  • The increasing interest in the hot cracking behavior of the high alloy metal weldment is placing stringent demands on the manufacturing techniques and performance requirements, and the manufacture employs the high quality and efficiency high alloy metal welding technology. This paper covers recent research trends of the hot cracking behavior of the high alloy metal weldment including the SCI-E analysis of published papers, research subjects and research institute analysis.

  • In FE analysis for residual stress of a casting, contact force between mould and casting material and gravity force must be considered for exact simulation. Preheating of a repair weldment had a little effects on the reduction of residual stress. However, preheating with hammer peening had a great deal of effects on the reduction of residual stress. A method for estimation of fatigue life for a repair weldment has been established.

  • The purpose of this study is to establish the predictive equation of welding distortion at the thick AA5083 alloy weldment. In order to do it, the extensive FE analysis was peformed to identify the principal factor controlling welding distortion. Based on the results, the predictive equations of transverse shrinkage and angular distortion at the thick AA5083 alloy weldment were formulated as the function of heat intensity (Q), in-plane(Di) and bending(Db) rigidity.

  • In this study, the degree of creep damages on the weldment accelerated creep degradation was nondestructively evaluated by replica method. The frequency of creep cavities occurrence has been observed highly at the intercritical HAZ. The life fraction of weldment damaged by creep has shown from 0.25(damage grade: 2) to 0.75(damage grade: 4) when it reptured. The degree of creep damages is considered to be evaluated by the metallographic replica method which is one of nondestructive evaluation methods.

  • The research trend in the corrosion behaviour of stainless steel weldment has been reviewed. The welding technology plays an important role in the fabrication of structure such as chemical plant, power plant, because welding can influence various factors in the performance of plant and equipment. This has led to an increasing attention towards the corrosion behaviour of weldment which has been one of the major issues for both welding and corrosion research engineers. The aim of this paper is to give a short survey of the recent technical trends of welding and corrosion including the electrochemical corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and corrosion fatigue in connection with the welding materials, welding process, and welding fabrication. This study covers the corrosion behaviour of stainless steel weldment collected from the COMPENDEX DB analysis of published papers, research subject and research institutes.

Distortion Control of the Curved Panel Using Elastic Bending Method

  • Finite element analysis (FEA) and experimental studies on an elastic bending method have been performed in order to control the angular distortion at the fillet weldment for curved panel. Process parameters for the elastic bending method such as clamping span and release time were analyzed with reference to welding condition and geometric effect of the curved panel, which can minimize or prevent the angular distortion by producing a proper skin stress to the fillet weldment. The amounts of the angular distortion decrease almost in a linear manner with an increase in the skin stress. The skin stress required for non-angular distortion at the fillet weldment is strongly dependent on the plate thickness, not the heat intensity applied. The clamping span for obtaining uniform skin stress was defined as functions of the plate thickness and length of the free edge. Clamp should be removed after the fillet weldment is cooled down to room temperature for non-angular distortion. Effectiveness of the elastic bending method established was verified by its application to an actual curved panel.

용접부 미세조직의 재질열화 평가를 위한 Advanced Small Punch 시험에 관한 연구 (A Study on Advanced Small Punch Test for Evaluation of Material Degradation in Weldment Microstructures)

  • This research was aimed to evaluate the material degradation with various microstructures of X20CrMoV121 steel weldment by Advanced Small Punch(ASP) test. Due to the regional limitation on constitutive structures, the minimized loading ball(${\varphi}1.5mm$) and bore diameter of lower die(${\varphi}3mm$) were designed for the ASP test. The micro-hardness test was also performed to assess the mechanical properties with artificial aging heat treatment. Material degradation was estimated by ductile-brittle transition temperature(DBTT). The results obtained from the ASP test were compared with those from conventional small punch(CSP) test and CVN impact test for several weldment microstructures. It was found that the ASP test clearly showed the microstructural dependance on the material degradation in the weldment.

  • In this paper, we studied low cycle fatigue behavior of laser welded sheet metal that used automobile body panel. Specimens were manufactured as weld condition and sheet metal using automobile manufacturing company at present. For to know mechanical properties, micro Vicker's hardness test was performed of specimens. But, we can't confirm mechanical properties of weld bead and heat affected zone because laser weld makes very narrow weld bead and heat affected zone than other welding method. Therefore, we performed low cycle fatigue test with similar weldment, dissimilar weldment, similar thickness and dissimilar weldment, and dissimilar thickness and dissimilar weldment for fatigue properties of thickness and welding direction. As well, we analysis stress distribution of base metal, weld bead, and heat affected zone according to strain load using finite element method.

Ni기 초합금 용접부의 열처리에 따른 미세조직 변화와 미세경도 (Microstructural Evolutions and Microhardness of the Heat Treated Ni-base Superalloy Weldment)

  • This study was performed to determine the repair weldability of the damaged Ni type superalloy used for gas turbine blade. The experimental works included the evaluation of the microstructures of the damaged blade, selection of the repair welding procedure, characterization of repair weldment and finding the heat treatment procedures for repaired weldment. The morphology of the microstructure for the base metal was composed of austenite matrix with cubical ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ phase, MC type coarse precipitates located within grain and fine $M_{23}C_6$ type precipitates decorated at grain boundaries. The repair welding process using 90 amp current exhibited the best weld properties showing no weld microcracks. The solution and aging heat treatments of the repaired weldment could recover the original service properties of the damaged blade.

  • The double-walled steel vessel with powder insulation in the space between the walls is used to minimize heat transfer by radiation and conduction in cryogenic storage tank. The vacuum required the insulation is much less extreme than with high-vacuum or multilayer insulations. The solid supports are used to bear the weight of the inner container. Thermal and structural analysis of the tank have been carried out to study the effect of vacuum and weldment geometry of the internal supports. Heat flux in wall is increased with increasing of thermal conductivity of perlite. Heat flux and stress of support is not affected by weldment geometry.
