  • Aluminum and aluminum alloys have high rate of lightness, recycling property and excellent specific strength. Fields using them have been widening because they ould satisfy both energy reduction and high efficiency in manufactures production. But they have many problems on welding due to high thermal conductivity and reflectivity, so the study to solve these problems ate proceeding actively around the world. This study was purposed to improve weldability and spread application range for aluminium alloys by using the unique property of aluminium which absorb high energy around $800{\mu}m$ wavelength and the higher temperature, the mote absorbtion of laser beam on preheating by multi-wavelength laser beam(pulsed Nd:YAG laser + diode laser with $808{\mu}m$ wavelength). The favorable mechanical properties were acquired by the test results of strength, hardness and leak of weld metal which had reduced its defect like crack and so on.

  • This study proposes the analysis and evaluation method of time series ultrasonic signal using the attractor analysis. Features extracted from time series signal analyze quantitatively characteristics of welding defects. For this purpose, analysis objective in this study is fractal dimension and attractor Quadrant feature. Trajectory changes in the attractor indicated that even the same type of defects carried substantial difference in fractal characteristics resulting from distance shifts such as parts of head and flange. Such differences in characteristics of weld defects enables the evaluation of unique features of defects in the weld zone. In quantitative fractal feature extraction, feature values of 3.848 in the case of part of head(crack) and 4.102 in the case of part of web(side hale) and 3.711 in the case of part of flange(crack) were proposed on the basis of fractal dimensions. Proposed attractor feature extraction in this study can enhance the precision rate of ultrasonic evalaution for defect signals of rail weld zone such as side hole and crack.

  • The characteristics of high heat input (342kJ/cm) EG (Electro Gas Arc) welded joint of EH36-TM steel has been investigated. The weld metal microstructure consisted of fine acicular ferrite (AF), a little volume of polygonal ferrite (PF) and grain boundary ferrite (GBF). Charpy impact test results of the weld metal and heat affected zone (HAZ) met the requirement of classification rule (Min. 34J at $-20^{\circ}C$). In order to evaluate the relationship between the impact toughness property and the grain size of HAZ, the austenite grain size of HAZ was measured. The prior austenite grain size in Fusion line (F.L+0.1 mm) was about $350{\mu}m$. The grain size in F.L+1.5 mm was measured to be less than $30{\mu}m$ and this region was identified as being included in FGHAZ(Fine Grain HAZ). It is seen that as the austenite grain size decreases, the size of GBF, FSP (Ferrite Side Plate) become smaller and the impact toughness of HAZ increases. Therefore, the CGHAZ was considered to be area up to 1.3mm away from the fusion line. Results of TEM replica analysis for a welded joint implied that very small size ($0.8\sim1.2{\mu}m$) oxygen inclusions played a role of forming fine acicular ferrite in the weld metal. A large amount of (Ti, Mn, Al)xOy oxygen inclusions dispersed, and oxides density was measured to be 4,600-5,300 (ea/mm2). During the welding thermal cycle, the area near a fusion line was reheated to temperature exceeding $1400^{\circ}C$. However, the nitrides and carbides were not completely dissolved near the fusion line because of rapid heating and cooling rate. Instead, they might grow during the cooling process. TiC precipitates of about 50 ~ 100nm size dispersed near the fusion line.

  • The steel-plate concrete composite beam is composed of a steel plate, concrete and a shear connector to combine the two inhomogeneous materials. In general, the steel plate is assembled by welding an existing composite beam. In this study, a new steel-plate concrete composite (SPCC) beam was developed to reduce the size of the shear connector and improve its workability. The SPCC beam was composed of folded steel plates and concrete, without any shear connector. The folded steel plate was assembled with high strength bolts instead of welding. To improve the workability in field construction, a hat-shaped cap was attached in the junction with the slab. Monotonic two-point load testing was conducted under displacement control mode. The flexural strength of the SPCC beam specimen was calculated to be 76% of that of the complete composite beam by using the plastic stress distribution method and strain compatibility method. The cap acted as the stud and accessory. The synthesis rate could be increased by controlling the gap of the cap, and the bending performance could be evaluated by using the strain fitting method considering the synthesis rate of the SPCC beam.

