  • This paper focuses on the Hangul-to-roman conversion of Korean names. The proposed method recognizes existing notation and provides results according to the frequency of use. There are two main reasons for the diversity in Hangul-to-roman name conversion. The first is the indiscreet use of varied notation made domestically and overseas. The second is the customary notation of current notation. For these reasons, it has become possible to express various Roman characters in Korean names. The system constructs and converts data from 4 million people into a statistical dictionary. In the first step, the person's name is judged through a process matching the last name. In the second step, the first name is compared and converted in the statistical dictionary. In the last step, the syllables in the name are compared and converted, and the results are ranked according to the frequency of use. This paper measured the performance compared to the existing service systems on the web. The results showed a somewhat higher performance than other systems.

  • Nowadays there are over 1.6 billion web pages and it is hard to get necessary results that user wants. Most search engines allow you to search with logical form to get accurate results. However, normal users are not familiar to search information as logical form. Therefore, they search in natural language rather than in complicated logical form. In this paper there are some suggestions to improve quality of searching results, converting natural language input by the user into logical form which can able to use advanced search engine. Users tend to make short searches due to the 'Simplicity' which is one of the features of the search form. Therefore we suggest history retrieval method; advanced version of previous suggestion to provide convenience to the normal users. We had improvement on accuracy of the search results converting natural languages to logical form and also can contain every keyword without missing any keywords using searching methods on this paper. It is expected that these search methods will contribute to the development of search engines.

  • As the number of tourists visiting Seoul are continuously increasing, the demand of an integrative tour pass is also increasing. However, only a few tour passes are available for the tourists in Seoul. In this paper, we propose a new tour pass called "Seoul Landmark Pass" targeting foreign individual travelers and investigate the marketability of the proposed tour pass. For the configuration of the Seoul Landmark Pass we listed 17 candidate attractions charging entrance fee in Seoul, referring to e-guidebook on Visit Seoul web site. Among them we selected 6 attractions using the checklist with the attributes that foreign tourists would prefer. We also performed SWOT analyzes on existing tour passes to determine the benefits to be included in the proposed tour pass. To investigate the marketability of the proposed tour pass we have surveyed the foreign individual tourists in Seoul. Using the survey data, we have analyzed the intent of purchase by age, visiting period, visiting purpose, frequency of visit, and nationality to identify target customers. The results show that the intent of purchase is high among the Chinese tourists at the age of twenties who visited Seoul for the first time or second times. Also, the individual tourists prefer to bundle T-money card with the proposed tour pass. Finally, we have provided a brief review of the Price Sensitivity Measurement (PSM) method and applied PSM to determine the acceptable price range and the optimal price of the proposed tour pass. The optimal price of the proposed tour pass is determined at 53,000 won including T-money card.

  • Purpose: While empirical importance of dimensionality of perceived value is widely accepted, our understanding of experiential value dimensions in other retail channels and other cultures has not been explicitly tested. This study attempted to determine if the dimensions of experiential value scale (EVS) by Mathwick, Malhotra, and Rigdon (2001) identified in US catalog and Internet contexts could be applied in other international markets (South Korea) and in other retail channels (department store versus Internet shopping mall). Methodology/Approach: Two data sets, one from 220 department store shoppers and the other from 359 Internet shopping mall shoppers, were analyzed. Findings: Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed four different EVS dimensions by retail channels. Overall, entertainment and intrinsic enjoyment values were found to be more important in department store while economic and efficiency value dimensions were interpreted critical in Internet shopping mall context. Visual appeal aspect constitutes distinct value dimension in two channels. Practical Implications: One separate dimension of time efficiency in Internet shopping mall suggests that more efficient web design and functions that can save time and promote convenience are needed to better accommodate their customers. Internet has heavily relied on traditional attributes, such as factual information, price comparability, and brand name reliance. However, this study suggests that Internet shopping mall retailer should offer visual diversion and stimulation just as brick and mortar shopping malls do. Originality /Value of Paper: Although the research findings must be viewed as tentative because the results are from one country, they provide a rich basis for further understanding the dimensions of experiential value in other international markets and other retail channels. • Background: A number of association studies have been carried out to investigate the relationship between genetic polymorphisms in DNA repair genes and response to radiotherapy-based multimodality treatment of patients with rectal cancer. However, their conclusions were inconsistent. The objective of the present study was to assess the role of DNA repair gene genetic polymorphisms in predicting genetic biomarkers of the response in rectal cancer patients treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiation. Materials and Methods: Studies were retrieved by searching the PubMed database, Cochrane Library, Embase, and ISI Web of Knowledge. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the association between genetic polymorphisms and the response in rectal cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiation by checking odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Data were extracted from 5 clinical studies for this meta-analysis. The results showed that XRCC1 RS25487, XRCC1 RS179978, XRCC3 RS861539, ERCC1 RS11615 and ERCC2 RS13181 were not associated with the response in the radiotherapy-based multimodality treatment of patients with rectal cancer (p>0.05). Conclusions: This study shows that DNA repair gene common genetic polymorphisms are not significantly correlated with the radiotherapy-based multimodality treatment in rectal cancer patients.

  • Background: Many studies have investigated associations between the glutathione S-transferase M1 (GSTM1) null polymorphism and risk of prostate cancer, but the impact of GSTM1 in people who live in Asian countries is still unclear owing to inconsistencies across results. Methods: We searched the PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Ovid and CNKI databases for studies of associations between the GSTM1 null genotype and risk of prostate cancer in people who live in Asian countries, and estimated summary odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Results: A total of 18 case-control studies with 2,172 cases and 3,258 controls were included in this meta-analysis, which showed the GSTM1 null genotype to be significantly associated with increased risk of prostate cancer in people who live in Asian countries (random-effects OR=1.74, 95% CI1.44-2.09, P<0.001). Similar results were found in East Asians (OR=1.41; 95% CI: 1.12-1.78; P=0.004) and Caucasians in Asia (OR=2.19; 95% CI: 1.85-2.60; P<0.001). No evidence of publication bias was observed. Conclusions: This meta-analysis of available data suggested that the GSTM1 null genotype does contribute to increased risk of prostate cancer in people who live in Asian countries.

  • Background: The association between calcium channel blockers (CCBs) and survival in cancer patients remains unclear and the results of related studies are conflicting. The objective of the study was to investigate the association between calcium channel blockers (CCBs) use and survival in cancer patients. Materials and Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library for studies published before January 2016 with the terms related to CCBs and survival in cancer patients. The information was reviewed and extracted by two evaluators independently. Data of publications was extracted and calculated into hazard ratios (HRs) for overall survival (OS). Statistical analysis was performed by using Review Manager 5.3. Results: There were 11 studies included in our meta-analysis. Analysis of all studies showed that CCBs use was not associated with survival in cancer patients (HR=1.07; 95% CI: 0.91-1.25; P=0.42). No association between CCBs use and overall survival in cancer patients was existed whether in Asian (HR=1.18, 95% CI: 0.72-1.93; P=0.52) or Caucasian population (HR=1.03, 95% CI: 0.89-1.20; P=0.66). Conclusions: There is no evidence that CCBs use is associated with a better or worse outcome of survival in cancer patients.
