Mechanical and Electrochemical Characteristics in Welding with Robot on 6061-T6 Al Alloy for Al Ship (로봇으로 용접한 알루미늄 선박용 6061-T6 합금의 기계적, 전기화학적 특성)

  • The construction of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) boats is decreasing trend since the application of international regulations on the control of marine environmental pollution, which recommended the use of environmentally friendly materials. The aluminum alloy used with material for ship is a superior to FRP. It is environmental friendly, easy to recycle, and provides a high added value to fishing boats. However, the welding for Al alloy materials have many problems, such as deformation by welding heat and effect of the working environment. In this paper, it was carried out welding by robot with welding material of ER5183 and ER5556 on 6061-T6 Al alloy for ship. The mechanical and electrochemical characteristics evaluated for specimen welded by robot. The cathodic polarization trend for the base metal and welding metal showed the effects of concentration polarization due to oxygen reduction and activation polarization due to hydrogen generation. The hardnesses of welding zone and heat affected zone are lower than that of base metal. At the result of tensile test, the specimen welded with ER5183 presented excellent property compared with ER5556.

  • The object of this study is to investigate the effect of compounded welding through the AE (Acoustic Emission) characteristics for weld HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) on static tensile test. This study was carried out a SM 490A, high tension steel using the low hydrogen type E4316 of electronic shield metal arc welding, compound wire of $CO_2$ gas arc welding and tungsten electrode of TIG welding.

  • The gas metal arc welding(GMAW) is regarded as one of the best candidate for welding automation in industrial joining application. It is important to monitor the weld quality for the high performance of weld automation. The measured analog signal is frequency analyzed by digital signal process method. In order to observe the welding phenomena and control welding condition, arc light, voltage, and current are measured at the same time. They are analyzed and compared with arc sound. for these experiments, a power source of constant voltage characteristics was used in the pure metal transfer mode.

  • In recent automotive industry, vehicle weight can be reduced by one-step forming of tailored blanks welded with two or more sheets of metal blanks. Mash seam welding shows an overlap joint, a much wider welding area, and heat affected zone(HAZ) than a laser welding. This paper deals with the forming characteristics of mash seam welded tailored blanks. Mash seam welded blanks of same or different thickness combinations were prepared, and tensile, hardness, erichsen, and dome stretching tests were done.

  • With the development of advanced processing technology, laser processing systems, which require high-quality precision processing, have attracted considerable attention. Although laser equipment is expensive, it enables quick processing and less deformation of materials. This technology is often applied to secondary batteries, which has thus farinvolved the use of argon tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. However, the welding characteristics of argon TIG welding are not yet good, and a laser is used for welding to address this problem. In this study, lap-joint welding was conducted, and the desired welding characteristics were obtained when the laser power was 1800W and the laser beam travel speed was 1.8 m/min. Lap-joint welding was conducted on Ni-coated SS41. Two cases were compared. No pores were observed in the Ni-coated SS41 lap-joint welding part, and cracks appeared from the lap-joints. Moreover, the pole rod and tap were welded together in a T-joint form to improve the output of the secondary battery. T-joint laser welding showed better welding characteristics than TIG welding.

  • Welding characteristics of austienite 304 stainless and SM45C using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser n experimentally investigated Laser beam welding is increasingly being used in welding of structural steels. The laser welding process is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies owing to its high speed and deep penetration. The thermal cycles associated with laser welding are generally much Inter than those involved in conventional welding processes, leading to a rather small weld zone. Experiments are performed for 304 stainless steel plates changing several process parameter such as laser power, welding speed, shielding gas flow rate, presence of surface pollution, with fixed or variable gap and misalignment between the similar and dissimilar and plates, etc. The Nd:YAG laser welding process is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies owing to its high speed and penetration. This paper describes the weld ability of SM45C carbon steel for machine structural use by Nd:YAG laser. The follow conclusions can be drawn that laser power and welding speed have a pronounced effect on size and shape of the fusion zone. Increase in welding speed resulted in an increase in weld depth/aspect ratio and hence a decrease in the fusion zone size. The penetration depth increased with the increase in laser power.

  • The object of this study is to investigate the effect of compounded welding through the AE(Acoustic Emission) characteristics for weld HAZ(Heat Affected Zone) under the static tensile test. This study was carried out an SWS 490A, high tension steel for electric shield metal arc welding(SMAW), $CO_2$ gas arc welding and TIG welding. Data displays are based on the measured parameters of the AE signals, along with environmental variables such as time and load. The accumulated AE event curve of HAZ definitely have the point of inflection subject to tensile test. The results of the tensile test of HAZ come out electric shield arc welding >$CO_2$ gas arc welding>TIG welding in case of single welding, but generally the tensile test of HAZ come out electric shield arc welding> TIG welding > $CO_2$ gas arc welding. These history plots give us useful and powerful information to analyze the results of material evaluation testing.

Welding Characteristics on Heat input Changing of Laser Dissimilar Metals Welding (레이저 이종용접에서의 입열량 변화에 대한 용접특성)

  • Laser welding of dissimilar metals has been widely used to improve a wear resistance and a corrosion resistance of the industrial parts. The objective of this research works is to investigate the influence of the process parameters, such as the welding for SM45C and STS304 with CW Nd:YAG lasers. The bead-on-plate welding tests are carried out for several combinations of the experimental conditions. In order to quantitatively examine the characteristics of the dissimilar welding, the welding quality of the cut section, stain-stress behavior and the hardness of the welded part are investigated. From the results of the investigation, it has been shown that the optimal welding condition without defects in the vicinity of the welded area and with a good welding qualify is 1600W of the laser power, 0.85m/min of welding speed and $4{\ell}/min$ of pressure for shielding gas.

  • This paper reviews corrosion characteristics of welded in the area of 409 Stainless Steel, Aluminium and Carbon steel. The effects of alloying elements and welding conditions on the intergranular-corrosion in weldment of the 409 stainless steels(SS) were investigated. And then this was to investigate factors affecting the composition and concentrations of fumes generated from various types of welding processes. It is also suggested that the direct relationship between the corrosion characteristics and welding type be clarified by experimental and analytical results.
