  • The object of this study was to measure of the distortion of various dental waxes under condition simulating clinical usage. Eleven commercial product (table) including the inlay and baseplate waxes were tested, and compared in the study. Test specimens were prepared $5{\times}5{\times}65mm$. split brass mold. Placed this rod wax specimens and the brass wax distortion test mold into the water bath and tested the distortion values for waxes at $35^{\circ}C,\;40^{\cric}C,\;45^{\circ}C\;and\;50^{\circ}C$. Measured the distortion as the difference between the final (Df) and original (Do) distance between the ends of the specimen. Recorded Df, Do and Df-Do (Distortion) to the nearest 0.5mm. A minimum of five specimens were tested for each material. The following conclusions may be drawn from this study. 1) It can be seen that, a significant wax distortion was obtained with the temperature of forming the pattern, and the length of time and the temperature at which it was stored. 2) It was found that, when the storage time was increased, the wax distortion was correspondingly increased. At the sametime, the higher the storage time was employed, the distortion was obviously much greater. 3) It can be observed that the higher the temperature at which the wax was manipulated, the less was the resulting distortion upon storage.

  • This experiment was intended to obtain a prefect casting body the same as the original wax patterns by melting metal into the opening of the ring. The investment ring was dried to the temperature between 600 and 700, when the wax pattern would be completely melted to leave an empty mould made in the ring. The main point to studied was the investing process for perfect casting body. This process was experimented on several important factors: the size and spatulation of investment particles, purity of wax patterns, investing time after the completion of model, and investing temperature. The results obtained from the above experiment were as follows: A desirable cast body with no fissure or pore would be mode by investing with smaller particles in the first time and with larger onces in the second, both at the temperature between 180.

  • We use investment to retain the mould of the wax pattern in making dental metal castings. A fin on the metal casting is occasionally formed due to several factors. The factors making the fin are improper burn out time and temperature, improper W/P ratio of investment and lining of asbestos in casting ring. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of W/P ratio of investment on the fin formation. Except the W/P ratio of investment which used to invest the wax pattern, the study was done under same condition; burn out time and temperature, W/P ratio of refractory cast(W/P=0.12) and asbestos lining in casting ring. The obtained result is that the fin is more likely to be formed on the casting which invested with higher W/P ratio of investment to that of refractory cast.

  • Casting process includes wax pattern, investment, dewaxing, curing, casting, etc., and each single process is important to achieve a good result. Since 2000, 3D printers have been developed and widely used; as more prefer UV Curavle resin method over wax method, resultant casting defects have become worse. To resolve such problem, preceding research revealed casting defects of existing wax method. In particular, defects of UV Curavle resin method showed difference in investment, dewaxing, deresinating and curing compared to the existing one. Accordingly, results were presented through casting tests; especially, a temperature rising curve only for UV Curavle resin was shown rather than one for the existing method. Lastly, this research classified those not available with direct casting and suggested mold manufacturing. This research is expected to be useful for 3D printer users or those who would conduct direct casting with UV Curavle resin.

  • Functional metal prototypes are often required in numerous industrial applications. These components are typically needed in the early stage of a project to determine form, fit and function. Recent R/P(Rapid Prototyping) part are made of soft materials such as plastics, wax, paper, these master models cannot be employed durable test in real harsh working environment. Parts by direct metal rapid tooling method, such as laser sintering, by now are hard to get net shape, pores of the green parts of powder casting method must be infiltrated to get proper strength as tool, and new type of 3D direct tooling system combining fabrication welding arc and cutting process is reported. But a system which can build directly 3D parts of high performance functional material as metal park would get long period of system development, massive investment and other serious obstacles, such as patent. In this paper, through the rapid tooling process as silicon rubber molding using R/P master model, and fabricate wax pattern in that silicon rubber mold using vacuum casting method, then we translated the wax patterns to numerous metal tool prototypes by new investment casting process combined conventional investment casting with rapid prototyping & rapid tooling process. With this wax-injection-mold-free investment casting, we developed new investment casting process of fabricating numerous functional metal prototypes from one master model, combined 3-D CAD, R/P and conventional investment casting and tried to expect net shape measuring total dimension shrinkage from R/P pare to metal part.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of investing conditions on the marginal discrepancy of conical telescope outer crown with Co-Cr-Ti alloy(Dentitan) and to compare the marginal discrepancy and the retention force of outer crowns using different pattern materials(plastic foil, casting wax, pattern resin). To evaluate the effects of investing conditions on the marginal discrepancy, patterns with plastic foil were invested under three different liquid/powder ratio conditions using phosphate bonded investment(Univest-nonprecious): standard, 10% decreased and 10% increased. At each liquid/powder ratio condition, metal ring was lined with single or double layers of ceramic ring liner. The marginal discrepancy of outer crown at different investing conditions was measured by ${\times}100$ compact measuring microscope(STM5, Olympus, Japan). For measurement of the marginal discrepancy and the retention force of outer crown using different pattern materials, the investing condition of 10% decreased liquid/powder ratio and double layers of ring liner was selected because this investing condition resulted in the best fit of outer crown. Marginal discrepancy was measured in the same way above and retention force on universal testing machine. Under the conditions of this study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. The thickness of ring liner had more influence on the marginal discrepancy of outer crown than the liquid/powder ratio, and the acceptable marginal fitness could not be expected at the investing condition directed by investment manufacturer 2. There were no differences in the marginal discrepancy of outer crown among three different pattern materials(P>0.05). 3. Casting wax showed the greatest retention force(1640g) of outer crown, followed by pattern resin(1110g), plastic foil(820g). However, there was no significant difference between plastic foil and pattern resin(P>0.05). 4. Plastic foil showed the least variation in marginal discrepancy and retention force.

  • Grapholita molesta (GM) has been considered as a major problem to apple and peach orchards. Mating disrupters have been applied to control the pest over the world as an Integrated Pest Management [IPM] tool. Various types of dispensers releasing mating disrupters have been developed with different formulation of wax, polyethylene tube and aerosol. In this study, the dispensers that were composed of ester waxes and polypropylene (PP) film were used as dispenser materials to analyze release pattern of GM pheromone compared with paraffin wax and polyethylene (PE) film. The release pattern in PP film group was consistent with time while PE film group irregular. Based on these results, Japan wax_PP film dispenser (Japan_PP) was manufactured and showed the mating disruption effect of 98% during 5months in peach orchard.
