Pathogenic Effects of the Microsporidian Nosema sp., on Larval and Post-cocoon Parameters in Tasar Silkworm, Antheraea mylitta Drury (Daba TV)

  • The commercial rearing of polyphagous Indian tasar silkworm, Antheraea mylitta Drury being practiced on naturally grown primary food plants like Terminalia arjuna, (Arjun) Terminalia tomentosa (Asan), and Shorea robusta (Sal) available in the tropical forests of central India, at times, is seriously affected by the disease- Pebrine, caused by Nosema sp., a microsporidian pathogen. The present investigation on comparative larval, silk gland weight and also cocoon parameters in Pebrine-free and Pebrine-infected ecorace of tasar silkworm Antheraea mylitta Drury (Daba TV), illustrates the tasar silkworm larvae infected with pebrine disease causing heavy losses to the economy of the silk industry.

Effects of High Relative Humidity on Weight Loss, Color Change, and Microbial Activity of Tomatoes during Refrigerated Storage

  • The effects of high relative humidity (RH) on the physicochemical properties and microbial activity of mature green tomatoes ('Dombito') during refrigerated storage were determined at three temperatures (5, 10, and $15^{\circ}C$) and four different RH levels (91, 94, 97, and 99%). At each temperature, the weight loss rates of tomatoes at different levels of RH were significantly (p<0.05) different from each other. For the samples stored at $10^{\circ}C$, the weight losses were generally higher than those for the samples at $15^{\circ}C$ within the same RH level (i.e., greater vapor pressure deficit). The color change rates ('a' value) showed positive slopes, indicating that the tomato color was changing from green to red. Neither bacteria nor fungi caused visible damages to the samples, and the microbial counts were below 650 colony forming units/$cm^2$ during the test period.

트리메틸올멜라민의 세리신 정착에 있어 정착제와 유연제의 영향 (The Effect of Fixing Agents and Softner on Sericin Fixation of Trimethylolmelamine)

  • 트리메틸올멜라민에 의한 세리신 정착 거동을 고찰하기 위해 멜라민과 포름알데하이드를 몰 비 1:3으로 세리신정착액을 조성하여 실크 생사를 정착시켰고, 정련에 의해 세리신 정착 거동을 살펴보았다. 정착 과정에서 세리신의 정착이 일어나는 동시에 열수에 의해 세리신 I의 일부가 제거되었다. 정착 중의 감량과 정련에 의한 연감율은 멜라민과 포름알데하이드의 농도가 증가할수록 크게 감소했다. 0.011몰 멜라민과 0.033몰 포름알데하이드로 정착한 실크 생사는 불충분한 정착과 탄산나트륨에 의한 세리신의 알칼리 가수분해로 인해 많은 정련이 일어났다. 그러나 0.055몰 멜라민과 0.165몰 포름알데하이드로 정착한 실크 생사는 강한 세리신 정착으로 인해 3-8%의 매우 적은 연감율을 보였는데 이는 트리메틸올멜라민에 의해 세리신 I 분자 간에 많은 가교결합이 형성되었기 때문으로 사료된다. 또한 15% owf 유연제의 정착액으로 처리한 경우 정착에 의한 감량과 정련에 의한 연감율이 가장 작게 나타났는데 이는 유연제의 양이온이 세리신 중의 아스파르트산의 음이온과 이온결합을 형성하고 유연제의 소수부와 세리신의 소수성 영역 간에 반데르바알스력이 형성되어 세리신 I의 제거가 다소 억제된 것으로 사료된다.

당뇨 유발 흰쥐에서 여주열매 첨가 시 혈당과 콜레스테롤 수준에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Bitter Melon on Plasma Blood Glucose and Cholesterol Levels in Streptozotocin Induced Diabetic Rats)

  • This study was designed to examine the effects of bitter melon (BM) on the plasma blood glucose and cholesterol levels in diabetic rats. Diabetes mellitus was induced in male Sprague-Dawley rats through an injection of streptozotocin (STZ) dissolved in a citrate buffer into the tail vein at a dose of 45 mg/kg of body weight. Sprague-Dawley rats were then fed for four weeks, with the experimental groups receiving a modified diet containing 5% or 10% powder derived from BM. The experimental groups were divided into 4 groups, consisting of the normal control group, STZ-control group and diabetic fed with BM 5% & 10% treated groups. The rats' body weight, blood glucose and cholesterol values were measured along with the hematocrit (Hct) values and aminotransferase activities. Body weight losses were observed in the diabetic groups, whereas the control rats gained weight. There were significant differences in kidney weight between the control group and the diabetic groups. The Hct levels of the diabetic BM-treated group were significantly higher than the STZ-control group. Aspartate aminotransferase activity was lower in the non-diabetic group compared to the diabetic experimental groups. Further, the blood glucose was significantly decreased in the 5% & 10% BM of the diabetic group. There were no significant difference in cholesterol levels among the diabetic groups. These results indicate that the supplementation of bitter melon may have a favorable influence on reducing the blood glucose level in STZ-induced diabetic rats.

