This paper presents the vibration characteristics of a cantilever beam in contact with a fluid using a PZT actuator and PVDF film. dynamic behaviors of a flexible beam-water interaction system are examined. The effect of the liquid level on free vibration of the composite beam in a partially liquid-filled circular cylinder is investigated. The coupled system is subject to an undisturbed boundary condition un the fluid domain. In the vibration analysis of a wetted beam. the decoupled analyses between beam and fluid have been conventionally employed by considering first the composite beam vibration in the all and secondly Performing the correction taking account for surrounding fluid effects. That is, this investigation was to look at how natural frequencies, mode shapes. and damping are affected by liquid level variations. The signals from the sensor according to the applied input voltage are digitalized and filtered in order to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the composite beam in contact with fluid. It was found that the coupled natural frequencies decreased with the fluid level for the identical composite beam due to added mass effect. In case of the free-free boundary condition, the natural frequency gently decreased at fluid water level between 20% and 80% in the first tending mode and we found out the bends of stair shape for added mass effect of the fluid.
Flow Condensation heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) of Rl2, R22, R32, Rl23, Rl25, R134a, R142b were measured experimentally on a horizontal plain tube. The experi- mental apparatus was composed of three main parts; a refrigerant loop, a water loop and a water-glycol loop. The test section in a refrigerant loop was made of a copper tube of 8.8 mm inner diameter and 1000 mm length respectively. The refrigerant was cooled by passing cold water through an annulus surrounding the test section. All tests were performed at a filed refrigerant saturation temperature of 4$0^{\circ}C$ with mass fluxes of 100, 200, 300 kg/$m^2$s. The experimental result showed that flow condensation HTCs increase as the quality, mass flux, and latent heat of condensation increase. At the same mass flux, the HTCs of R32 and R142b were higher than those of R22 by 35~45% and 7~14% respectively while HTCs of R134a and Rl23 were similar to those of R22. On the other hand, HTCs of Rl25 and Rl2 were lower than those of R22 by 28 ~30% and 15 ~25% respectively Finally, a new correlation for flow condensation HTCs was developed by modifying Dobson and Chato's correlation with the latent heat of condensation considered. The correlaton showed an average deviation of 13.1% for all pure fluids data indicating an excellent agreement.
In this study, we numerically investigated the effect of pressure (100-250 bar), temperature (274-288 K), and salinity (3.5% w/w electrolytes) on $CO_2$ hydrate dissolution rates in the ocean. Mass transfer equations and $CO_2$ solubility data were used to estimate the $CO_2$ hydrate dissolution rates. The higher pressure and lower temperature significantly reduced the $CO_2$ hydrate dissolution rates due to the increase of $CO_2$ particle density. In the high salinity condition, the rates of $CO_2$ hydrate dissolution were decreased compared to pure water control. This is due to decrease of $CO_2$ solubility in surrounding water, thus reducing the mass transfer of $CO_2$ from the hydrate particle to $CO_2$ under-saturated water. The results obtained from this study could provide fundamental knowledge to slow down or prevent the $CO_2$ hydrate dissolution for long-term stable $CO_2$ storage in the ocean as a form of $CO_2$ hydrate.
Mass transfer characteristics during osmotic dehydration of mushrooms(Agaricus bisporus) in sugar solution were studied as a function of sugar concentration, immersion time and temperature, and the effect of osmotic dehydration on browning inhibition of air-dried mushrooms was also evaluated. Increasing the sugar concentration, immersion time and temperature increased moisture loss, sugar gain, molality and rate parameter. The changes of sugar gain and rate parameter were more significantly affected by concentration than by temperature of sugar solutions, while 1$0^{\circ}C$ increase in temperature or 10 Brix increase in concentration had the same effect on water loss. Water loss, sugar gain, molality were rapid in the first period of osmotic dehydration especially in the case of higher concentration and temperature of sugar solutions. Effects of osmotic dehydration in sugar solution(60 Brix, 8$0^{\circ}C$) with 18 min of immersion time(O.D.=0.099) rior to air dehydration on browning inhibition of dried mushrooms were more significant than blanching in water(8$0^{\circ}C$) with the same immersion time(O.D.=0.330) and the control (O.D.=0.559).
Objectives: Many symptoms of cold and heat patterns are related to the thermoregulation of the body. Thus, we aimed to study the association of cold and heat patterns with anthropometry/body composition. Methods: The cold and heat patterns of 2000 individuals aged 30-55 years were evaluated using a self-administered questionnaire. Results: Among the anthropometric and body composition variables, body mass index (-0.37, 0.39) and fat mass index (-0.35, 0.38) had the highest correlation coefficients with the cold and heat pattern scores after adjustment for age and sex in the cold-heat group, while the correlation coefficients were relatively lower in the non-cold-heat group. In the cold-heat group, the most parsimonious model for the cold pattern with the variables selected by the best subset method and Lasso included sex, body mass index, waist-hip ratio, and extracellular water/total body water (adjusted R2 = 0.324), and the model for heat pattern additionally included age (adjusted R2 = 0.292). Conclusions: The variables related to obesity and water balance were the most useful for predicting cold and heat patterns. Further studies are required to improve the performance of prediction models.
