  • Laver aquaculture, which occupies a large proportion in the aquaculture industry in Korea, is still highly dependent on human labor. Therefore, it is necessary to study the development of an automatic system to improve the working environment and increase the efficiency of aquaculture production systems. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the economic feasibility of an improved system in a study for the loading-unloading and automatic weighing systems in laver aquaculture industry. Economic analysis of the developed unloading and automatic weighing system were implemented under various conditions to calculate more accurate benefits and costs. As a result of this study, the economic feasibility was found to be very high in the three models: net present value (NPV), benefit-cost ratio (B/C), internal rate of return (IRR). Moreover, the results of sensitivity analysis showed that the economical efficiency of the automatic loading, unloading, and weighing system in laver aquaculture was very high.

Individual Variation of Na Intake and Urinary Excretion in Korean Women

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the daily variation of Na intake as measured by dietary methods(weighing vs food analysis) and to examine the difference between urniary Na excretion and dietary Na intake in 9 healthy free living women aged 25-64 years living in Taegu, Korea. Information on the dietary Na intake for 5 consecutive days was collected using he weighing method. Twenty four-hour urine samples were collected for the same period to measure the urinary Na excretion. In order to figure out the difference of Na intake with respect to dietary assessment methodology, dietary intake was measured by the weighing method for three of a total 5 days. At the same time, the meals that subjects consumed each day were collected to analyze daily intake of each subject by the food analysis method. The mean Na intake of subjects for 5 consecutive days by the weighing method was 3558. 5mg. The mean of urinary Na excretion for the same period was 2847.5mg/ Na intake and Urinary Na excretion of each subject ranged from 4475.3 to 2838.4, from 4066.4rmg to 1936.1mg respectively. The mean of Na intake for 3 days by the analysis method and the weighing method were 3044.6mg and 3441.6mg, respectively. Each subject showed a great difference among day-to-day variation of Na intake by the weighting method, analysis method and urinary Na excretion method. Therefore, a short term study period may not be valid to estimate the true average Na intake.

Development of a Automated Noncontact Weighing System for Pigs (돼지의 자동 비접촉 체중계측 시스템 개발)

  • A automated noncontact weight system for pigs consisted of a CCD-type video camera and 10 photo sensors connected to a computer. In the experiment 20 pigs(Large Yorkshire $\times$ Landrace breed) weighing from 95kg to 115kg were used. Pig's original image data was transformed to a binary image an image excluding head and tail portion from the whole binary image and the area of pig was calculated. Then pig's volume was calculated by multiplying the area by the body hight measured with photo sensors. The correlation equation between the above volume(x) and pig's weight was y=0.0007 x -9.2152($R^2$=0.9965) Performance of a automated noncontact weighing system for pigs was tested with this equation. The results showed $\pm$0.65kg average error and 1.63kg maximum error. It was concluded that performance of a automated noncontact weighing system is excellent.

  • Micro-weighing device by using null balance method is being essential part in fields of high-technology industries such as precision semiconductor industry, precision chemistry, biotechnology and genetics etc. Also, requirements for high resolution and for large measurement range increase more and more. The performance of the micro-weighing device can be determined by the mechanism design and analysis. The analytical design method has been proposed for the performance improvement such as resolution, measurement range and fast response. The 2-stage displacement amplification is designed to overcome the limit of conventional force transmitting lever. The parallel spring is designed for the measurement result independent of the input force position variation. Also, the natural frequency of mechanism is analyzed for the fast response. After each analysis, optimal design has been carried out. To verify the analysis and design result, characteristics experiments had been carried out after construction. Finally, the system had been controlled.

