  • Recently, it has become a social problem due to fine particles. There are more people wearing masks, weather alerts and disaster notices. Research and policy are actively underway. Meteorologically, the biggest damage caused by fine particles is the inversion layer phenomenon. In this study, we designed a system to warn fine Particles by analyzing inversion layer and wind direction. This weather information system proposes a system that can efficiently perform scalability and parallel processing by using OGC sensor web enablement system and NoSQL storage for sensor control and data exchange.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to classify road weather conditions into rain, fog, and sun using a SVM (Support Vector Machine) classifier after extracting weather features from images acquired in real time using an optical sensor installed on a roadside post. A multi-dimensional weather feature vector consisting of factors such as image sharpeness, image entropy, Michelson contrast, MSCN (Mean Subtraction and Contrast Normalization), dark channel prior, image colorfulness, and local binary pattern as global features of weather-related images was extracted from road images, and then a road weather classifier was created by performing machine learning on 700 sun images, 2,000 rain images, and 1,000 fog images. Finally, the classification performance was tested for 140 sun images, 510 rain images, and 240 fog images. Overall classification performance is assessed to be applicable in real road services and can be enhanced further with optimization along with year-round data collection and training.

  • In this paper, an effort has been made to design and develop a meteorological data logger for meteorological purpose. This data logger is proposed to be included various sensor interface that used in weather sensors. Besides, numbers of meteorological process libraries are added into this data logger to make it able to perform as unattended weather monitoring system. Data output of this data logger are also design to support multiple protocol that commonly used in data logger, and several communication devices that commonly used in the market. Each data that logged will be logged together with date and time and able to retrieve via serial port using hyper terminal. It is also configurable via serial port.

  • Weather causes much of the risk of agricultural activity. For efficient farming, we need to use weather information. Modern agriculture has been developed to create high added value through convergence with state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This study deals with the quality control algorithms of weather monitoring equipment through Ubiquitous Sensor Network (USN) observational equipment for efficient cultivation of cabbage. Accurate weather observations are important. To achieve this goal, the Korea Meteorological Administration, for example, developed various quality control algorithms to determine regularity of the observation. The research data of this study were obtained from five USN stations, which were installed in Anbandegi and Gwinemi from 2015 to 2017. Quality control algorithms were developed for flat line check, temporal outliers check, time series consistency check and spatial outliers check. Finally, the quality control algorithms proposed in this study can also identify potential abnormal observations taking into account the temporal and spatial characteristics of weather data. It is expected to be useful for efficient management of highland cabbage production by providing quality-controlled weather data.

  • Predictive IoT Sensor Algorithm is a technique of data science that helps computers learn from existing data to predict future behaviors, outcomes, and trends. This algorithm is a cloud predictive analytics service that makes it possible to quickly create and deploy predictive models as analytics solutions. Sensors and computers collect and analyze data. Using the time series prediction algorithm helps to predict future temperature. The application of this IoT in industrial environments like power plants and factories will allow organizations to process much larger data sets much faster and precisely. This rich source of sensor data can be networked, gathered and analyzed by super smart software which will help to detect problems, work more productively. Using predictive IoT technology - sensors and real-time monitoring - can help organizations exactly where and when equipment needs to be adjusted, replaced or how to act in a given situation.

  • Snow fall and icing on traffic roads in the winter season cause not only inconvenience but unexpected traffic accidents, so the proper measures are needed. The existing road information system is being installed for steep slope roads in mountain areas, however, it is not widely adopted because it is too expensive. In this paper, a novel and cost-effective road weather information system especially for snow fall and icing on roads is proposed. The system consists of digital temperature and relative humidity sensor, infrared temperature sensor, ultrasonic sensor, CMOS camera, and two types of control/communication board for ubiquitous sensor network to send the data to server. The server program including the decision making method with received data is also described. Experimental results are provided to prove the feasibility of the proposed system.

  • In this paper, we implemented a safety navigation mobile application that converged AtoN information and location-based services. When application user uses the smartphone's GPS sensor to transmit the user's vessel location data to the data server, the user receives information of which its providing range is considered, such as stored AtoN data, neighboring vessels information, danger area, and weather information in the server. Providing information is sorted based on the smartphone's direction and inclination and it will be also delivered via wireless network (5G, LTE, 3G, WiFi). Additionally the application is available to implement other functions such as information provision through voice and text alarming service when the user's vessel is either approaching or entering the danger area, and an expanded information provision service that is available in shadow area linking with data-storing methods; other linkable data such as weather and other neighboring vessels will be applied based on the lasted-saved data perceived from the non-shadow area.

  • A drone has recently got attention as an instrument for weather observation in lower atmosphere because it can produce the high spatiotemporal resolution weather data even though the weather phenomenon is inaccessible. Sea fog is a weather phenomenon occurred in lower atmosphere, and has observational limitations because it occurs on the sea. Therefore, goal of this study is to analyze the vertical structures about inflow, development and dispersion of sea fog using the high-resolution weather data with the meteorological sensor-equipped drone. This study observed sea fogs in the west coast of the Korean peninsula from March to October 2021 and investigated one sea fog inflowed into the coast on June 8th 2021. θe - qv diagrams (θe: equivalent potential temperature, qv: water vapor ratio) and vertical wind structures were analyzed. At inflow of sea fog, moist adiabatically stable layer was formed in 0-300 m and prevailing wind was switched from south-southwesterly to west-southwesterly under 120 m. Both changes are favorable for sea fog on the location. θe and qv plummeted in a layer 0-183 m. The inflowed sea fog developed from 183 m to 327 m by mixing with ambient atmosphere on top of sea fog. Also, strong mechanical turbulence near ground drove a vertical mixing under stable layer. At dispersion of sea fog, as θe on ground gradually increased, air condition was changed to neutral. Evaporation occurred on both bottom and top in sea fog. These results induced dissipation of sea fog.

  • In this study, we developed a multi-sensor blending short-term rainfall forecasting technique using radar and satellite data during extreme rainfall occurrences in Busan and Gyeongnam region in August 2014. The Tropical Z-R relationship ($Z=32R^{1.65}$) has applied as a optimal radar Z-R relation, which is confirmed that the accuracy is improved during 20mm/h heavy rainfall. In addition, the multi-sensor blending technique has applied using radar and COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) data for quantitative precipitation estimation. The very-short-term rainfall forecasting performance was improved in 60 mm/h or more of the strong heavy rainfall events by multi-sensor blending. AWS (Automatic Weather System) and MAPLE data were used for verification of rainfall prediction accuracy. The results have ensured about 50% or more in accuracy of heavy rainfall prediction for 1-hour before rainfall prediction, which are correlations of 10-minute lead time have 0.80 to 0.53, and root mean square errors have 3.99 mm/h to 6.43 mm/h. Through this study, utilizing of multi-sensor blending techniques using radar and satellite data are possible to provide that would be more reliable very-short-term rainfall forecasting data. Further we need ongoing case studies and prediction and estimation of quantitative precipitation by multi-sensor blending is required as well as improving the satellite rainfall estimation algorithm.

  • The local area weather information is very important element to estimate where the air-pollutant will flow. But the existing NBC hazard prediction model does not consider the local area weather information. So, in this paper, we present SN-HPM that uses the local area wether information to perform more accurate and reliable estimate, and embody it to program.
