  • In this study, two biodegradable polymer(PLA, PBS) emulsions were treated on agricultural packaging paper such as fruit bagging paper. Water-repellency, mechanical properties, and SEM image with thermal aging were measured on the emulsion treated fruit bagging paper. Biodegradable polymers(such as poly lactic acid, poly butylene succinate) emulsion treated fruit bagging paper had higher water-repellency and strength than other water-repellent(such as acrylic repellent, linseed oil and paraffin wax) treated fruit bagging paper. According to FE-SEM results of polymer emulsion coated fruit bagging paper, the colloidal particles of emulsion after thermal treatment (looks like being) were adhered to the fibers. Thus, using biodegradable polymer emulsion is expected to protect a fruit for a long time.

  • A non-fluorinated polystearyl methacrylate water repellent was synthesized by emulsion polymerization. The number and weight averaged molecular weights were obtained at around 137,277 and 237,754g/mole. The melting point was observed at $32^{\circ}C$. The contact angle of water droplet on fabrics treated with the water repellent was $140{\sim}145^{\circ}$ for cotton and polyester, and $125{\sim}130^{\circ}$ for wool and nylon. Since the critical surface tension was estimated at 20.7mN/m, even though relatively not so strong as fluorinated water repellent, it is considered to be used as a good water repellent practically.

  • Recently, the protection of construction is demanded with environmental pollution. These protect modes are use of concrete admixture, coat of protective polymer and impregnate of surface with chemicals etc. The most widely used impregnation is economical and effective. The define of Impregnation for construction protect is reacted in and consolidated substrate after absorbed. The impregnation agents are Polyesters, Acrylic monomers, Epoxy and Silicone derivatives. Commonly, because the Silane has good water repellency and environmental advantages that it widely used to water proofing agents, dampproofing agents and absorption reducer for concrete of bridges. When application of Silane, it occurs pollution and harmfulness as included organic solvent. The manufactures have tired to emulsification of Silane for the reducing of the defects. The Silane emulsion is vary unstable and does not stored long periods, and it is diminished in good properties with internal reaction. In this study we tried to emulsification of Silane for effectiveness improvement and reduce pollution and hazard and discussed properties variation of emulsion. The Silane emulsions are achieved emulsifying with W/O and O/W type surfactants. It used 0.24% PVA as protective colloid and stable phase is creamy. The creamy Silane emulsion performance as the penetration depth and water absorption rate are above 4 mm and below 0.1. It stable about 6 month at room temperature.

  • Silicone oil has organic and inorganic properties, and its skeleton is polysiloxane bonding that silicon is bonded hydrogen or organic group. Silicone compounds are very smooth and lubricant properties by low surface tension, low temperature dependence, and nonadhesive properties. Because of these properties, silicone compounds are used as many parts of chemicals, softener, smooth and libricant agents, water-repellent agent, and defoaming agent, etc. Emulsion was prepared with the inversion emulsification method which adopted the agent-in-oil method dissolving the polyoxyethylene(7) tridecyl ether(HLB 12.2) into methoxy terminated poly(dimethyl-co-methyl amino) siloxane and hydroxy terminated poly(dimethyl-co-methyl amino) siloxane in water. At this time, processed emulsion was almost microemulsion. When ratio of emulsifier increases, emulsion is stable bacuause microemulsion is solubilized by emulsion drop size and zeta-potential are decreased. But, when amount of electrolyte is increase, emulsion became unstable because emulsion drop size is increased.

  • In this study, dimethyl silicone oil and liquid paraffin were combined and subsequently emulsified; the resulting mixture was innovatively incorporated into desulfurized gypsum to resolve its drawback of a poor water resistance. The waterproof mechanism of the composite emulsion and liquid paraffin emulsion with mass fractions of 1%, 2%, 3%, and 4% were investigated. The effect of the desulfurized gypsum on the waterproof performance and basic mechanical properties were also investigated. The configuration of the composite waterproofing agent was characterized by FTIR and 1HNMR. The results showed that, compared with the traditional liquid paraffin emulsion-based waterproofing agent, the softening coefficient of the silicone oil paraffin composite emulsion-based water-repellent agent was increased by 60% and attained a value of 0.89. Combined with the waterproof mechanism and microscope morphology analysis of gypsum hydration products, the improvement in the water resistance of water resistance was primarily attributed to the formation of a silicone hydrophobic membrane between the crystals of the gypsum block; this ensured that water could not penetrate the crystal.