  • The system is designed for the production and processing of feed, fertilizer, sugar , and grain. It can be used to weigh and transport automatically their pellet, power or nonstickness materials. In this system, we use discontinuous totalising automatic weighing instruments to weigh materials. It is a closed-cycle control system controlled by industrial controlling computer STD bus.   • Recently estimating the uncertainty of an analytical result has become an essential part of quantitative analysis. This study describes the uncertainty of the measurement for the determination of methamphetamine and its major metabolite amphetamine in human hair, The method consists of washing, drying, weighing, incubation and extraction with methanolic HCI solution, clean-up, trifluoroacetyl derivatization, and qualification/quantification of residues by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Traceability of measurement was established through traceable standards and calibrated volumetric equipment and measuring instruments. Measurement uncertainty associated with each analyte in real samples was estimated using quality control (QC) data. The main source of combined standard uncertainty comprised two components, which are uncertainties associated with calibration linearity and variations in QC, while those associated with preparation of analytical standards and sample weighing were not so important considering the degree of contribution. Relative combined standard uncertainties associated with the described method ranged for individual analytes from 4.99 to5.03%.

Uncertainty Evaluation of Ammonia Determination in Burley Tobacco (버어리종 담배중 암모니아성 질소에 대한 불확도 측정)

  • The uncertainty of measurement in quantitative analysis of ammonia by continuous-flow analysis method was evaluated following internationally accepted guidelines. The sources of uncertainty associated with the analysis of ammonia were the weighing of sample, the preparation of extracting solution, the addition of extracting solution into the sample, the reproducibility of analysis and the determination of water content in tobacco, etc. In calculating uncertainties, Type A of uncertainty was evaluated by the statistical analysis of a series of observation, and Type B by the information based on supplier's catalogue and/or certificated of calibration. It was shown that the main source of uncertainty was caused by the volume measurement of 1 mL and 2 mL, the purity of ammonia reference material in the preparation of standard solution, the reproducibility of analysis and the determination of water content of tobacco. The uncertainty in the addition of extraction solution, the sample weighing, the volume measurement of 50 mL and 100 mL, and the calibration curve of standard solution contributed relatively little to the overall uncertainty. The expanded uncertainty of ammonia determination in burley tobacco at $95\%$ level of confidence was $0.00997\%$.

  • As the result of reduction of the barrier of national economy on matters of quality assurance of weighing instruments in recently, it is considering in domestic as well as international matters. Therefore, this study is to analysis and compare with international md national measuring standards on the electric self-indicating scale, to improve the quality of electronic machine by providing a reformation plan on currently problems of domestic manufactured, and to identify to introduce in domestic criteria from international standards. I had compared KSC 1313 to OIML R 76-1 as the performance assessment items, such as metrology Properties test, static temperature test, temperature effect testing under the un-load, electronic wave disturbance test, high-tempereature and high-humidity stability test and durability test. Therefore, only one company is passed all items of the test according to the international (reference) standards, but it is possible to improve the quality in general if it should be use the load cell and electric components which is stability of temperature change in order to supplementation to the static temperature test and temperature effect testing under the un-load. It is also possible to apply in the domestic with the OIML 76-1 after correcting the design.

Uncertainty of Total Alkaloids and Reducing Sugar Determination in Flue-cured Tobacco (황색종 담배중 전알카로이드와 환원당 분석에 대한 불확도 측정)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the uncertainty in the analysis of total alkaloids and reducing sugar content in flue-cured tobacco. The sources of uncertainty associated with the analysis of total alkaloids and reducing sugar were the weighing of sample, the preparation of extracting solution, the addition of extracting solution into the sample, the preparation of standard solution, the precision of calibration curve for standard solution, the reproducibility of analysis, and the determination of water content in tobacco, etc. For the calculating uncertainties, Type A of uncertainty was evaluated by the statistical analysis of a series of observation, and Type B by the information based on supplier’s catalogue and/or certificated of calibration. It was shown that the main source of uncertainty was caused by the calibration curve of standard solution, the reproducibility of analysis, the volume measurement of 1$m\ell$, and the purity of nicotine reference material in the preparation of standard solution. The uncertainty in the addition of extracting solution, the sample weighing, the volume measurement of 100$m\ell$, and the determination of water content of tobacco contributed relatively little to the overall uncertainty. The expanded uncertainty of total alkaloids and reducing sugar in flue-cured tobacco at 95% level of confidence was $\pm$0.12% and $\pm$0.54%, respectively.
