Recently, many types of constructional steels have been often exposed to under severe corrosive environments due to acid rain with increasing environmental contamination. In order to inhibit their corrosion in severe corrosive environments, a painting method has been widely applied to numerous constructional steels of land as well as marine. Therefore, development of paint having a good quality of corrosion resistance is considered to be very important. In this study, four types of anti-corrosive paints (AP: Phenol epoxy, AC: Ceramic epoxy, AT: Coal tar epoxy, AH: High solid epoxy) were coated to the specimens, and then, were immerged in various salt solutions (0.1, 0.3, 3, 6, 9 and 15% NaCl solutions) for 11 days. And, the corrosion resistance of these samples by effect of osmotic pressure with salt concentration was investigated with electrochemical methods such as measurement of corrosion potential, impedance and corrosion current density. The corrosion current densities of all samples (AC, AT and AH) submerged in 3% NaCl solution exhibited the smallest values compared to other salt solutions. However, in the case of lower values of salt solutions than 3% NaCl solution, the corrosion current density increased again because it makes easier for water, dissolved oxygen and chloride ion etc. to invade toward inner side of coating film due to increasing of the osmotic pressure than 3% NaCl solution, but in the case of higher values of salt solutions than 3% NaCl solution, the coating film is easily deteriorated due to high concentration of chloride ion rather than the osmotic pressure, which resulted in increasing the corrosion current density. In particular, the AC sample indicated the best corrosion resistance in 6% NaCl solution compared to other samples. Consequently, it is considered that the corrosion mechanism of the coated steel plate is completely different from bare steel plate, and the corrosion resistance of coating film by osmotic pressure and chloride ion depend on various types of epoxy of paint in NaCl solution.
The purpose of this study was to compare microleakage and marginal hybrid layer in class V restorations using two one-bottle adhesives and one self-etching adhesive. Class V cavity preparations with occlusal margins in enamel and gingival margins in dentin were pre-pared on buccal and lingual surfaces of 30 extracted human molar teeth. Prepared teeth were randomly divided into three treatment groups (n=30) and restored with three adhesives and composites: Single Bond/Filtek Z-250 (Group 1), Prime&BondNT/Esthet.X (Group 2), UniFil Bond/UniFil F (Group 3). For microleakage, samples were stored in room temperature water for 24 hours, thermocycled stained with 2% methylene blue dye, sectioned into halves, scored and analysed using Mann-whitney test and Wilcoxon signed rank sum test. For marginal hybrid layer, samples were sectioned into halves, treated with 10% phosphoric acid for 5 seconds, stored in 5% NaOCL solution for 24 hours, dried and gold coated. Occlusal and gingival margins of each sample were inspected under SEM. The results of this study were as follows ; 1. Microleakage at the occlusal margins was not evident in group 1 and group 2, but it showed in group 3 (p<0.05). 2. Microleakage in group 1 and group 3 was significantly lower than in group 2 at gingival margins (p<0.05). 3. Microleakage at gingival margins was greater than at occlusal margins in group 1 and group 2, but microleakage at occlusal margins was greater than at gingival margins in group 3 (p<0.05). 4. In group 1 and group 2, no gaps at occlusal margins showed. But gaps showed in group 3. Occlusal margins were free from a hybrid layer in all groups 5. The thickness of the marginal hybrid layers was 2.5~5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thick in group 5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thick in group 2 and 1.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thick in group 3. 6 There was no corelation between microleakage and thickness of marginal hybrid layer. In coclusion, the effect of dentin adhesives on microleakge in class V composite restorations was excellent when one-bottle adhesives were applied on enamel margin, and it was good when a self-etching adhesive was applied on dentinal margin. There was no corelation between microleakage and thickness of marginal hybrid layer.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of garlic extracts on electron donating ability nitrite-scavenging activity and N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) formation. Content of total phenolic compounds was the highest in ethyl acetate extract. Electron donating ability was significantly increased with increasing sample concentration, as $88.0{\pm}1.53%$ from ethyl acetate extract and $77.5{\pm}0.8%$ from butanol extract in concentration of 10 mg/mL. Butanol extract from garlic with highest nitrite scavenging activity and inhibition effect of NDMA formation exhibited $96.9{\pm}0.75%$ and $68.6{\pm}1.15%$ in concentration of 10 mg/mL, respectively. The butanol extract was fractionated into 5 fractions using prep-LC. Nitrite-scavenging activity and inhibition effect of NDMA formation were excellent in fraction III, which further fractioned into 3 subfractions (III-a, III-b and III-c) using prep-LC. Of the 3 subfractions, its activity was the highest in the subfraction III-c. Therefore butanol extract of garlic was suggested to be effective inhibitor of NDMA formation.
