In container crane system, the variation of cargo weight have effect on the travelling and sway control of load. For precise travelling and/or anti-sway control of crane system, the cargo weight should be measured and considered with control algorithm. But, and added attachment for measuring the cargo weight put restraint upon the control freedom for travelling and anti-sway. In this paper, we propose an estimation method for cargo weight in container crane system by using observation technique. First of all, we model the container crane system as a bilinear system and transform this model into linear system with external disturbance model. Second, we propose a generalized type - disturbance estimation observer and set a disturbance model, where, the cargo weight is related with the sway of load, and the sway is represented as a periodic external disturbance. Lastly, by using simulation we verify that the proposed algorithm of disturbance estimation observer is effective to estimate the cargo weight, and it will be used with anti-sway control algorithm.
Bicycle fittings have been used to ride bicycles comfortably while minimizing non-traumatic injuries. To analyze the cause of non-traumatic injuries, it is necessary to measure the body weight distribution in various biking positions. In this study, a weight distribution measurement system was implemented by installing five weighable devices on the saddle, both pedals, and both handle grips of a bicycle. To measure the body weight applied through the saddle, the structure of a commercial seat post was modified and a load cell was installed inside. Weighable pedals and handle grips were designed using a 3D modeling program and fabricated by employing a 3D printer. The body weight distribution for ten bicycle riders was measured when the two pedals were aligned horizontally and vertically. Experimental results showed that the body weight distribution varied significantly depending on human body shape, even after the bicycle fitting was completed. The difference between the body weight measured by the proposed system and a commercial scale was less than 3 %.
This paper presents an algorithm to reduce the time to solve Power Equations using a Neural Net. The Neural Net is trained with samples obtained through the conventional AC Load Flow. With these samples, the Neural Net is constructed and has the function of a linear interpolation network. Given arbitrary load level, this Neural Net generates voltage magnitudes and angles which are linear interpolation of real and reactive powers. Obtained voltage magnitudes and angles are substituted to Power Equations, Real and reactive powers are found. Thus, a new sample is generated. This new experience modifies weight matrix. Continuing to modify the weight matrix, the correct solution is achieved. comparing this method with AC Load flow, this method is faster. If we consider parallel processing, this method is far faster than conventional ones.
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of carrying postures and weight of load carried one time on a worker when carrying heavy loads. Six male students participated in this study to perform a manual materials carrying task as subjects. To make comparison of work loads with physical work capacity, maximal oxygen uptake measurement tests were performed with submaximal test. The average oxygen consumption for the tasks of this study was 27.59~31.93% $VO_2$max. The results showed that the weight of load carried one time affects on working heart rate and oxygen consumption($VO_2$). It was found that the workload was significantly lower when handling a 20kg load at a frequency rate of 3times/min than when handling a 40kg load at a frequency rate of 1.5 times/min. There was no difference between carrying postures. It is concluded from the results of this study that the workload can be reduced by controlling conditions of a manual materials handling task.

Pneumatic actuators have greater power to weight ratio than electric ones, but they have been rarely used as robotic actuators because of poor accuracy resulted from nonliearity of air. On the other hand, electric servo motors have glld controllability, but they have poor power to weight ratio. For the heavy load handling robot a combined actuating method was developed for vertical and horizontal axes of RISTBOT-ll which handles up to 250kgf load. In this paper, the control method is implemented and analyzed for the manufactured heavy load handling robot.

This paper presents the comparison results of some kinds of control method in circumstance of eccentric load. The plant to be controlled is a computed tomography(CT) driven by a permanent magnet synchronous motor. In a CT system, many units are attached on the rotationally part of a gantry such as x-ray tube, detector, heat exchanger, and data acquisition unit etc. Therefore keeping many components to balance which have different weight is not easy; this is inescapable problem in the all CT systems. To solve this problem against eccentric load, some kinds of control method have been compared and analysed by using protype CT. From the experimental results it is vilified that the CT drive system with model reference control method indicates higher speed regulation ability regardless of variable eccentric weight and uncertain position, and also in the limit condition of constant eccentric weight and fixed position, the compensation method with sinusoidal form is a strong candidate in view of speed ripple reduction.

The use of non-bearing light weight wall has increased recently due to the increase of high-rise buildings and supply of long-life housing. Light weight wall has advantages such as reducing the self-weight of the building, convenience in installation, and shortening construction period, however, must have a sufficient strength to external force. This study standardized the impact resistance test method for light weight walls by using the actual impact load obtained through load analysis test in previous studies. The impact resistance test method was divided into the test method that uses soft body and the one that uses hard body. The size of specimen was set up as height 2.4m and width 3.0m. The size and shape of the body followed those used in BS 5234-2 and so on for the compatibility with the test method used overseas. The judgment criteria for impact resistance based on test results were not defined uniformly as the assessment of functional damage can vary depending on the type of material, structural method, purpose of wall, and so on even when the same impact load was applied.
The objective of this study was to identify the effects of weight-transfer training on the weight bearing distribution and gait patterns of hemiplegic patients through visual and auditory feedback using a limb load monitor. The subjects of this study were 18 hemiplegic patients who had been hospitalized or were visited out-patient department of the Rehabilitation Hospital, College of Medicine, Yonsei University, from January 5, 1995 through March 15, 1995. Pre-and post-training changes in gait patterns were measured using ink foot prints as well as by recording weight bearing distribution using a limb load monitor. The data were analyzed by the repeated measure one-way ANOVA and paired t-test. The finding were as follows: 1. Prior to the training, 18 subjects bore more weight on the sound leg(61.6 %) than on the affected leg(38.4 %). 2. Posterior to the training, the average percentage of weight bearing on the affected leg increased significantly from 38.4 % prior to training; to 46.0 % immediately after training; 45.7 % after a 30 second delay; and 45.3 % after a 60 second 3. The difference in gait patterns between pre- and post- training was statistically significant, with an increase in gait velocity to 3.65 cm/sec post-training; an increase in stride length to 5.37 cm on the affected side; 4.77 cm on the sound side; and a narrowing of the base of support to 1.19 cm. In conclusion, hemiplegic weight-transfer training using visual and auditory feedback with a limb load monitor was found to be enhancing symmetrical standing posture, and simultaneously improve gait patterns.

This paper presents the analysis result of load-transfer mechanism and pile movements associated with the development of frictional resistance to understand the engineering characteristics of micropile behavior. An field load tests were performed for two different types of micropiles and they are (i) thread bar reinforcement with D=50mm and (ii) hollow steel pipe reinforcement with $D_{out}$=82.5mm and $D_{in}$=60.5mm and wrapped with woven geotextile for post-grouting. The load test results indicated that micropiling with pressured grouting provided better load-transfer characteristics than micropiling with gravity grouting under both compressive and tensile loading conditions in that unit skin frictional resistance is well distributed along installation depth. The unit weight and unconfined compressive strength of cured grout were obtained for each piling method. The strength and unit weight of micropile with pressured grouting was higher than those with gravity grouting. The fact that load bearing quality with pressured grouting is better than that of gravity grouting could be attributed to the dense mutual adhesion between surrounding ground and pile due to pressurized grouting method and better grout quality.
