A rainwater harvesting device was developed for runoff flow harvesting in a small stream or channel and its performance was evaluated in small fields. The rainwater harvesting device has slits on its side of cylindrical volume in 15 cm diameter and 70 cm length, which is designed to increase its water flow harvesting capacity. The maximum collectable water quantity was about 0.0022 ton/sec (130 L/min). Rainwater harvesting device were installed in two locations (P1, P2). P1 is a point for rainfall runoff flow harvesting. P2 is a point for ordinary flow harvesting. During this study, total rainfall depth was 334.5 mm. Runoff of 1,722 ton and 7,984 ton occurred in P1 and P2, and 273 ton and 125 ton were collected by this rainwater harvesting device. Harvesting efficiency was calculated as 15.85 % and 1.57 % in P1 and P2. Clogging of screen filter media in the cylinder due to soil and suspended solids has lowered the harvesting efficiency. However, it was possible to harvest 30 ton/month of rainwater harvesting and it is expected that it will help to solve short-term water shortage.
This research was performed to screen the cytotoxic activities of some pharmaceutical insect relatives. Cytotoxic activities of total extract and fractions of hexane, ethyl acetate, methanol, water and boiling water were extracted from four pharmaceutical insect relatives: the Chinese gall, the cicada slough, the hornet nest and the batryticated silkworm. These extracts were investigated against the cancer cell lines of L1210, P388 and SNU-1 in vitro tests. Results showed that, ED, , against the cancer cell lines of L1210, P388 and SNU-1 were 0.55, 0.50, and $0.83{\mu}g/ml$ in the ethyl acetate fraction from the Chinese gall; 1.07, 2.19, and $2.24{\mu}g/ml$in the ethyl acetate fraction, 1.51, 1.26, and $1.45{\mu}g/ml$ in the water fraction and 1.48, 2.29, and $1.29{\mu}g/ml$in the boiling water fraction from the cicada slough; 3.31, 2.00, and $6.61\mug/ml$ in the water fraction from the hornet nest and 13.80, 19.95, and $31.62{\mu}g/ml$in the hexane fraction and 33.88, 21.88, and $25.12{\mu}g/ml$in the ethyl acetate fraction from the batryticated silkworm, respectively. All of the fractions mentioned above showed high cytotoxic activities and could be suggested for further studies in vivo tests.
Surface mount technology is the biggest theme in the area of deιIronic component. To miniatunze an electronic component, s such as ferrite chip inductor, the cer뼈lic wet process for green-sheet lamination and/or screen printing method through a s solvent medium system is widely used. The preparation and characterization of NiCuZn Ferrite (NCZF) shurry and the green s sheet using the water mixed binder system has been studied. The 21 vol% of NCZF slurry was prepared by a ball milling. The p polyacrylic vinyl copolymer (Mw; 60,000) was used as a binder. Th$\xi$ mixture of distilled water, isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and 2l butoxy ethanol was used as a dispersion medium. The water content of medium varied from about 40% to 80%. As the results. Thc disp$\xi$rston stability of the NCZF slurry was attributed to the free polymer rather than the electrostatic force of the particle. T The viscosity of the NCZF slurry was greatly depended on the ratio of water content in the medium.

As the development of ICT technology, in order to solve the problem of scattered water information's availability, WINS(Water management Information Networking System) by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport was established and has been operated since 2004. However, there has been a disadvantage of providing specialized and limited information to the water resources sector mainly and a lack of active sharing of information because of no compulsory provision of information sharing between participants. In order to solve these problems, this paper carried out system development study, to do this, the status of domestic water information was surveyed and domestic and overseas related systems were compared and analyzed. The latest ICT technology was used to realize the contents as screen, and the user interface definition was created to present a role model of integrated water management through maximizing visualization by combining GIS and realtime data and providing space-time integrated information. These prior studies reached to actual construction of the ICT-based integrated management system for water information by K-water. This system is in service to the public installed in the water information portal, "MyWater".
Deep rooting, which enables plants to extract water from greater soil depths, is a critical strategy for improving plant survival under water-deficient conditions. However, as it is difficult to observe intact root systems belowground, several techniques have been developed to screen deep- and shallow-rooting phenotypes in rice. Here, we introduce a simple and convenient method for deep- and shallow-rooting phenotyping using a unique combination of sand, soil, and plastic mesh netting. Vandana, a drought-tolerant rice variety, and Dongjin, a Korean japonica rice variety, were used to analyze root phenotypes. No significant differences in root length were observed in rice grown under irrigated conditions regardless of net position, whereas roots were significantly longer, and ratio of deep root (RDR) values were significantly higher in Vandana rice grown under semi-drought conditions. In summary, this simple and useful method represents a low-cost means of phenotyping the roots of rice and other crops grown in various-sized pots and at multiple plant growth stages.
