Development of a Concept Network Useful for Specialized Search Engines (전문검색엔진을 위한 개념망의 개발)

  • It is not easy to find desired information in the world wide web. In this research, we introduce a notion of concept network that is useful in finding information if it is used in search engines that are specialized in domains such as medicine, law or engineering. The concept network that we propose is a network in which nodes represent significant concepts in the domain, and links represent relationships between the concepts. We may use the concept network constructor as a preprocessor to speci-alized search engines. When user enters a target word to find information, our system generates and displays a concept network in which nodes are con-cepts that are closely related with the target word. By reviewing the network, user may confirm that the target word is properly selected for his intention, otherwise he may replace the target word with better ones discovered in the network. In this research, we propose a detailed method to construct concept net-work, implemented a prototypical system that constructs concept networks, and illustrate its usefulness by demonstrating a practical case.

  • Nowadays world wide web has been abundunt in quantity. However, the quality decreaed. Due to the much information, we need to select search some key words and review the search results using keywords related search methods in order to obtain information users want. In this paper, we propose the system design of treatise retrieval through metadata reasoning using ontology. In the process of this design, we express a particular treatise information as semantic-based metadata using ontology instead of using simple keywords relationship which has been used conventionally.

  • HMS(Hallym Mediator System)는 XML을 기본 데이터 모델로 하여 인터넷에 산재하여 있는 분산이질 정보에 대한 통합, 검색기능을 제공하는 미디에이터 시스템이다. 분산이질 정보의 공통 스키마 구조로서 XML DTD를 사용하며, 각종 정보에 대한 가상의 통합 뷰(view) 생성기능을 제공하여 웹 상의 통합된 가상정보 구조를 표현한다. 웹 상의 일반 사용자는 이와 같이 생성된 뷰 DTD를 근거로 분산이질 정보에 대한 구조적, 내용적 질의를 수행할 수 있다. HMS는 가상접근 기법(virtual approach) 기반의 정보검색 시스템으로서, 사용자 질의는 XML 형태의 소스 매핑정보를 이용하여 각 소스에 대한 부질의로 변환되며, 각 소스로부터의 검색결과는 시스템에 의하여 통합되어 XML 문서 형태로 돌아오게 된다. HMS에서 는 DTD 구동형의 비쥬얼 사용자 인터페이스를 제공하여, 관리자와 일반 사용자에게 직관적이고 간편한 가상정보 구축 및 질의검색 환경을 제공한다.

Conceptual Object Grouping for Multimedia Document Management

  • Increase of multimedia information in Web requires a new method to manage and service multimedia documents efficiently. This paper proposes a conceptual object grouping method by fuzzy filtering, which is automatically constituted based on increase of multimedia documents. The proposed method composes subsumption relations between conceptual objects automatically using fuzzy filtering of the document objects that are extracted from domains. Grouping of such conceptual objects is regarded as subsumption relation which is decided by $\mu$-cut. This paper proposes $\mu$-cut, FAS(Fuzzy Average Similarity) and DSR(Direct Subsumption Relation) to decide fuzzy filtering, which groups related document objects easily. This paper used about 1,000 conceptual objects in the performance test of the proposed method. The simulation result showed that the proposed method had better retrieval performance than those for OGM(Optimistic Genealogy Method) and BGM(Balanced Genealogy Method).

  • Achieving the beneficiary goal of recent discovery in human genome project still needs a way to retrieve and analyze the exponentially expanding bio-related information. Research on bio-related fields naturally applies knowledge discovered to the current problem and make inferences to extract new information where shared concepts and data containing information need to be defined and used in a coherent way. In such a professional domain, while the need to help users reduce their work and to improve search results has been emerged, methods for systematic retrieval and adequate exchange of relevant information are still in their infancy. The design of our system aims at improving the quality of information retrieval in a professional domain by utilizing both corpus-based and concept-based ontology. Meta-rules of helping users to make an adequate query are formed into an ontology in the domain. The integration of those knowledge permits the system to retrieve relevant information in a more semantic and systematic fashion. This work mainly describes the query models with details of GUI and a secondary query generation of the system.

  • According to increasing in number of smart phone subscribers to offer the convenience of users, wide range of applications in various fields have emerged. Recently, a lot of applications are being developed to provide a way of receiving information according to the user's current location. Also, the news seems difficult to provide the necessary information among the numerous data. Especially, it is difficult to find the news that associated with the region. There are many applications that provide news, but there is no system to provide news information according to the user's location information in domestic, so users not receive the news of the region. In this paper, we propose a news retrieval application which provides users with news around by using the location information of smart phone users. Because this system provides news of the region, it has the advantage to obtain the around information easily. The proposed system, whose name is 'ChungbukN', provides news that receives data at chungbuk comprehensive daily newspaper 'Daily Chungbuk'.

Semantic Search System using Ontology-based Inference (온톨로지기반 추론을 이용한 시맨틱 검색 시스템)

  • The semantic web is the web paradigm that represents not general link of documents but semantics and relation of document. In addition it enables software agents to understand semantics of documents. We propose a semantic search based on inference with ontologies, which has the following characteristics. First, our search engine enables retrieval using explicit ontologies to reason though a search keyword is different from that of documents. Second, although the concept of two ontologies does not match exactly, can be found out similar results from a rule based translator and ontological reasoning. Third, our approach enables search engine to increase accuracy and precision by using explicit ontologies to reason about meanings of documents rather than guessing meanings of documents just by keyword. Fourth, domain ontology enables users to use more detailed queries based on ontology-based automated query generator that has search area and accuracy similar to NLP. Fifth, it enables agents to do automated search not only documents with keyword but also user-preferable information and knowledge from ontologies. It can perform search more accurately than current retrieval systems which use query to databases or keyword matching. We demonstrate our system, which use ontologies and inference based on explicit ontologies, can perform better than keyword matching approach .

The Topic-Rank Technique for Enhancing the Performance of Blog Retrieval (블로그 검색 성능 향상을 위한 주제-랭크 기법)

  • As people have heightened attention to blogs that are individual media, a variety rank algorithms was proposed for the blog search. These algorithms was modified for structural features of blogs that differ from typical web sites, and measured blogs' reputations or popularities based on the interaction results like links, comments or trackbacks and reflected in the search system. But actual blog search systems use not only blog-ranks but also search words, a time factor and so on. Nevertheless, those might not produce desirable results. In this paper, we suggest a topic-rank technique, which can find blogs that have significant degrees of association with topics. This technique is a method which ranks the relations between blogs and indexed words of blog posts as well as the topics representing blog posts. The blog rankings of correlations with search words are can be effectively computed in the blog retrieval by the proposed technique. After comparing precisions and coverage ratios of our blog retrieval system which applis our proposed topic-rank technique, we know that the performance of the blog retrieval system using topic-rank technique is more effective than others.

  • While the method of information collection and visual interface technique have been researched actively on web information retrieval, a study on structured modeling for effective classification of a wide collective information leaves to be desired. In this paper, we represent information feature based on structured information model. It aims at carrying out effectively the user's retrieval environment through visualization technique with analyzing the information feature. We propose a information classification method using Facet units and we construct the object model, table model, SQL code to define the relation of the information, and represent the information feature based on a wide range of views. After users gain a better global understanding of the information feature, retrieve more easily through their information. Conventional information retrieval is user-oriented to be what user want, but proposed technique it data-oriented which helps users to understand what exist in database by showing information feature.

This paper designed and made distributed system. these system effectively manages the science technology information documents. this paper made an experiment using a large mount of science technology information system. this paper analyzed the result of experimenting.