A highly sensitive analytical method based on stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) technique and gas chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (GC/MS-MS) has been developed, allowing the simultaneous multi-analyte determination of seven UV filters in water samples. The stir bar coated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was added to 40 mL of water sample at pH 3 and stirred at 1,100 rpm for 120 min. Other SBSE parameters (salt effect and presence of organic solvent) were optimised. The method shows good linearity (coefficients > 0.990) and reproducibility (RSD < 12.9%). The extraction efficiencies were above 84% for all the compounds. The limits of detections (LOD) and limits of quantification (LOQ) were 2.1~8.6 ng/L and 6.8~27.5 ng/L, respectively. The developed method offers the ability to detect 8 UV filters at ultra-low concentration levels with only 40 mL of sample volume. Matrix effects in tap water, river water, wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) final effluent water and seawater were investigated and it was shown that the method is suitable for the analysis of trace level of 7 UV filters except of benzophenone (BP). The method developed in the present study has the advantage of being rapid, simple, high-sensitive and both user and environmentally friendly.
To study the intruded phenomena of North Pacific Ocean around Boso peninsular, water property distribution in the adjacent seas to Japan is studied using the hydrographic data obtained by Japan Maritime Agency and Japan Fisheries Agency from 1973 to 1996, The scattering of water type in T-5 diagram is relatively small in the Kuroshio Region. Both the envelopes of saline side and of fresh side of the scattered data points shifts gradually from saline side to fresh side as the observation Line moves from southwest to northeast. In mixed water region, the scattering of water type increases rapidly as the observation line moves north; the envelope of fresh cold side moves towards fresh cold side much faster than that of saline side. This suggests that the water does not advect along the salinity minimum layer, but the salinity minimum layer can be understood as a boundary of two different waters aligned vertically, We defined the typical water masses as the Oyashio Water and the Kuroshio Water. The water mass below the salinity minimum layer may be created by isopycnal mixing of these two water masses with a fixed mixing rate. While the water mass above the salinity minimum cannot be created simply by isopycnal mixing. The salinity minimum layer may be eroded from upper side due to active minxing processes in the surface layer, while the water of the salinity minimum layer moves gradually southward. This appears to give an explanation why the thermosteric anomaly value at salinity minimun decereases towards south.
Rock Mass Rating has been widely applied to the underground tunnel excavation and many other practical problems in rock engineering. However, Rock Mass Rating is hard to make out because it is difficult to estimate each valuation items through all kind of field situations and items of RMR have interdependence. So the experts of tunnel assessment have problems with rating rock mass. In this study, using multivariate analysis based on domestic data(1011EA) of water conveyance tunnel, we presented rock mass rating system which is objective and easy to use. The constituents of RMR are decided to RQD, condition of discontinuities, groundwater conditions, orientation of discontinuities, intact rock strength, spacing of discontinuities in important order. In each step, we proposed the best multiple regression model for RMR system. And using data which have been collected at other site, we examined that presented multiple regression model was useful.
The predicting equations for mass transfer rate in cross-flow rectangular dialyzers with double flow and recycle, have been derived by mass balances. The recycling operation has two conflicting effects. One is the desirable effect of the increase in fluid velocity, resulting in an increased mass transfer coefficient. The other is the undesirable effect of the reduction in concentration difference due to remixing, resulting in decreased mass-transfer driving force. In contrast a single-pass device without recycling, considerable improvement in mass transfer is achieved if the cross-flow rectangular dialyzer of same size is operated with double pass and external recycling. It is concluded that recycle can enhance mass transfer, especially for larger reflux ratio.
Sewage treatment plants located near to large cities emit extremely higher concentration of odorous materials. This study evaluated flux profiles of ammonia emitted from the water surface of sewage treatment plants using a dynamic flux chamber. Also, an ammonia overall mass transfer coefficient and a mass transfer model was developed in order to estimate fluxes of ammonia using environment parameters and the flux from the sewage treatment plants. The developed mass transfer model was evaluated through a fitness analysis. Comparison modeled flux applying empirical overall mass transfer coefficients of ammonia and measured ammonia flux show a high linearity with 0.977. The flux ratio of 1.282 demonstrated highly statistical fitness, also. Modeled flux using the mass transfer model was compared with measured flux. In result, it indicated that empirical overall mass transfer coefficients were similar to measured flux. The mass transfer model using the empirical overall mass transfer coefficient developed in this study was proved to be an easy and effective method to make accurate and precise predictions for ammonia flux discharged from sewage treatment plants.