Environmental hazards of a chemical could be assessed by two different approaches : toxicity test and assessment of exposure potentials to human and environmental organisms. For the prediction of environmental fate of chemicals three available computer programs were compared each other and were verified. The results obtained by using these computer programs, PCHEM, EXAMS, and E4CHEM were summarized as follows. The estimated octanol/water partition coefficients by PCHEM were similar to the experimental values in the literature. But the other factors, water solubility and vapor pressure were different from the data in the literature. The simulation results of selected compounds by EXAMS showed similar tendency to the literature results of model field environment. Therefore, this computer program could be utilized to predict the environmental fate of chemicals. E4CHEM program is very simple and this program could predict the ultimate environmental fate of stable chemicals by input of two or three parameters. However, the validity should further be verified in the future field study using more compounds. It is suggested that these approaches could be fully utilized by understanding their limitations to predict the environmental fate of new chemicals under development, to screen the potential environmental pollutants among chemicals already-in use, and to devise measures to minimize the hazards to the environment.
Since a bubble in water is a highly nonlinear acoustic scatterer, the acoustic scattered waves from underwater bubbles show highly nonlinear acoustic properties. These acoustic scattered waves can be observed at the second or higher harmonics as well as at the fundamental primary frequency of incident acoustic wave. When two primary acoustic waves of different frequencies are incident on a bubble, the acoustic scattered waves can be also observed at the sum and the difference frequencies of the primary waves. In this study, when the two primary acoustic waves were incident on a bubble screen in water, we observed that the amplitude of difference frequency wave was amplified by the bubble nonlinearity and its directivity was oriented in the propagation directions of primary waves. The directivity of scattered difference frequency wave was analyzed as a coherent scattering for virtual source by using the directivity of the primary acoustic wave.

The gas ventilated by supercavitation splits into smaller bubbles and follows the water passage of the cavitation tunnel. The bubbles quickly return to the test section by rather high speed flow, and interrupt the observation of the supercavitation. To secure clear observation in the test section, the bubble collecting section(settling chamber) of large volume is prepared to collect bubbles in the water passage ahead of the test section. The bubble collecting section should provide enough buoyancy effect to the bubbles for proper bubble collecting. However, rather high-speed oncoming flow produces non-uniform velocity distribution and deteriorates buoyancy effect in the bubble collecting section. In the present study, the bubble collecting space and three porous plates are designed and analyzed through numerical methods, and the bubble collecting function is experimentally validated by 1/10-scaled model in terms of the formation of uniformly low velocity distribution in the bubble collecting section.
This study was performed to screen antimicrobial activities of 198 extracts from 66 Korean mushrooms against 19 human pathogenic microorganisms using paper disc method. Mushrooms were extracted with petroleum ether 80% ethanol and distilled water in that order Among the extracts with antimicrobial activities, 1 water extract of Amanita virgineoides, 8 ethanolic extracts including Amanita and 1 petroleum ether extrac of Psathyrella hydrophila were highly active against fungi, respectively. In addition to, 24 extracts including Amanita pseudoporphyria, Amanita spissacea, 3 extaracts including Paxillus curtisii were highly active against Gram negative and positive bacteria, respectively.
Two 1-year old calves of Korean Native cattle (Hanwoo) presented cutaneous papillomas on the face and neck. Type 2 bovine papillomavirus (BPV-2) was identified in the cutaneous papillomas based on BPV-specific PCR and subsequent DNA sequencing analysis results. Using DNA samples extracted from two affected calves and unaffected animals reared in the same stable, BPV-2 was not only detected in the cutaneous papillomas of affected animals based on BPV-specific PCR analysis, but also detected in normal skins, hairs, and their environments based on nested PCR analysis. BPV-2 was also detected in DNA samples isolated from animals and environments of that distinct stable with affected calves. However, no BPV-2 was detected in the drinking water of both stables (infected and unaffected). These findings concluded that BPV-2 was transmitted by direct or indirect contact, not by drinking water. This is the first report to show molecular evidence of BPV-2 infection. Rapid and precise molecular identification can be used to screen BPV-2 in cattle farms to understand the biological roles of BPV in animal diseases.