The main pathological hallmark of Alzheimer's disease is the deposition of amyloid-beta ($A{\beta}$) peptides in the brain. $A{\beta}$ has been widely used to mimic several aspects of Alzheimer's disease. However, several characteristics of amyloid-induced Alzheimer's disease pathology are not well established, especially in mice. The present study aimed to develop a new Alzheimer's disease model by investigating how $A{\beta}$ can be effectively aggregated using prokaryotes and eukaryotes. To express the $A{\beta}42$ complex in HEK293 cells, we cloned the $A{\beta}42$ region in a tandem repeat and incorporated the resulting construct into a eukaryotic expression vector. Following transfection into HEK293 cells via lipofection, cell viability assay and western blotting analysis revealed that exogenous $A{\beta}42$ can induce cell death and apoptosis. In addition, recombinant His-tagged $A{\beta}42$ was successfully expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) and not only readily formed $A{\beta}$ complexes, but also inhibited the proliferation of SH-SY5Y cells and E. coli. For in vivo testing, recombinant His-tagged $A{\beta}42$ solution ($3{\mu}g/{\mu}l$ in $1{\times}PBS$ containing $1mM\;Ni^{2+}$) was injected stereotaxically into the left and right lateral ventricles of the brains of C57BL/6J mice (n = 8). Control mice were injected with $1{\times}PBS$ containing $1mM\;Ni^{2+}$ following the same procedure. Ten days after the sample injection, the Morris water maze test confirmed that exogenous $A{\beta}$ caused an increase in memory loss. These findings demonstrated that $Ni^{2+}$ is capable of complexing the 50-kDa amyloid and that intracerebroventricular injection of $A{\beta}42$ can lead to cognitive impairment, thereby providing improved Alzheimer's disease models.
BACKGROUND: This study focused on the contents of flavonoid compounds in vegetables. Generally vegetables have contributed to a healthy diet, arisen from contains a large amount of fiber and functional ingredients. And flavonoid compounds are one of major functional components in the vegetables. currently research of flavonoid contents does not enough, specially in the part of homegrown vegetable. METHODS AND RESULTS: Vegetable samples were purchased in domestic market. Sample extraction by methanol, distilled water, and formic acid based solvent. Also same solvent used for mobile phase in UPLC. Eleven types of flavonoid compounds were analyzed with same kind of external standard and one kind of internal standard (galangin) for quantification. Standard calibration curve presented linearity with the correlation coefficient $R^2$ > 0.98, analysed from 1 to 50 ppm concentration. The quantitative value and multivariate analysis results were derived from the Excel and SIMCA-P11. Overall, onion has largest amount(916.5 mg/100 g) of flavonoid and also other vegetables have has significant amount[Mugwort: 138.8, Galic stem:123.6 mg/100 g etc.] of flavonoid compounds. Edible portion of vegetables per share for simulating by SIMCA-P11, root vegetables has had difference with other vegetables according to distributions and amounts of flavonoid compounds. CONCLUSION: Optionally, the results from this experiment can use to select the material for flavonoid researches. And based on these results, if this experiment will be continuously complemented, and performed, could used in various fields.
Spectrophotometric determination of U(VI) and Th(IV) by Flow injection method is described. Chrome Azurol S forms water soluble complexes with U(VI) and Th(IV) in the presence of cethyltrimethylammonium bromide. The maximum adsorption of U(VI) and Th(IV) complexes are at 600nm with molar absorptivity of $2.3{\times}10^5Lmol^{-1}cm^{-1}$ and 611nm with molar absorptivity of $3.8{\times}10^5Lmol^{-1}cm^{-1}$ in acetate buffer medium having pH 5.0 and 5.5. The calibration curves of U(VI) and Th(IV) are linear over the range of 0.1~0.8ppm and the correlation coefficients are ca. 0.9960 and 0.9930 respectively. The detection limits(S/N) are 20ppb for U(VI) and 15ppb for Th(IV). The relative standard deviation are ${\pm}1.8%$ for U(VI) and ${\pm}2.1%$ for Th(IV). The sample throughput was ca. $50hr^{-1}$.