  • A series of terpolymers based on stearyl methacrylate (SMA), n-methyol acrylamide (n-MAM), and 2-(perfluorooctyl) ethyl acrylate (PFOEA) were synthesized by changing PFOEA contents up to 8 wt% in order to obtain optimal water-repellent properties. In addition, various contents of m-isopropenyl-${\alpha}$,${\alpha}^{\prime}$-dimethylbenzyl isocyanate (TMI) from 1 to 4 wt% were added to the above terpolymers with 4 wt% of PFOEA content. The emulsion polymerization was carried out using tridecyl alcohol (EO)7 (TDA-7) as a nonionic surfactant, alkyl dimethyl amine derivatives (ADAD) as a cationic surfactant, and 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane dihydrochoride) (AAPDL) as an initiator. The synthesized copolymers were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopies, contact angle, surface energy, and water-repellency. Surface and thermal properties were analyzed by SEM, TGA, and DSC. It was found that water repellency increased with increasing the contents of PFOEA and TMI.

  • Carbon cloth was impregnated into PTFE emulsion. PTFE is a fluoropolymer used as a coating material in various fields due to its hydrophobicity and excellent mechanical properties. In this study, PTFE emulsion was prepared different particle size of 5~500 nm and $3{\sim}5{\mu}m$. FE-SEM and FT-IR spectroscopy were used microscopic observation and investigation of chemical structure change after PTFE coating. Mass variations, gas permeability and water contact angles were analyzed to determine a GDL performance of PTFE coated carbon cloth. PTFE coated carbon cloth show different mass increase according as PTFE concentration and the number of coating times. Water contact angle of PTFE coated carbon cloth was not effected by size of PTFE particle and the number of coating time; meanwhile, gas permeability was rapidly changed at carbon cloth coated by emulsion with size of $3{\sim}5{\mu}m$ PTFE particle.

  • Lithography like off-set printing is processed using the repellent properties between water and oil, so all inks for off-printing must work with dampening solution(water). The dampening water may cause the emulsification of ink by the printing pressure in the printing nip. This study aimed to investigate the effect of emulsified inks on print mottle. The cyan ink was emulsified artificially with the different IPA(isopropyl alcohol) content in this study. We evaluated the print mottle by densitometer and image analysis method. The print mottle phenomenon was directly affected by IPA content. The emulsification of inks also had an influence on flow properties of inks and it increased ink transfer rate. It, however, caused low ink density. Moreover the emulsified inks were spreaded to around dots and cause the thinning density on the non-printing area like print mottle. The trial printing showed that the emulsified inks also cause scumming on the printing result with little mistake of adjusting dampening solution and mostly decreasing dot reproduction. We could, therefore, find out the obvious effect of emulsified inks on print mottle.

  • The aim of this paper is to improve durability of cement paste by imparting hydrophobicity to the surface and sphere of cement-based materials. A cement paste mixed with a silane/siloxane-based water repellent, and the initial hydration performance, flow performance, and age-specific compressive strength were measured. In addition, the water contact angle, SEM, and XRD before and after surface polishing were measured. When 0.5% of the silane/siloxane-based water repellent was mixed into the cement paste, the compressive strength increased, but the compressive strength decreased as the mixing amount increased by 1.5% and 3.0%. When a silane/siloxane water repellent was incorporated into the cement paste, the hydrophilicity was improved and the contact angle was increased due to hydrophobicity. In addition, the contact angle after surface polishing was found to be larger than the contact angle before surface polishing.

  • For developing the durable eco-concrete, water-repellent and hydrophobic emulsion were prepared by stirring and mixing polymethyl hydrosiloxane and polyvinyl alcohol. After adding the PMHS emulsion cement paste, the hydration reaction characteristics and the change in chemical composition were analyzed through BSE and EDS analysis, and the micropores were evaluated by MIP test. Cement mixed with PMHS emulsion was analyzed to increase the hydration reactivity and to decrease the capillary porosity, but it was found that the capillary porosity varies depending on the degree of dispersion of the emulsion in the cement paste. In the case of the emulsion containing metakaolin, there was little difference in hydration degree and porosity from the case of using only the PMHS emulsion. However, when the cement surface was coated with PMHS emulsion, the contact angle was found to increase significantly compared to OPC, and it was analyzed that especially when PVA fiber was used together, it changed to a hypohydrophobic surface.
