  • This study examined the effect of binder-to-soil ratio(B/S) and water-to-binder ratio(W/B) on the flow and compressive strength development of soil concrete using high-volume supplementary cementitious materials. As a partial replacement of ordinary portland cement, 10% by-pass dust, 40% ground granulated blast-furnace slag, and 25% circulating fluidized bed combustion fly ash were determined in the preliminary tests. Using the low-cement binder incorporated with clay soil or sandy soil, a total of 18 soil concrete mixtures was prepared. The flow of the soil concrete tended to increase with the increase in W/B and B/S, regardless of the type of soils. The compressive strength was commonly higher in sandy soil concrete than in clay soil concrete with the same mixture condition. Considering the high-workability and compressive strength development, it could be recommended for low-cement soil concrete to be mixed under the following condition: B/S of 0.35 and W/B of 175%.

  • This research presents the results of the strength and drying shrinkage properties to study the effect of ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBFS), fly ash(FA) and calcium sulfoaluminate(CSA) for activated ternary blended slag cement. The activated ternary blended cement(ATBC) mortar were prepared having a constant water-cementitious materials ratios of 0.4. The GGBFS contents ratios of 100%, 80%, 70% and 60%, FA replacement ratios of 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%, CSA ratios of 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% were designed. The superplasticizer of polycarboxylate type were used. The activator was used of 10% sodium hydroxide(NaOH) + 10% sodium silicate($Na_2SiO_3$) by weight of binder. Test were conducted for mini slump, setting time, V-funnel, water absorption, compressive strength and drying shrinkage. According to the experimental results, the contents of superplasticizer, V-funnel and compressive strength increases with an increase in CSA contents for all mixtures. Moreover, the setting time, water absorption ratios and drying shrinkage ratio decrease with and increase in CSA. One of the major reason for the increase of strength and decrease of drying shrinkage is the accelerated reactivity of GGBFS with alkali activator and CSA. The CSA contents is the main parameter to explain the strength development and decreased drying shrinkage in the ATBC.

  • Humidity and strain were estimated for understanding the relation between humidity change by self-desiccation and shrinkage in high-performance concrete with low water binder ratio and containing fly ash and blast furnace slag. Internal humidity change and shrinkage strain were about 10%, 10%, 7%, 11%, 11% and $320{\times}10^{-6}$, $270{\times}10^{-6}$, $231{\times}10^{-6}$, $371{\times}10^{-6}$, $350{\times}10^{-6}$ respectively on OPC30, O30F10, O30F20, O30G40, O30G50 and from the results, fly ash made humidity change and strain decrease but slag increase comparing with ordinary portland cement. Considering only relation internal humidity and shrinkage by self-desiccation, humidity change and shrinkage represented the strong linear relation regardless of mineral admixture. For specifying the relation on internal humidity change and autogenous shrinkage strain, shrinkage model was established which is driven by capillary pressure in pore water and surface energy in hydrates on the assumption of a single network and extended meniscus in pore system of concrete. This model and experimental results had a similar tendency so it would be concluded that the internal humidity change by self-desiccation in HPC originated in small pores less than 20nm, therefore controlling plan on autogenous shrinkage might be focused on surface tension of water and degree of saturation in small pore.

  • Blended cement with fly ash and bottom ash from Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustor boiler(CFBC) burned at a low temperature, can be high heat of hydration and abnormal setting caused by higher volumn contents of Fe2O3, free-CaO, SO3. In this study, the ground CFBC bottom ash powder mixed with blast furnace slag was used as substitute activator of gypsum and recycled iron slag was produced from mix and pulverized by ball mill to increase the recycling rate. The effect on compressive strength of cements with the mixture of original and hydrated bottom ash mixtures with BFS with small water, respectively, was analyzed, and it was found that the hydrated bottom ash activator was more effective in initial strength development. To improve the initial strength of blended cement, an activator mixed with a blast furnace slag and bottom ash mixing ratio of 5:95 and 10:90, respectively, the slag cement by about 6%, and it was analyzed to develop an initial strength similar to gypsum as a conventional activator.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the salt water resistance of concrete depending on various types of cement. In this regard, 5 types of concrete were selected and their strength, void ratio and chloride ion diffusion characteristics were tested, and mutual correlation were analyzed. From the test results, the compressive strength and void ratio of concrete which using Type V cement was as good as Type I cement at long-term ages but the chloride diffusion coefficient of Type V cement was larger than Type I cement. And the concrete replacing some portion of the Type I cement with fly ash was superior in the cases of compressive strength, void ratio and the resistance of chloride ion permeation compared to the Type I cement with the lapse of ages. On the other hand, the compressive strength, the void ratio and the chloride diffusion coefficient of the concrete all indicated high levels of the correlation coefficient and the coefficient of determination regardless of the type of cement.