The iron frame of building could be collapsed or bent at $500^{\circ}C$. Therefore the fire-resistant paint should be applied for safety. This study performed the comparative analysis to show the characteristics of fireresistant paint. And then 12 products of fire resistant paint and 6 products of paints were used as samples. And the samples were analyzed by TGA (Thermogravimetric Analyzer) as analyzer for measuring the variation of weight on temper of weight by heating. When TGA analyzer could measure the variatiature, and FT-IR was measured for analyze gas components on variation on of weight by heating on 12 products of fire resistance, the samples showed to decrease 40% of weight to $800^{\circ}C$, and because paints had 50% to 40% of loss weight, it showed to be equal with loss weight of fire resistance paint on high temperature or was lower loss weight than it of fire resistance paints. However number 6 sample of fire resistance paints could show to decrease 20% of total weight on $800^{\circ}C$. And then in the case of FT-IR, fire resistance paints could show to have the high intensity of $CO_2$ spectrum as complete combustion. However paints could show to have the lower intensity of $CO_2$ spectrum, have the higher intensity of water spectrum. Therefore the TGA graph of result could be much different until $250^{\circ}C$. When it was burned, FT-IR spectrum could show to confirm the characteristics of fire resistance paints, and the characteristic could be confirmed on inorganic paint of fire resistance by weight loss of TGA.

The presence of airborne particles in the earth atmosphere expert important controls on the global climate because of their effects on the radiative balance. However, there are major uncertainties associated with the direct and indirect radiative effects of aerosols. In addition, their physicochemical properties cannot only the decline of air quality but also damage human health. Airborne particles were collected by two different commercial air samples, high volume sampler(for TSP) and low volume sampler(for P $M_{10}$ ) at the campus of Kunsan National University during February to September, 2000. In most cases, TSP and P $M_{10}$ were sampled once a week for the duration of 24 hours from 9:00 a.m. In addition samples were collected more intenisve, when the yellow dust was expected. Each sample was analyzed for pH and major ions concentration (C $l^{[-10]}$ , S $O_4$$^{2-}$, N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ , N $a^{+}$, N $H_4$$^{+}$, $K^{+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$) by ion chromatography and atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Acidity (pH) of TSP and P $M_{10}$ ranged from 5.09 to 8.51 and from 6.22 to 7.54, respectively. The concentrations of airborne particles were found to satisfy both the short and long-term air quality standards during the sampling period. If the ratio of ionic concentrations originating from None sea salt(Nss) to sea salt(ss) in aerosol samples was concerned, it was found that the ionic concentrations from marine environment contributed dominantly in total mass concentration in the airborne particles. When seasonal trends were examined, the TSP concentrations in spring were higher than those of other seasons. It may result form frequent occurrences of yellow dust and during the spring season. The concentration ratio of P $M_{10}$ to TSP ranged from 0.78 to 1 during the sampling period. pH in the airborne particle was highest during spring, but the other seasons maintained almost same level. These results suggest that alkaline species in yellow dust can directly neutralize aerosol acidity. During spring season, yellow dust could be a positive factor that can defer the acidification of surface soil and water by neutralizing acidic aerosols in the atmosphere.osphere.
Some interactions in various soil conditions, numbers of microbial populations, root rot disease development and rates of spore germiation in three different location of soils were investigated. The calcium and magnesium contents were higher in replanted fields of ginseng (Panax ginseng) at Goesan. Potassium contents were high in replanted field at Poonggi and textural class of the soils was silt loam except for silt clay loam in first cultured field of ginseng at Goesan. For the germination process of Fusarium solani, F. moniliforme, F. oxysporum, and Alternaria panax, the percentage germination of fungal spores was high in double distilled water and Pfeffer's solution as media, whereas the lower rate of germination of spores was observed in soil extracts. Numbers of bacteria were high in replanted field soil at Gumsan, and propagules of fungi in replanted fields at Gumsan and Poonggi were higher than other soils, but higher numbers of actinomycetes were found in the first cultured field of ginseng at Goesan and Poonggi. Fungistasis was induced by higher microbial populations present in soil that was initiated when amended with garlic stalk, crushed bean and ginseng leaves. On the other hand, there was no fungistasis in soil amended with wheat and barley straw, and this tendency was a little difference on the soil sample.

Culture-dependent and culture-independent denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analyses were employed to investigate the bacterial community associated with a natural dye wastewater treatment facility. A total of 104 (influent water, 48 strains; aeration tank, 25; settling tank, 31) bacterial strains were isolated. Based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences comparison analysis, the isolates belonged to four phyla: Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, and Bacteriodetes. Seventeen DGGE bands representing dominant taxa in each sample were cloned and partially sequenced. The same four phyla were detected by DGGE fingerprinting. The most dominant taxon retrieved by both methods was the member of the phylum Proteobacteria with Alphaproteobacteria as the predominant class. The bacterial community associated with the natural dye wastewater treatment facility is composed of parasites of animals and plants, decomposers of polysaccharides and dyes, and producers of extracellular polysaccharides.
