  • Recently firms which have been using traditional VAN-EDI are adapting Web-EDI at very rapid pace. Based on the Internet, Web-EDI is easier to install, is cheaper and more accessible than VAN-EDI. Web-EDI establishes an electronic hierarchy as a type of Inter-Organization Information System. An electronic hierarchy connects two legally separate firms in an electronically mediated relationship. The primary reasons for establishing an electronic hierarchy is to improve the flow of materials and information between firms. This paper suggests two hypotheses that describe the possible impact of Web-EDI on firms in the Web-EDI network, and empirically tests them using data from a case study based on a discount store. The result is as follows. First, the more a firm utilizes information shared through Web-EDI, the higher the inventory turns. Second, a higher level of information sharing does not necessarily increase the inventory turns of Web-EDI adopters who are coerced to implement the electronic networks by the champion. These findings imply that the operational performance of Web-EDI adopters can be improved only when the firms intensively utilize the information shared through Web-EDI for their business processes.

  • The implementation of Internet based on EDI has become a major issue because of the huge development of the internet. Internet EDI is a technology which combines the strength of EDI and Internet technologies and it can be classified in FTP-EDI, SMTP/MINE EDI, and Web EDI. Recently, the number of companies which are adopted Web EDI increase to overcome shortcomings of high communication costs and high foundation and maintenance expenses of VAN EDI. This research is intended to examine the effect that characteristics of innovation and partnership as relationship with trading partner will affect the Web-EDI implementation. To achieve these purposes, we surveyed people who are in charge of Web EDI in their companies. A survey questionnaire was sent 376 people in charge of Web EDI in their companies, and 66 usable responses were obtained. The results of this research can be summarized as follows. First, it's affirmed, among partnership factors, that participation and interdependence significantly affect Web EDI implementation. It's also suggested, among innovation factors, compatibility, relative advantage, and cost reduction significantly affect Web EDI implementation.

  • At present, the EDI systems are indispensable software in port logistics industry. Currently, a monopolistic VAN/EDI service provider operates the EDI services. The current EDI client software has the 2-tier fat client/server architecture. However, the current EDI software is lack of Web interface and causes lots of cost for maintenance. Therefore, a variety of implementation architecture has been being tried by using script, XML and distributed object-oriented technology. Web/EDI and XML/EDI are the new EDI systems, However, the EDI systems have some limitations such as speed. This study intends to compare the variety implementation architecture for the EDI systems in the users' perspective and explore the strong and weak points of each architecture. We compared the EDI systems based on our experience of more than 2-years of implementation project for the EDI systems of port logistics. We categorized the EDI systems as client application EDI, Web EDI using script, XML/EDI, and 3-tier distributed object-oriented EDI system. We compared them with criteria such as speed, program maintenance, easiness of implementation and usage, security, and load balancing and fail-over. Finally we discuss the direction of optimal EDI system architecture for the future.

CEFACT(Center for Facilitation of Procedures and practices for Administration Commerce and Transport))와 보다 안전하고 신뢰성 있는 전자상거래 솔류션의 마련을 위해 이루어진 각종 국제기구들의 활동 및 결과물들을 소개하고 다음으로 인터넷의 급속한 확산으로 새롭게 개발되고 있는 Web-based EDI, XML/EDI, Simpl-EDI, Form-based EDI 그리고 Lite-EDI의 저비용적 구조 측면을 분석하여 중소규모화주들의 EDI에 대한 인식을 제고시킴으로써 EDI의 전반적인 확산을 도모하고 있다.

  • The EDI system supports the working environment which can exchange the standardized document through the each agreed communication method. Traditional EDI system is complicated to be implemented and needed high cost te using the system because of the specific VAN(Value Added Network). This Paper proposes the XML/EDI system using the web-based distributed object and proposed the component 'AnySchema', as it makes be able to use legacy Database for EDI user. This XML/EDI system exchanges the XML documents through the Internet, so proposed low cost to support the system. Also, by using the XML document, it doesn't need EDI specific software and easy to exchange data between different systems. This system is implemented by using Java, as platform-independent.

  • As the Internet spreads rapidly, the industrial structure is changing to a new paradigm. The previous EDI system was asked to be changed and WEB EDI, E-Mail EDI, FTP EDI etc. based on the internet have appeared. Recently, the XML/EDI which is based on XML documents has appeared. EDI system has to assure a safe exchange between senders and receivers. But, the internet has security problems because it uses a open TCP/IP protocol. In this paper, we will propose an XML/EDI system with XML Signature.
