This study aims to develop a potential evaluation method for urban spatial expansion using remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS). A multi-criteria evaluation method with several criteria and their weighting values was introduced to evaluate the score and quantification of the potential surface around the existing cities. The six criteria with one geographic factor, slope, and five accessibility factors, time distance from center of the city, national road, interchange of expressway, a big city, and station, were defined for the potential. RS techniques were applied for classification of the actual urban expansion maps between two periods, and GIS functions were used for score of accessibility criteria with a distance decay function from geographic, road and several point maps, which was developed in this study. The new methodology was applied to a test area, Suwon, between 1986 and 1996. In order to optimize the six weighting values, this study made new findings to search the optimal combination of the weighting values from new methodology, weighted scenario method for intensity order (WSM), combined with intensity order and AHP method, including a trial and error method for sensitivity analysis to make the intensity order. The optimal combination of the weighting values by the new method generated the optimal potential surface, considering spatial trend of urban expansion in the test area.
In the information retrieval system, document clustering technique is to provide user convenience and visual effects by rearranging documents according to the specific topics from the retrieved ones. In this paper, we clustered documents using K-Means algorithm and present the effect of index terms weighting scheme on the document clustering. To verify the experiment, we applied Latent Semantic Indexing approach to illustrate the clustering results and analyzed the clustering results in 2-dimensional space. Experimental results showed that in case of applying local weighting, global weighting and normalization factor, the density of clustering is higher than those of similar or same weighting schemes in 2-dimensional space. Especially, the logarithm of local and global weighting is noticeable.

This paper introduces a novel system-level framework that derives energy efficient electric vehicle (EV) driving speed profile to extend EV driving range without additional cost. This paper first implements an EV power train model considering forces acting on a driving vehicle and motor efficiency. Then, it derivate the minimum-energy driving speed profile for a given driving mission defined by the route. This framework first formulates an optimization problem and uses the dynamic programming algorithm with a weighting factor to derive a speed profile minimizing both of energy consumption and driving time. This paper introduces various weighting factor tracking methods to satisfy the driving time constraint. Simulation results show that runtime of the proposed scaling algorithm is 34% and 50% smaller than those of the binary search algorithm and greedy algorithm, respectively.
In its recent recommendation No. 60(1990), ICRP has newly introduced several terminology which had not existed in its prior recommendation No. 26(1977). Of these, a newly defined quantity 'Equivalent Dose' replacing the 'Dose Equivalent' of the ICRU concept has been recommended to be adopted in the radiation protection programme. However, since the committee still uses the 'Dose Equivalent' and 'Equivalent Dose' in its several publications, it is likely to provoke unnecessary confusions and misuses in applying these two quantities. In this paper were described the definition and difference between these two quantities to help in understanding of these two quantitites among the person involved in the radiation protection activities.
Purpose: The objective of this research is to investigate and analyze the relationship between physical residential conditions and occupants' responses in apartment buildings by POE(Post-Occupancy Evaluation). The analysis results from this research will help to identify the indoor residential problems and find design solutions for improving overall residential indoor residential environment. Method: The occupant survey was conducted at four different apartment complex area at Cheongju City, Chungbuk Province, Korea. Combination of unbalanced indoor environmental conditions in residential building had difference of occupants' responses according to occupants' characteristics, such as gender, age, and so on. The survey collected data regarding the occupants' EQ(Environmental Quality) priorities to determine the weight of each environmental-quality factor (lighting, acoustic, thermal and indoor air quality). A paired comparison method was used to determine the weight by comparing the relative importance of the two factors based on occupant's survey response. Result: The output from this research is useful to understand the residential environment, occupants' satisfaction, preference, and identifies the current residential problems and finds an architectural solution in apartment buildings.
In this study, the principle of water allocation is proposed based on efficiency, equity, sustainability. Also weighting factors are estimated with sectoral factors and regional factors. The former represents relative weights among water use and the latter represents physical characteristics of water demand places. The AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) is applied to estimate the sectoral factors, and compounded regional-characteristic factors and regional-scale factors, which reflects socioeconomic statistics for the regional factors. By applying these weighting factors, water allocation rules for dam is developed and applied to Andong dam which supplies water to parts of Busan Shi, Daegu Shi and Goryeong Gun in a water-deficit situation. As a result, it is estimated that Water allocation by priorities distributes the entire water shortage to the lowest rank of water sectors or regions, while water allocation by relative weighting factors disperse all the burdens of water shortage to all sectors and regions.

This paper presents a misfire monitoring method by using the weight factor. According to OBD II(On-Board Diagnostics) regulations of the CARB (California Air Resources Board), an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) should detect misfires which occur in the internal combustion engine. A misfire is 1311owe4 by post-oscillations for short duration. Sometimes, the amplitude of oscillations may be as high as misfire and can be falsely detected as another misfire. To prevent this, the software designers do not attempt to detect another misfire for this short duration, during which the post oscillations exist. Because of this, ECU does not detect all the misfires and hence, the unstable state of automobile cannot be detected. If this happens for a long time, automobile may get damaged. To solve these problems, this paper suggests a new algorithm to detect misfire by using weighting factor Weighting factor is a concept to distinguish the misfire with the post oscillation and to improve the detection rate. This value of weighting factor is used for counting the misfire. This paper also shows the result of experiment done on a automobile using this software. The software is implemented using ASCET-SD which is preferred in the design of engine control. This paper's result show the possibility of improving the misfire detection by implementing this algorithm.
Calibration curves are essential in quantitative methods and for improving the accuracy of analyte measurements in biological samples. In this study, a statistical analysis model built in the R language (The R Foundation for Statistical Computing) was used to identify a set of weighting factors and regression models based on a stepwise selection criteria. An LC-MS/MS method was used to detect the presence of urinary methamphetamine, amphetamine, and 11-nor-9-carboxy-Δ9 -tetrahydrocannabinol in a sample set. Weighting factors for the calibration curves were derived by calculating the heteroscedasticity of the measurements, where the presence of heteroscedasticity was determined via variance tests. The optimal regression model and weighting factor were chosen according to the sum of the absolute percentage relative error. Subsequently, the order of the regression model was calculated using a partial variance test. The proposed statistical analysis tool facilitated selection of the optimal calibration model and detection of methamphetamine, amphetamine, and 11-nor-9-carboxy-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol in urine. Thus, this study for the selection of weighting and the use of a complex regression equation may provide insights for linear and quadratic regressions in analytical and bioanalytical measurements.

In this paper, we suggest a new quasi-sliding mode condition with a wighting factor which guarantees all the states to reach switching planes and improves the convergence of the state trajectories. The result of computer simulation shows that by the suitable selection of a weighting factor, all the state trajectories reach switching planes and enter the sliding mode having the property of the insensitivity to parameter variation and disturbances.
