A Standard Test Methods of Resistance to Root Penetration for Waterproofing and Rootproofing Membrane Using Green Roof System (인공지반녹화용 멤브레인 방수 및 방근재료의 방근성능 평가 방법 제안 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a standard test methods of resistance to root penetration for waterproofing and rootproofing membrane using green roof system. Green roof system is considered to be an important subject in construction industry for green growth project. At the same time, we have to consider the counterplan for protection the damage of waterproofing layer and concrete substrate from the penetration of plant root. But many kinds of materials for protection from root penetration are using in construction field. But the performance of those materials is not clear, and there is not test methods for the evaluation of performance. So in this paper, based on the research results of 4 institutes during four years and foreign cases, we made a standard test methods of resistance to root penetration for waterproofing and rootproofing membrane using green roof system. This test method deals with about environmental condition of laboratory, experimental facilities, kinds of plant, specimen of test, management methods, evaluation duration and documents, etc.

  • Cement-mixed polymer-based waterproofing materials are generally used in the form of application by mixing in the field, and it is necessary to supplement the construction ability for air bubbles and uneven coating thickness due to irregularities during construction. The final purpose of this study is to improve the waterproofing performance by adding a sheet attaching process to the composite construction rather than the single process of painting and applying the construction method when applying the polymer waterproofing material to the field. In this regard, the applicability was evaluated by examining the material, environment, and manufacturing method.

  • Urethane waterproofing materials which currently being used most commonly in the Korean domestic market have high applicability and construct layers without forming any joints, but under the influence of low temperature and low humidity, as well as the thickness of the applied layer, the curing time of this material may become extended in construction sites. To resolve these issues, a proposed method of using water-hardening type of polyurethane waterproofing materials are being developed. However, there currently lacks any standards or evaluation methods on determining an optimal mixture ratio of water for the water-hardening polyurethane waterproofing materials. Therefore, for the establishment of a board applicability of the water-hardening polyurethane waterproofing methods in construction sites, this study objectively analyzes the changes in the performance of these materials depending on the changes of the water mixture ratio and attempts to procure the optimal ratio on the basis of forming a provisionary standard.

  • KS standards mostly relate to single component material evaluation, so in cases of underground structure environments, most cannot predict the existing composite forms of deterioration, resulting in the applied waterproofing materials becoming unable to respond to these damaging factors. Current domestic waterproofing market in Korea mainly uses single-ply waterproofing materials comprised of coatings or waterproof sheets and two or more-ply composite waterproofing methods. In order to evaluate these types of composite waterproofing systems, a new test equipment and method that incorporates various deterioration conditions (joint displacement, chemical exposure, water pressure etc) was developed. In a comparison testing, the results showed that flexible type materials have higher response performance towards joint displacement than the hardened material.

  • It is socially increasing the need to maintenance of building's durability and management for building's safety. It has happened in waterproofing field, especially in case of water leakage in expansion joint and cracks, lacking basic design for waterproofing. After the completed of construction, there are many troubles something like this. Therefore it need for development to prevent from water leakage, using oakum and urethane in expansion joint and cracks as a method for waterproofing.

  • A sprayable waterproofing membrane which is composed of polymer-based material is relatively easy to install due to its construction method comparing with sheet-type membranes. And a sprayable waterproofing membrane has very similar material composition to the TSL which is for a permanent support. In this study, material composition of the sprayable waterproofing membrane was changed to enhance structural properties of membrane while maintaining waterproofing performance. In order to compare with a previous research for the TSL, series of tests were performed according to the performance criteria used for permanent support material (TSL) by EFNARC (2008). From the test result, the structural performance of the sprayable waterproofing membrane considered in this study showed a performance that could be used as a permanent support material.

  • This is a double Composite Waterproofing Method of Mastic Asphalt Film ad Sheet(MAS) on concrete structure and its working method. MAS is characterized as having excellent strength and adhesion to concrete. To make a good waterproofing system, it is needed the information on the performance tests. The designer should choose a material that can be applied in almost all conditions. During their service life, Underground spaces have been keeping to dry enough for habitable or utilitarian used. This method is of use for waterproofness in various spaces.

  • In this study on the appliable Asphalt sheet of monolithic and inorganic matter waterproofing material using of field because of problem of complex waterproofing sheet. Before this cement polymer modified waterproof coating and appliable asphalt sheet of monolithic whether have stability by method of construction about all style waterproofing that evaluate to new method of construction development naturally big emphasis put and try to approach. Did performance test item first at, as a result, drew by suitable thing in all KS items. This is considered to have more effective spot construction work because if means that have stability by material as well as method of construction.

  • Although the introduction of new materials and new construction methods and overseas materials has become more active due to the diversification of the construction market, the quality standards of waterproofing methods in Korea are insufficient. In particular, the quality control standard is applied to the KS F 2622:08 (Membrane Waterproofing layer performance test method), which is the existing standard, to prepare standards for quality control of waterproof materials, which is increased in Korea.
