  • This paper deals with sensing ability of smart sensor that has a sensing ability to distinguish materials according to surface types of smart sensor. We have developed a new signal processing method that can distinguish among different materials. The smart sensor was developed for recognition of materials. We made two types of smart sensors in our experiment. Then, we estimated the ability to recognize objects according to smart sensor type. We estimated the sensing ability of smart sensor with the $R_{SAI}$ method. Experiments and analysis were executed to estimate the ability to recognize objects according to surface types of smart sensor. Sensing ability of smart sensors was evaluated relatively through a new $R_{SAI}$ method. Applications of smart sensors are for finding abnormal conditions of objects (auto-manufacturing), feeling of objects (medical product), robotics, safety diagnosis of structure, etc.etc.

  • The solids and the fluids in porous media have a relative velocity to each other. Due to physically and chemically different material properties and their relative velocity, the behavior of saturated porous media is extremely complicated. Thus, in order to describe and clarify the deformation behavior of saturated porous media, constitutive models for deformation of porous media coupling several effects such as flow of the fluids or thermodynanical change need to be developed in frame of Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) description. The aim of ALE formulations is to maximize the advantages of Lagrangian and Eulerian elements, and to minimize the disadvantages. Therefore, this method is appropriate for the analysis of porous media that are considered for the behavior of the solids and the fluids. In this work, governing equations of porous media based on ALE description are obtained from governing equations in frame of updated Lagrangian description. Then, weak forms of these equations are derived using arbitrary weighting functions.

  • The tilt rotor aircraft has the flight characteristics which takes off vertically like a helicopter and flies forward like an airplane. Especially, the transition process from a helicopter to an airplane mode requires not only the mixing of control inputs but also the stability and controllability augmentation system(SCAS) in order to keep the safe flight because there are compound flight dynamic characteristics of a helicopter and an airplane including non-linearity, uncertainty. This paper describes the design of SCAS in a lateral motion for the tilt rotor aircraft based on the $H_{\infty}$ control method, which was performed from mathematical model with weighting matrix based on the relationship between the $H_{\infty}$ norm and the sensitivity function. Through simulation analysis for the controller designed on the $H_{\infty}$ control theory, it was shown that this method may be applied to the control design of the tilt rotor aircraft.

  • The KNR(Korean National Railroad) has a speed limit regulation(130km/h) for the train passing the turnout to guarantee a safety. Since that speed is set as below the maximum commercial speed(140km/h), it has been regarded as a major factor to obstacle the total efficiency. The crossing rail part of the turnout system is formed into a antisymmetric, furthermore, there are several discontinuous part. Thus, measuring the strain signals of this part is impossible actually and it must be in the most difficult work related the turnout research. In this research, the program that can anticipate the signals at the various conditions with considering its own shape was developed and the preciousness of its results had been examined by comparing analyzed and measured ones at the other parts. The simulation was performed with varying the factors such as train speed and contact depth. As a results, it was proved that the regulation was not useless and very important guide at least up to now.

TRAFFIC-FLOW-PREDICTION SYSTEMS BASED ON UPSTREAM TRAFFIC (교통량예측모형의 개발과 평가)

  • Network-based model were developed to predict short term future traffic volume based on current traffic, historical average, and upstream traffic. It is presumed that upstream traffic volume can be used to predict the downstream traffic in a specific time period. Three models were developed for traffic flow prediction; a combination of historical average and upstream traffic, a combination of current traffic and upstream traffic, and a combination of all three variables. The three models were evaluated using regression analysis. The third model is found to provide the best prediction for the analyzed data. In order to balance the variables appropriately according to the present traffic condition, a heuristic adaptive weighting system is devised based on the relationships between the beginning period of prediction and the previous periods. The developed models were applied to 15-minute freeway data obtained by regular induction loop detectors. The prediction models were shown to be capable of producing reliable and accurate forecasts under congested traffic condition. The prediction systems perform better in the 15-minute range than in the ranges of 30-to 45-minute. It is also found that the combined models usually produce more consistent forecasts than the historical average.

  • This paper describes the design of a robust H-infinity attitude controller for a quad-rotor. The linear model of a quad-rotor was estimated using PEM (Prediction Error Minimization) method with experimental input and output data. To design an attitude controller, an extended plant was constructed by adjusting several uncertainties and weighting functions. An H-infinity controller was obtained by applying H-infinity methodology to the extended plant. Through frequency-domain analysis, it was shown that the designed controller can overcome uncertainties up to 75% of the plant model. The performance and robustness of the controller were verified through time-domain simulation.

  • In this paper, a practical bushing model is proposed to improve the accuracy of the vehicle dynamic analysis. The results of the rubber bushing are used to develop an empirical bushing model with an artificial neural network. A back propagation algorithm is used to obtain the weighting factor of the neural network. Since the output for a dynamic system depends on the histories of inputs and outputs, Narendra algorithm of 'NARMAX' form is employed to consider these effects. A numerical example is carried out to verify the developed bushing model. Then, a full car dynamic model with artificial neural network bushings is simulated to show the feasibility of the proposed bushing model.

  • A new method that estimates the sensing ability of HH smart sensor is proposed. The new signal processing method have been developed that can distinguish among different materials relatively. Dynamic characteristics of HH smart sensor were evaluated relatively through a new $R_{SAI}$ method that uses the power spectrum density. Study on Performance Improvement of Korean Connected Digit Recognition using LDA (LDA를 이용한 한국어 연결숫자 인식기 성능향상에 관한 연구)

  • 본 논문에서는 class간의 변별력을 증가시키기 위한 유용한 방법인 LDA(Linear Discriminant Analysis)를 사용하여 한국어 숫자음간의 변별력을 높여 연결숫자 인식성능을 높이고자 하였다. 한국어 숫자음은 모두 단음절이며 또한 혼동가능성이 높은 숫자쌍이 존재하여 이것이 전체 인식률을 저하시킨다. LDA를 사용한 경우 숫자열 오인식률이 $8\%$ 감소하였다. 그리고, 음성특징 벡터의 차수를 감소시키고 LDA 사용전 보다 약간의 인식률 증가를 보였다. 그러나, 선형적인 방법으로 분리가 불가능한 class들의 분포가 존재할 때는 LDA를 사용하여도 변별력 향상은 기대하기 어렵다. 이와 같은 분포의 class사이의 변별력을 증가시키기 위해 between-scatter covariance matrix를 구할 때 class 사이에 혼동가능성 정도를 나타내는 weighting factor를 적용하였으며, 그 결과 숫자열 오인식률이 LDA 사용전보다 $9.7\%$ 감소하였다.
