  • This paper illustrates the application of co-occurrence theory to generate lightweight ontologies semi-automatically. The proposed model includes three steps of a (Semi-) Automatic creation of Ontology; (they are conceptually named as) the Syntactic-based Ontology, the Semantic-based Ontology and the Ontology Refinement. Each of these three steps are designed to interactively work together, so as to generate Lightweight Ontologies. The Syntactic-based Ontology step includes generating Association words using co-occurrence in web documents. The Semantic-based Ontology step includes the Alignment large Association words with small Ontology, through the process of semantic relations by contextual terms. Finally, the Ontology Refinement step includes the domain expert to refine the lightweight Ontologies. We also conducted a case study to generate lightweight ontologies in specific domains(news domain). In this paper, we found two directions including (1) employment co-occurrence theory to generate Syntactic-based Ontology automatically and (2) Alignment large Association words with small Ontology to generate lightweight ontologies semi-automatically. So far as the design and the generation of big Ontology is concerned, the proposed research will offer useful implications to the researchers and practitioners so as to improve the research level to the commercial use.

  • This study aims to develop ontologies regarding cultural knowledge of Thai-Khmer textiles by applying the Knowledge Engineering Methodology to build upon the ontologies. The process includes 1) generating the ontologies' objectives, 2) building ontologies, and 3) evaluating the ontologies. The researchers used OntOlogies Pitfall Scanner (OOPS!) to minimize defects and asked two experts to evaluate the ontologies' design. Protégé was used to design the ontologies, and WIDOCO was used to present the ontologies through the World Wide Web. It was found that the developed ontology consists of two classes, 16 sub-classes, and 16 relationships. The ontologies assessment found that there were seven items to fix according to the OOPS! software. Apart from the assessment program, the experts mentioned that all five aspects were suitable; namely, the ontology design was evaluated at 4.51 (Likert), the process of identifying scopes of definitions and objectives of development was 4.61, the applications and guidelines for further development was 4.58, the process of forming classes was 4.53, and the process of generating class's properties was 4.50.

  • Ontology is important role in semantic web to construct and query semantic data. Because of dynamic characteristic of ontology, P2P environment is considered for ontology processing in web environment. For efficient processing of ontology in P2P environment, clustering of peers should be considered. When new peer is added to the network, cluster allocation problem of the new peer is important for system efficiency. For clustering of peers with similar chateristics, similarlity measure method of ontology in added peer with ontologies in other clusters is needed. In this paper, we propose similarity measure techniques of ontologies for clustering of peers. Similarity measure method in this paper considered ontology's strucural characteristics like schema, class, property. Results of experiments show that ontologies of similar topics, class, property can be allocated to the same cluster.

  • The Semantic Web is an evolving extension of the WWW in which the semantics of information and services on the web is defined, making it possible for the web to understand and satisfy the requests of people and machines to use the web content. The sementic web relied on the ontologies that structure underling data for the purpose of comprehensive and transportable machine understanding. The Semantic Web relies on the ontologies that structure underlying data for the purpose of comprehensive and transportable machine understanding. And recommendation systems have been developed as a solution to the abundance of choice people face in many situations. This paper shows that the new recommendation method is suitable for effective recommendation on the semantic web. We present a new procedure for improving the effective recommendation by using the levelized context ontology. Our experimental results also confirm that our method has good recommendation time. Our proposed method can be generalized to fit other application domains.

  • Ontologies, which are the core of the Semantic Web, are usually limited by specific domains or created by defining meanings and relationships that depend on the heuristic. However, the creation of an ontology is not only very difficult but also very time-consuming. In contrast with ontologies that are used in specific fields, an ontology for the Web entails an unlimited scope of knowledge and expression of information. Hence, it is hard to express information in the same way that is used to create ontologies in specific fields. Therefore, the automatic generation of an ontology takes very important role in the Semantic Web. In this paper, to make ontologies automatically, we suggest the methods to create and renew ontologies by expanding keywords related to the index-terms which are extracted from the search keywords which users input in the search engines by analyzing the morphemes.

  • Recently, one of the most challenging problems is to compose web services dynamically, that is, on demand. A number of researchers have been considerably interested in the dynamic web services composition. However, while most of them focused on the semi-automatic web services composition with a human controller, very little attention was devoted to the full automation of this process. This paper primarily focuses on the automatic web services composition techniques. The main idea is to implement an automatic web services composition system using web ontologies to realize the semantic web and workflow technologies to play a major role in E-businesses. In this paper, we propose a matching algorithm for web service discovery and present an approach based on the use of ontologies to facilitate the interoperability of web services. Finally, we describe a workflow execution plan to support the automatic web services composition, and an experimental study that shows the high performance of our system.

  • With the advent of Web 2.0, the use of RESTful web services is expected to overtake that of the traditional SOAP-based web services. Recently, the growing number of RESTful web services available on the web raises the challenging issue of how to locate the desired web services. However, the existing keyword searching method is insufficient for the bad recall and the bad precision. In this paper, we propose a novel building semantic ontology method which employs both the clustering technique based on association rules and the semantic analysis technique based on patterns. From this method, we can generate ontologies automatically, reduce the burden of semantic annotations, and support more efficient web services search. We ran our experiments on the subset of 168 RESTful web services downloaded from the PregrammableWeb site. The experimental results show that our method achieves up to 35% improvement for recall performance, and up to 18% for precision performance compared to the existing keyword searching method.

  • An ontology as the core element of Semantic Web is a formal specification of a conceptualization of shared domain knowledge. The use of well-defined ontologies can increase the quality of interoperable information systems in the area of Semantic Web. However, in practice, it is not easy to develop high-quality ontologies which have no errors. Therefore, with methodologies for ontology design, various methods or tools for ontology analysis supporting for error-detection might be very helpful for ontology developers. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for analyzing the core constructs of ontology based on the Formal Concept Analysis and develop a tool that supports error-checking ontologies. Our approach can serve not only as a guidance to modify the existing ontologies, but also as a valuable tool in developing high-quality ontologies.

  • The exponential growth of information on the web far exceeds the capacity of present day information retrieval systems and search engines, making information integration on the web difficult. In order to overcome this, semantic web technologies were proposed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to achieve a higher degree of automation and precision in information retrieval systems. Semantic web, with its promise to deliver machine understanding to the traditional web, has attracted a significant amount of research from academia as well as from industries. Semantic web is an extension of the current web in which data can be shared and reused across the internet. RDF and ontology are two essential components of the semantic web architecture which support a common framework for data storage and representation of data semantics, respectively. Ontologies being the backbone of semantic web applications, it is more relevant to study various approaches in their application, usage, and integration into web services. In this article, an effort has been made to review the research work being undertaken in the area of design and development of ontology supported information systems. This paper also briefly explains the emerging semantic web technologies and standards.