연속/액류방식에 의한 폴리에스테르 직물의 감량특성 (Properties of Alkali Hydrolyzed Polyester Fabric by CDR/Liquor-Flow Type)

  • In this study, Two types of polyester fabrics were hydrolysed with NaOH using the CDR m/c of pad-steam type and the Sofleena m/c of liquor-flow type to determine the alkali hydrolysis properties of polyester fabrics. The results were as follows: Under the same conditions, the weight loss of charmeuse was about 0.5% and 2~3% higher than that of pebble with CDR m/c and with Sofleena m/c, respectively. The weft density of pebble decreased about 14picks/inch with CDR m/c and 3picks/inch with Sofleena m/c comparing to the untreated sample at 18% of weight loss, while the weft density of charmeuse decreased about 5picks/inch with CDR m/c and 2picks/inch with Sofleena m/c at 20% of weight toss. K/S value decreased almost identically within about 11% weight loss of pebble and 8% of charmeuse processed with both CDR and Sofleena. However, in the above these weight losses, K/S value of the fabrics processed with Sofleena was higher than that of fabrics processed with CDR. The bending rigidity of warp direction of the fabrics ($2{\times}10^{-2}gf.cm^2 /cm$ higher for charmeuse and ($7{\times}10^{-3}gf.cm^2 /cm$ higher for pebble) processed with CDR m/c was higher than that of the fabrics processed with Sofleena m/c.

  • 견직물의 효소정련에 있어서 조련정도가 효소정련한 견직물의 특성에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 조련정도가 다른 효소정련견포에 대하여 KES-F System을 적용하여 역학적 특성 즉 인장, 굽힘, 약단, 압축 및 표면특성을 측정하고 태값을 산출하여 비교한 결과는 아래와 같다. 1. 능하부다이 견직물의 경우 조련연감율이 증가와 함께 포의 stiffness는 감소되고 smoothness는 향상되었으나 종합 태값인 soft feeling은 조련 20%에서 가장 우수하였다. 2. 크\ulcorner데신 견직물의 경우 anti-drape stiffness는 조련정도가 커지는데 따라서 증가되었으나 기타 특성과 종합 태값인 Flexibility with soft feeling은 조련정도와 상관이 인정되지 않았다.

SEA 기법을 이용한 저중량 대시판넬 흡,차음재 성능에 대한 연구 (Acoustic Study of light weight insulation system on Dash using SEA technique)

  • In this paper Statistical Energy Analysis has been considered to predict high frequency air borne interior noise. Dash panel Insulation is major part to reduce engine excitation noise. Transmission loss and absorption coefficient are considered to predict dash insulation performance. Transmission lose is derived from coupling loss factor and absorption coefficient is derived from internal damping loss factor. Material Biot properties were used to calculate each loss factors. Insulation geometry thickness distribution was hard to measure, so FeGate software was used to calculate thickness map from CAD drawing. Each predicted transmission losses between conventional insulation and light weight insulation were compared with SEA. Transmission loss measurement was performed to validate each prediction result, and it showed good correlation between prediction and measurement. Finally interior noise prediction was performed and result showed light weight insulation system can reduce 40% weight to keep similar performance with conventional insulation system, even though light weigh insulation system has lower sound transmission loss and higher absorption coefficient than conventional system.

사과 장기(長期) 저장(貯藏)에 있어서 중량감소(重量減少)와 품질변화(品質變化)의 예측(豫測) (Prediction of Weight Losses and Quality Changes in Long Storage of Apples)

  • 3품종의 사과를 4가지의 저장 조건에서 6개월간 저장하면서 중량감소(重量減少)와 품질(品質)의 변화(變化)를 조사(調査)한 후에 이들의 변화를 예측할 수 있는 식을 얻었다. 소형저온저장고 $(^{\circ}C)$에서 발생된 중량감소율의 변화는 직선식으로 예측할 수 있었으며, 품질은 품종이나 저장 조건에 관계 없이 중량감소가 5%이상 발생되면 현저히 열화(劣化)되었다. 또한 저장중 품질의 변화를 사과의 경도 및 산도 만을 측정하여 관능검사와 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있는 직선식을 만들어 상품성 예측을 가능케하였다.

Gypsum-Wood의 제조와 성질 (Manufacture and Properties of Gypsum-Wood)

  • Gypsum-wood composites were made by introducing inorganic substances into wood using calcium chloride, first treating solution, and sodium sulfate, secondary treating solution, by double diffusion process under atmospheric pressure at room temperature. The process conducted as follows: water saturated specimens were soaked in calcium chloride solutions at several concentration. Then the specimens were soaked further in saturated sodium sulfate solution, and they were leached in flowing tap water for 24h. To attain sufficient weight percent gain (WPG) values, the suitable concentration of calcium chloride and soaking time in saturated sodium sulfate solution were 20% and 48h, respectively. Inorganic substances were produced mainly in the lumina of tracheides. It was made sure that these substances were dihydrate gypsum($CaSO_4$ $2H_2O$) by X -ray microanalysis (SEM-EDX). The composites had good fire resistance due to low heat transfer rate of gypsum formed in wood. However, the composites had little decay resistances, because they showed high weight losses by test fungi attacks.

취반시 쌀씻는 물의 양과 발생한 뜨물의 구성 및 처리비용분석 (Total Waste Water at Rice Washing for Rice Cooking, its Composition and Cost Analysis)

  • Washing water volume of rice for cooking and rice weight for one person per meal in one household were surveyed for confirming pollution by the washing water and total losses by rice washing procedures. The mean size of a family was 4.64 persons and the mean consumption weight of rice per capital per meal was 138.43g. It is used 0.782 L of water for washing the rice per capital share. The washing water of rice was composed of 0.32% of total solid, 0.11% of soluble solid and 1.65% of solid loss to rice, and COD and BOD of it were 2.400 and 3.564 ppm respectively. Based on total population in Korea, 41 miliion, excepting age below 4, total cost for washing water of rice summed up about 1,495 billion won including 8.8 billion won for tap water cost, 11.7 billion won for waste water treatment, and 129 billion for solid loss of rice.