  • In this study, the relationship between the material properties and air permeability characteristics was examined, an experimental method to analyze the air permeability characteristics was presented, and experimental results were derived. The effects of compressive strength and apparent density of hardened concrete on air permeability characteristics were evaluated experimentally. Focusing on the mix proportions used in nuclear power plant concrete structures, concrete test specimens were manufactured and air permeability characteristics were measured according to changes in binder, maximum aggregate size, and water-binder ratio. The apparent density was over 2,400 kg/m3 for the OPC mix and the FA-35 mix, and the air permeability for both mixes were low, in the range of 0.1-0.2 L/min. On the other hand, in the case of the combination of FA-40, FA-45, and FA-M, the apparent density was measured to be less than 2,400 kg/m3 and the air permeability was measured to be more than 0.3 L/min, experimentally verifying that the apparent density is an important factor in air permeability characteristics.

  • In this paper, four formulas are proposed via gene expression programming (GEP)-based models and regression analysis (RA) to predict the flexural strength ($f_s$) values of mortars containing different mineral admixtures that are ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS), silica fume (SF) and fly ash (FA) at different ages. Three formulas obtained from the GEP-I, GEP-II and GEP-III models are constituted to predict the $f_s$ values from the age of specimen, water-binder ratio and compressive strength. Besides, one formula obtained from the RA is constituted to predict the $f_s$ values from the compressive strength. To achieve these formulas in the GEP and RA models, 972 data of the experimental studies presented with mortar mixtures were gathered from the literatures. 734 data of the experimental studies are divided without pre-planned for these formulas achieved from the training and testing sets of GEP and RA models. Beside, these formulas are validated with 238 data of experimental studies un-employed in training and testing sets. The $f_s$ results obtained from the training, testing and validation sets of these formulas are compared with the results obtained from the experimental studies and the formulas given in the literature for concrete. These comparisons show that the results of the formulas obtained from the GEP and RA models appear to well compatible with the experimental results and find to be very credible according to the results of other formulas.

  • This research is to examine the selected method of optimal mixing proportion and cost analysis in the super flowing concrete. As confined water $ratio($\beta_p$)$ and K is introduced, itis to establish optimal mixing design of super flowing concrete according to the steps of paste, mortar and concrete. From paste and mortar test, it was led to $$\beta_p$$ and $K_p$satisfying the optimum condions depending on the kinds of binders. Then $$\beta_p$$ and $K_p$ is reflected to the mix condition of super flowing concrete. The result of test, the mix condition of super flowing concrete satisfied the quality performance of concrete with adjustment of additional rate of the superplasticizer. Besides, in case of design strength $350kg/\textrm{cm}^2$ of concrete, material cost in super flowing concrete is able to be reduced 5~16% in replacement of fly ash 30% in ordinary portland cement and slag cement.

  • This study uses recycled green building materials based on a Taiwan-made recycled mineral admixture (including fly ash, slag, glass sand and rubber powder) as replacements for fine aggregates in concrete and tests the properties of the resulting mixtures. Fine aggregate contents of 5% and 10% were replaced by waste LCD glass sand and waste tire rubber powder, respectively. According to ACI concrete-mixture design, the above materials were mixed into lightweight aggregate concrete at a constant water-to-binder ratio (W/B = 0.4). Hardening (mechanical), non-destructive and durability tests were then performed at curing ages of 7, 28, 56 and 91 days and the engineering properties were studied. The results of these experiments showed that, although they vary with the type of recycling green building material added, the slumps of these admixtures meet design requirements. Lightweight aggregate yields better hardened properties than normal-weight concrete, indicating that green building materials can be successfully applied in lightweight aggregate concrete, enabling an increase in the use of green building materials, the improved utilization of waste resources, and environmental protection. In addition to representing an important part of a "sustainable cycle of development", green building materials represent a beneficial reutilization of waste resources.
