  • Urea-SCR system, the selective catalytic reduction using urea as reducing agent, is a powerful technique to reduce nitrogen oxides(NOx) emitted from diesel engines. However, a tank of urea(32.5 wt%)-water solution can be frozen in low ambient temperature levels of below $-11^{\circ}C$. The purpose of this study is to understand freezing and melting phenomena of the urea-water solution, and its can be applied to get the urea-water solution from frozen it within 5 minutes after cold start. Factors considered were the type of heater and the urea tank shape. From the results, it was found that melting volume of cartridge heater B during 5 minutes of heating period was 83ml when supplying electric power of 150W. Horizontal heater B, which was put in the narrow bottom space of the tank T1, had fast melting characteristics.

  • Urea-SCR, the selective catalytic reduction using urea as reducing agent, has been investigated for about 10 years in detail and today is a well established technique for deNOx of stationary diesel engines. In the case of the SCR-catalyst a non-uniform velocity and $NH_3$ profile will cause an inhomogeneous conversion of the reducing agent $NH_3$, resulting in a local breakthrough of $NH_3$ or increasing NOx emissions. Therefore, this work investigates the effect of flow and $NH_3$ non-uniformities on the deNOx performance and $NH_3$ slip in a Urea-SCR exhaust system. From the results of this study, it is found that flow and $NH_3$ distribution within SCR monolith is strongly related with deNOx performance of SCR catalyst. It is also found that multi-hole injector shows better $NH_3$ uniformity at the face of SCR monolith face than one hole injector.

  • Zirconium nitride powders were synthesized at a relatively lower temperature using methane as a reducing agent in the nitridation of zircoia. $ZrO_2$ powder was prepared by a sol-gel technique. The resulting sol-gel was centrifuged, and the gel was washed with deionized water. Anhydrous ammonia was used as the nitrogen source and methane was used as the reducing agent. Conversion diagrams show the equilibrium solid phase as a function of reagent concentrations for a specific temperature and gas pressure for the reagent system $NH_3-ZrO_2-CH_4$. The reagent concentration ranges within which pure ZrN is formed increase with increasing reaction temperature. Low pressure with an excess of hydrogen decreases the reaction temperature at which pure ZrN is formed. Low pressure together with the introduction of excess hydrogen into the reaction system increases Zr and N conversion efficiency and retards C deposition.

  • To developed new process for obtaining maximum molecular weight of anionic acrylamide and acrylic acid copolymer by inverse emulsion polymerization. Concentration of initiator, reducing agent, surfactant and mole ratio of acrylamide-acrylic acid were studied for the process. Semi-batch processes with method of redox, control of reaction temperature, feeding method of monomer and reaction time, was suitable for maximum molecular weight of P(AMAC) from this process obtained $3.09\;{\time}\;10^6({\bar{M}}n.)$ and $4.41\;{\time}\;10^6({\bar{M}}w.)$ in molecular weight measured by the intrinsic viscosity method. inverse emulsion polymerization mechanism of P(AMAC) does not followed the Smith-Ewart and Medvedev theory, but selected for concentration of initiator, reducing agent, surfactant, water solubility of monomer.

  • Effects of various inorganic-metal oxide (Zr, Zn, Si, Al and Ca as promoters and stabilizers) additive on the reduction rate of iron oxide and the composition of forming hydrogen using the steam-iron cycle operation was investigated. The reduction rate of redox agent with additive was determined from weight change by TGA. The changes of weight loss and reduction rate according to redox agent with various additive affected the hydrogen purity and cycle stability of the process. The cyclic micro reactor showed that hydrogen purity exceeding 95% could be obtained by the water splitting with Si/Fe, Zn/Fe, Zr/Fe redox agents. The redox agents with these elements had an affect on redox cycle stability as a good stabilizer for forming hydrogen by the steam-iron process.