  • An experimental study on performance characteristics of an evaporative heat exchanger based on tests for various operating conditions was presented. The heat exchanger maximizes the heat transfer rate per unit volume by applying mini-channels for both the air and coolant flow paths, and minimizes the amount of the coolant by using its latent heat of evaporation. The heat exchanger was manufactured by etching the flow paths, brazing the heat exchange plates, and welding the in/out ports of the media. The basic performance test has confirmed that the heat exchanger met its design requirements, and the results of the map test were analyzed to produce the performance characteristics quantitatively depending on the air inlet temperature, the air flow rate, and the coolant flow rate.

  • Failure phenomena in uni-axial tension test were experimentally and numerically investigated for AA6111-T4, AA5083-H18 and DP-Steel, which were friction-stir welded with the same and different thicknesses. Forming limit diagram(FLD) was measured using hemispherical dome stretching tests for base materials and also predicted by Hill's bifurcation and M-K theories for welded areas. Finite element simulations well predicted hardening behaviors, failure locations as well as failure patterns for the uni-axial tension tests especially utilizing very fine meshes and FLD along with stress softening.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate further the mechanics of failure of magnets used for denture retention. Dyna magnets were retrived from denture that had failed after 34 months of clinical use. The magnets were observed and sectioned in order to analyse with high resolution scanning electron microscope. From this study, corrosion behaviors of used magnetic attachment were analysed. The results were as follows ; 1. In Nd-Fe-B based magnetic materials, the erosion-corrosion was started at ununiformed part of stainless steel cover. 2. Corrosion was initiated at weared stainless steel surface and then magnetic materials were spalled by corrosive solution. 3. Spatting was occurred in Nd-Fe-B magnet materials due to corrosion products and then corrosion rate was increased drastically. 4. Corrosion started from ununiformed stainless steel surface as well as welded zone. In conclusion, the failure of magnets may occur by either breakdown of the welding or breakdown of the encapsulating material. So, it is considered that the corrosion problem of dental magnetic materials could be solved to some extent with surface treatment of dental magnetic materials.

  • This study examined the work environment and wearing conditions of industrial protective clothing in shipbuilding workshops. It also investigated the relationship between the wearing sensation of industrial protective clothing and overall comfort, according to work process. In addition, the work posture according to work process was evaluated based on ergonomic factors. The wearing rate of industrial protective clothing was 73.3%, 66.7%, and 60.1% for workers engaged in welding, grinding, and painting, respectively. The harmful work environment factors, listed from most harmful to least harmful, were found to be high temperature pyrogens, noxious fumes, organic solvents, UV rays, and heavy dust. The aspect of wearing performance of industrial protective clothing that was most related to user dissatisfaction was poor sweat absorbency. In terms of the correlation between the overall comfort and the wearing sensation of industrial protective clothing, the satisfaction was low shown in orders of physiological comfort, sensual comfort, and movement comfort.

  • For the Tailor Welded Blank sheet used for automobile body panel, the characteristics of fatigue strength and crack propagation behavior were studied. The thickness of specimens was joined to be same (0.9mm+0.9mm) and different (0.9mm+2.0mm) .As a base test, mechanical properties around weld zone were examined . The results indicated that there were no significant decreases in mechanical properties , but hardness around weld bead was 2.3 times greater than base material . The fatigue strength was the highest when the loading direction was parallel to the welding direction, which was about 85% of tensile strength of base material. It was decreased by 8.5% when the thickness of specimens and base metal was different, and it was increased by 25% when pres-strain was applied. The crack propagation rate was noticeably decreased around weld line and rapidly increased as it passed through weld line. Reviewing the shape of the crack propagation , crack width around weld line was around the weld zone due to retardation of crack growth , but is became narrow passing weld line due to decreased toughness.

  • In this syudy, the researches classifying the artificial and natural flaws in welding parts are performed using the smart pattern recognition technology. For this purpose the smart signal pattern recognition package including the user defined function was developed and the total procedure including the digital signal processing, feature extraction , feature selection and classifier selection is treated by bulk. Specially it is composed with and discussed using the statistical classifier such as the linear disciminant function classifier, the empirical Bayesian classifier. Also, the smart pattern recognition technology is applied to classification problem of natural flaw(i.e multiple classification problem-crack,lack of penetration, lack of fusion, porosity, and slag inclusion, the planar and volumetric flaw classification problem). According to this results, if appropriately learned the neural network classifier is better than ststistical classifier in the classification problem of natural flaw. And it is possible to acquire the recognition rate of 80% above through it is different a little according to domain extracting the feature and the classifier.
