The present paper proposes two different packet scheduling algorithms in the IEEE 802.16e type TDD-OFDMA downlink, which are the weighted fair scheduling(WFS) and the throughput guarantee scheduling(TGS). The performance of proposed scheduling algorithms are compared to some of conventional schedulers such as round robin(RR), proportional fair(PF), fast fair throughput(FFTH), and fair throughput(FH) in terms of service coverage, effective throughput and fairness at 64 kbps and 128 kbps minimum user throughput requirements. For a relatively smaller throughput(64 kbps) requirement, the proposed algorithms provide higher improvement in the number of users per sector within 95$\%$ service coverage while satisfying the lxEV-DV fairness criterion. For a relatively larger throughput(128 kbps) requirement, the proposed algorithms provide higher coverage enhancement while maintaining the same effective aggregate throughput over PF scheduler.

This paper proposes and analyzes a new media access control (MAC) scheduling algorithm, “Interleaved Polling with Deficit Round Robin (IPDRR)” that supports weighted fairness among ONUs in Ethernet Passive Optical Network (PON). The purpose of the proposed IPDRR algerian is not only to eliminate the unused bandwidth of upstream ONU traffic, but also to provide weighted fair sharing of upstream bandwidth among ONUs in Ethernet PON systems. Simulation results show that the IPDRR improves the utilization of upstream channel by removing the unused bandwidth and provides weighted fairness among ONUs, although the IPACT scheduling is unfair according to traffic characteristics.
The IEEE 802.16 standard is supposed to provide a wide-range broadband wireless service, but it leaves the implementation of the wireless resource scheduler as an open issue. We have studied the scheduling problem and propose a two level scheduling (TLS) scheme with support for quality of service and fairness guarantees for downlink traffic in a WiMAX network. A central controller Base Station has a number of users, and each mobile subscriber station has different channel conditions. The same mobile subscriber station may have different service requirements at different times in the WiMAX network. Based on OPNET simulation, the results show our scheduling algorithm can increase the network throughput, maintain relative fairness, and lower delay over the round robin and weighted round robin algorithms.
This letter proposes a weighted scheduling mechanism for Internet protocol television (IPTV) to improve the loss performance of multicast transmission over an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON). We propose a new weight policy from the number of multicast receivers to proportionally allocate the downstream bandwidth of IPTV traffic. The proposed mechanism is used in an optical line terminal to decrease lost packets of favorite IPTV services because the lost multicast packets are proportional to the number of receivers. The total proportion of lost multicast packets is reduced by up to 73% in an EPON.

Exact solutions for practical-size problems in job shop will be highly inefficient. Scheduling heuristics, therefore, are typically found in the literature. If we consider real-life situations such as machine breakdowns, the existing scheduling methods will be even more limited. Scheduling against due-dates addresses one of the most critical issues in modern manufacturing systems. In this paper, the method for weighted tardiness schedule using a graph theoretic decomposition heuristic is presented. It outstands the efficiency of computation as well as the robustness of the schedule.
The scheduling algorithms to provide quality of service (QoS) in broadband convergence network (BcN) are compared and analysed. The main QoS management methods such as traffic classification, traffic processing in the input queue and weighted queueing are first analysed, and then the major scheduling algorithms of round robin, priority and weighted round robin under recently considering for BcN to supply real time multimedia communications are analysed. The simulation results by NS-2 show that the scheduling algorithm with proper weights for each traffic class outperforms the priority algorithm.

In this paper, we study the problem of network utility maximization in a CSMA based multi-hop wireless network. Existing work in this aspect typically adopted continuous time Markov model for performance modelling, which fails to consider the channel conflict impact in actual CSMA networks. To maximize the utility of a CSMA based wireless network with channel conflict, in this paper, we first model its weighted network capacity (i.e., network capacity weighted by link queue length) and then propose a distributed link scheduling algorithm, called CSMA based Maximal-Weight Scheduling (C-MWS), to maximize the weighted network capacity. We derive the upper and lower bounds of network utility based on C-MWS. The derived bounds can help us to tune the C-MWS parameters for C-MWS to work in a distributed wireless network. Simulation results show that the joint optimization based on C-MWS can achieve near-optimal network utility when appropriate algorithm parameters are chosen and also show that the derived utility upper bound is very tight.

This paper considers a non preemtive single processor scheduling problem in which each set have the two common due dates. The objective of the problem is to minimize the weighted mean absolute deviation of job completion times about such two common due dates under the assumption that each job has a different weight. Such a job sequence is an W-shaped sequence. We propose three heuristic solution methods based on several dominance conditions. Numerical examples are presented. The performance comparison is made among three heuristic scheduling procedures.

This paper considers a scheduling problem to minimize the total weighted completion time in the two-stage assembly-type flowshop. The system is composed of multiple fabrication machines in the first stage and a final-assembly machine in the second stage. Each job consists of multiple components, each component is machined on the fabrication machine specified in advance. The manufactured components of each job are subsequently assembled into a final product on the final-assembly machine. The objective of this paper is to find the optimal schedule minimizing the total weighted completion time of jobs. Three lower bounds are derived and tested in a branch-and-bound (B&B) Procedure. Also, three heuristic algorithms are developed based on the greedy strategies. Computational results show that the proposed B&B procedure is more efficient than the previous work which has considered the same problem as this paper.

Lot-streaming is the process of splitting a job (lot) into a number of smaller sublots and then scheduling these sublots in order to accelerate the completion of jobs in a multi-stage production system. Anew genetic algorithm (NGA) is proposed for an-job, m-machine, equal-size sublot lot-streaming flow shop scheduling problem with delivery windows in which the objective is to minimize the mean weighted absolute deviation of job completion times from due dates. The performance of NGA is compared with that of an adjacent pairwise interchange (API) method and the results of computational experiments show that NGA works well for this type of problem.
