Recently, by the problems owing to utilization of fossil fuel, various green energies receive attention. Wind, the impetus for the wind power generation as one of the green energies, is observed higher quality value in the offshore than onshore. Also, the development of offshore wind turbines is in the spotlight as alternative to solve the problems of onshore wind farm such as securing sites, noise, and electromagnetic waves, and to get efficient wind energy. Therefore, the many researches on offshore wind energy have been carried out. As wind towers are advanced to ocean, offshore wind towers have been enlarged. Thus, stability is required to endure wind force and wave force. In this study, the external forces act on the foundation in multi-layered are calculated by p-y relation.
The impact of spar-nacelle-blade coupling on edgewise dynamic responses of spar-type floating wind turbines (S-FOWT) is investigated in this paper. Currently, this coupling is not considered explicitly by researchers. First of all, a coupled model of edgewise vibration of the S-FOWT considering the aerodynamic properties of the blade, variable mass and stiffness per unit length, gravity, the interactions among the blades, nacelle, spar and mooring system, the hydrodynamic effects, the restoring moment and the buoyancy force is proposed. The aerodynamic loads are combined of a steady wind (including the wind shear) and turbulence. Each blade is modeled as a cantilever beam vibrating in its fundamental mode. The mooring cables are modeled using an extended quasi-static method. The hydrodynamic effects calculated by using Morison's equation and strip theory consist of added mass, fluid inertia and viscous drag forces. The random sea state is simulated by superimposing a number of linear regular waves. The model shows that the vibration of the blades, nacelle, tower, and spar are coupled in all degrees of freedom and in all inertial, dissipative and elastic components. An uncoupled model of the S-FOWT is then formulated in which the blades and the nacelle are not coupled with the spar vibration. A 5MW S-FOWT is analyzed by using the two proposed models. In the no-wave sea, the coupling is found to contribute to spar responses only. When the wave loading is considered, the coupling is significant for the responses of both the nacelle and the spar.

The fundamental characteristics of nonlinear free-surface waves generated by a shallowly submerged 3-dimensional hydrofoil are investigated. The fluid is assumed inviscid, incompressible and its motion irrotational. The surface tension on the free-surface is neglected. The hydrofoil is represented by a horseshoe vortex system whose shape is assumed fixed. Also the strengths of vortices are assumed given. The exact problem for the wave potential due to the horseshoe vortex system is formulated by the variational principle based on the classical Hamilton's principle. The localized finite element method is used in the numerical computations. In order to increase the numerical efficiency, an intermediate nonlinear-to-linear transition buffer subdomain for a smooth matching is introduced between the fully nonlinear computation subdomain and the truncated linear infinite subdomain. Also used is the modal analysis to reduce the computation tome drastically. The effect of inflow velocity, submergence depth of the hydrofoil and the shape of circulation distribution on the wave profiles are thoroughly examined. Especially it was possible to investigate the nonlinear influence of the free vortex on the free vortex. The nonlinear free-surface effect on the induced forces on the hydrofoil is also investigated.