  • Cysteamine has been used in cosmetics as an antioxidant, a hair straightening agent, and a hair waving agent. However, recent studies indicate that cysteamine can act as an allergen to hairdressers. The objective of this study was to develop and validate a simple and effective reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method for the measurement of cysteamine and its dimer, cystamine. Sodium 1-heptanesulfonate (NaHpSO) was used as an ion-pairing agent to improve chromatographic performance. Separation was performed on a Gemini C18 column ($250mm{\times}4.6mm$, $5{\mu}m$ particle size) using a mobile phase composed of 85:15 (v/v) 4 mM NaHpSO in 0.1% phosphoric acid:acetonitrile. UV absorbance was monitored at 215 nm. The RP-HPLC method developed in this study was validated for specificity, linearity, limit of detection, limit of quantitation, precision, accuracy, and recovery. Cysteamine and cystamine were chromatographically resolved from other reducing agents such as thioglycolic acid and cysteine. Extraction using water and chloroform resulted in the recovery for cysteamine and cystamine ranging from 100.2-102.7% and 90.6-98.7%, respectively. This validated RP-HPLC method would be useful for quality control and monitoring of cysteamine and cystamine in cosmetics.

  • Large amount of binders and high-range AE water-reducing (HRWR) agent are required for self-consolidating concrete in order to achieve flowability and segregation resistance. In this study, the initial permeability of SSC(self-consolidating concrete) until the age of 28 days is measured and compared with those of other SSCs, in which some parts of cement are substituted with fly ash or blast furnace slag. The strengths of SSC samples are also examined along with the permeability change.

  • Corrosion control, in the end-shield cooling system of Wolsung Nuclear Power Plant, is directly related to the control of dissolved oxygen (DO). The current method, being used to deoxygenate the end-shield cooling water, is a chemical treatment by addition of reducing agent, hydrazine, to react with DO. This method has several limitations including high reaction temperature of hydrazine , unwanted explosive hydrogen gas production, and its intrinsic harmful property. A new approach to remove DO using a membrane-based oxygen removal system (MORS) was tried to overcome limitations of the hydrazine treatment. The DO removal efficiency of the MORS was found to be in the range 87% to 98%: The higher vacuum, the lower water flow rate and the higher water temperature tend to increase the DO removal efficiency.

  • The effect of propylene oxide, butylene oxide, furan resin, and vinylpyrrolidinone in controlling wood dimensional stability have been examined. Wood in the green or ovendry condition was treated with various chemical treatments using a vacuum-pressure procedure, and treated specimens were tested for tangential sweelling, moisture gain, and changes in sorption hysteresis. Results' indicate that propylene oxide, and butylene oxide enhanced with the crosslin king agent trimethylol propane trimethacrylate and applied to ovendry wood were the most efficient chemical treatments in controlling tangential sweeling caused by liquid water or water vapor, and in reducing water vapor adsorption. The sorption behavior of treated wood as depicted by the ratios of sorption was "very favorable" in most instances. In the particular case of furan resin treatments, ratios of sorption were improved from 25 to 100 percent as compared to those of untreated wood.

  • In this study, experimental tests of chemical and autogenous shrinkage were performed to evaluate the early age shrinkage behaviors of ultra high performance cementitious composites (UHPCC) with various replacement ratios of silica fume (SF), shrinkage reducing agent (SRA), expansive admixture (EA), and superplasticizer (SP). Starting time of self-desiccation, was analyzed by comparing the setting times and the deviated point of chemical and autogenous shrinkage strains. The test results indicated that both SF and SRA augment the early age chemical shrinkage, whereas SP delays the hydration reaction between cement particles and water, and reduces chemical shrinkage. About 49% of autogenous shrinkage was depleted by synergetic effect of SRA and EA. The hardening of UHPCC was catalyzed by containing EA. Self-desiccation of UHPCC occurred prior to the initial setting due to the high volume fraction of fibers and low water-binder ratio (W/B).
