T-test and ANOVA, the differences of patient satisfaction by responder's general characteristics are compared. In final, to explore the relationship of service quality and overall satisfaction, multiple regression analysis was used. This study shows firstly, the dimension of patient service quality was categorized into 3 dimensions, that is, facilities and environment, staff kindness, and access convenience. Secondly, the reliability and validity of patient service quality items was satisfied. Thirdly, the mean score of staff kindness factors are high in contrast to the facilities and environment. And in regard to the overall satisfaction, the mean score is more higher in Daegu region, County type health center, male group, and upper 65 age group than comparison groups. Lastly, as a result of multiple regression analysis, the effect of patient's perceived service quality, especially, appropriateness of billing time(Beta=0.190) and of reservation time(Beta=0.132) are statistically significant(P<0.01). In conclusion, to satisfy the health need of community people and improve the service quality of the health center, the efforts for the access convenience might be needed. Additionally, the enlargement on health center space and supply of new medical equipment is urgent for the patient satisfaction.

  • Since 2006, the Computerized Restricted Antibiotic Control Program (CRACP) has been incorporated to facilitate a more efficient approval process of vancomycin use at the Chonbuk National University Hospital. The purposes of the study were to evaluate proper use of vancomycin and to examine if there is any improvement when administering the CRACP. The use of vancomycin was retrospectively reviewed by a medical record review based on the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists (ASHP) criteria (i.e., indication, use of critical process indicators and use of outcome measurements) and compared before (Group I) and after the CRACP (Group II). Two hundred fifty six patient records were evaluated (138 in Group I and 118 in Group II). There was a statistically significant improvement in the report of justification for vancomycin use after CRACP (42.0% vs. 62.7%, p=0.001). Out of eight critical process indicators, two indicators (appropriate cultures prior to medication [68.8% vs. 85.6%, p=0.002] and serum vancomycin level measurement [0% vs. 7.6%, p=0.001]) were significantly improved after CRACP. The total incidence of adverse effects was decreased from 14.5% to 6.8%. In addition, there was a statistically significant difference in WBC count reduction within normal range (52.8% vs. 73.1%, p=0.024). The CRACP appears to be a promising approach to improve use of vacomycin in a hospital setting. However, further evaluation for the long-term period should be performed to confirm the performance of the program.

  • Since the early nineties, the European welfare states have been undergoing a paradigm shift from 'poverty' to 'social exclusion' in that the disadvantaged have increased in many areas, despite continuing increases in general living standards due to the steady economic development in Europe. In relation to this, Silver(1994) traces the evolution of the term 'exclusion' over time, and distinguishes three paradigms within which social exclusion is embedded (solidarity, specialisation and monopoly). In this regards, this paper purports to examine if differences of social exclusion indicators amongst three paradigm countries (notably, France, UK and Sweden) are statistically significant. For this purpose it takes the steps of 'theoretical conceptualisation'$\rightarrow$'classification of nations'$\rightarrow$'indexation for measurement', each of which constitutes an independent chapter. It duly argues that social exclusion indicators of three countries are hierarchically different in line with the Silver's three paradigms of social exclusion.

  • Broiler chickens are exposed to various stresses throughout their lives, and those stresses affect their well-being and meat quality. Therefore, the farm breeding system is critical for reducing stress in broilers and improving animal welfare. This study was conducted to evaluate the difference between general farms and animal welfare farms and to evaluate feather corticosterone as an index for measuring stress. Samples of 28-day-old broilers (blood, feathers, and muscle) were collected from slaughter-houses, and corticosterone, along with HSP70, glycogen, and L-lactate, were extracted from feathers and serum as indicators of broiler stress levels and energy metabolism. The analysis results confirmed a significantly (p<0.01) higher feather cortisone level in the general farm group than in the welfare farm group, but no significance was detected for serum corticosterone. HSP70 levels did not differ in muscles and feathers. Glycogen levels were significantly higher in the general farm group than in the welfare farm group (p<0.01), but L-lactate levels showed no difference. Our results suggest that feather corticosterone can be used as an indicator to evaluate stress differences between general farms and animal welfare farms and that long-term stress can be assessed.