To evaluate the causes of beach erosion in Sinji-Myeongsasimni Beach, external forces, such as tides, tidal currents, and waves, were observed seasonally from March 2019 to March 2020, and the surface sediments were analyzed for this period. In addition, the shoreline positions and beach elevations were regularly surveyed with a VRS GPS and fixed-wing drone. From these field data, the speed of the tidal currents was noted to be insufficient, but the waves were observed to af ect the deformation of the beach. As the beach is open to the southern direction, waves of heights over 1 m were received in the S-SE direction during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Large waves with heights over 2 m were observed during typhoons in summer and fall. Because of the absence of typhoons for the previous two years from July 2018, the beach area over datum level (DL) as of July 2018 was greater by 30,138m2 compared with that of March 2019, and the beach area as of March 2020 decreased by 61,210m2 compared with that of March 2019 because of four typhoon attacks after July 2018. The beach volume as of March 2019 decreased by 5.4% compared with that of July 2018 owing to two typhoons, and the beach volume as of September 2019 decreased by 7.3% because of two typhoons during the observation year. However, the volume recovered slightly by about 3% during fall and winter, when there were no high waves. According to the sediment transport vectors by GSTA, the sediments were weakly influxed from small streams located at the center of the beach; the movement vectors were not noticeable at the west beach site, but the westward sediment transport under the water and seaward vectors from the foreshore beach were prominently observed at the east beach site. These patterns of westward sediment vectors could be explained by the angle between the annual mean incident wave direction and beach opening direction. This angle was inclined 24° counterclockwise with the west-east direction. Therefore, the westward wave-induced currents developed strongly during the large-wave seasons. Hence, the sand content is high in the west-side beach but the east-side beach has been eroded seriously, where the pebbles are exposed and sand dune has decreased because of the lack of sand sources except for the soiled dunes. Therefore, it is proposed that efforts for creating new sediment sources, such as beach nourishment and reducing wave heights via submerged breakwaters, be undertaken for the eastside of the beach.
In order to determine the temporal and spatial variations of nutrient profiles in the shallow pore water columns (upper 30 cm depth) of intertidal sandflats, we measured the salinity and nutrient concentrations in pore water and seawater at various coastal environments along the southern coast of Korea. In the intertidal zone, salinity and nutrient concentrations in pore water showed marked vertical changes with depth, owing to the active exchange between the pore water and overlying seawater, while they are temporally more stable and vertically constant in the sublittoral zone. In some cases, the advective flow of fresh groundwater caused strong vertical gradients of salinity and nutrients in the upper 10 cm depth of surface sediments, indicating the active mixing of the fresher groundwater with overlying seawater. Such upper pore water column profiles clearly signified the temporal fluctuation of lower-salinity and higher-Si seawater intrusion into pore water in an intertidal sandflat near the mouth of an estuary. We also observed a semimonthly fluctuation of pore water nutrients due to spring-neap tide associated recirculation of seawater through the upper sediments. Our study shows that the exchange of water and nutrients between shallow pore water and overlying seawater is most active in the upper 20 cm layer of intertidal sandflats, due to physical forces such as tides, wave set-up, and density-thermal gradient.
In this study, the hydrodynamic characteristics of various types of jack-up legs for a wind turbine installation vessel were analyzed. Using the modified Morison equation, the wave and current excitation forces on the jack-up legs were calculated. A modal analysis was performed to predict the dynamic responses for various types of jack-up legs. The Newmark-beta time integration scheme was used to solve the equation of motion in waves in the time domain. The maximum displacement and maximum bending stress were computed for four different types of legs, and their results were compared to select an optimum leg type. Finally, a six-leg jack-up rig with the selected optimal legs was modeled, and its natural period and hydrodynamic behaviors were evaluated.

The paper provides some developments of a numerical approach ("Numerical Calculation of Flow Within Armour Units", FWAU) to the design of rubble mound breakwaters. The hydrodynamics of wave induced flow within the interstices of concrete blocks is simulated by making use of advanced, but well tested, CFD techniques to integrate RANS equations. While computationally very heavy, FWAU is gaining ground, due to its obvious advantages over the "porous media", i.e. the possibility of accounting for the highly non stationary effects, the reduced need of ad hoc calibration of filtration parameters and also - in perspective - the evaluation of hydrodynamic forces on single blocks. FWAU however is a complex technique, and in order to turn it into a practical design tool, a number of difficulties have to be overcome. The paper presents recent results about this validation, as well as insight into fluid dynamical aspects.

A moored barge alongside quay can be influenced by a nearby passing ship and its ship-generated waves. In this study, a time-domain numerical method based on a three-dimensional potential flow solver is developed to investigate the passing ship problem with a moored barge alongside quay. Potential flows around the passing ship and the moored barge alongside a quay is directly solved by using a classical finite element method. Total computational meshes including a passing ship, a moored barge and a quay is updated at each step with an efficient re-mesh algorithm. To validate the developed numerical method, a conventional ship wave problem and a passing ship problem on the open sea has been solved and the solutions are compared with the existing data. Then, a series of numerical computations were carried out to investigate the passing ship effect on a moored barge alongside quay. The characteristics of the passing ship effects are studied with varying the simulation parameters such as passing ship speed, separation distance, wall distances and waves. Focus is made on hydrodynamic forces due to the passing ship effect and its ship waves.

A spectral element method(SEM) is introduced for the vibration analysis of a rectangular plate subject to dynamic concentrated loads. First, the spectral plate element is derived from the relations between the forces and displacements along the two opposite edges of plate element. The global spectral matrix equation is then formulated by assembling two spectral plate elements so that the dynamic concentrated load is located at the connection nodal line between two plate elements. the concentrated load is then spatially Fourier transformed in the direction of the connection nodal line to transform the two-dimensional plate problem into a simplified equivalent one-dimensional beam-like problem. We may benefit from these procedures in that the spectral results from the present SEM is compared with the exact analytical solutions to prove the remarkable accuracy of the present SEM, while this is not true for conventional finite element solutions, especially at high frequency.

In this study, system modeling and dynamic analysis of crane are conducted. Especially, among many different kinds of a crane system, the issues on crane operating problems installed on the vessel are considered. As well known, marine systems including cranes are exposed to various disturbances such as vessel motions, hydrodynamic forces, wave and wind attack, etc. In order to analysis the system dynamic with environmental conditions, the authors derived the nonlinear dynamic model of offshore crane and derived a linear model which is used for designing the control system. Using the obtained nonlinear and linear models, simulations were conducted to evaluate the usefulness of the obtained models. By simulation and result evaluation, the usefulness of the linear model, which presents the dynamics, is effectively verified.
