  • The ingress of chloride ions plays a crucial role for service life design of reinforced concrete structures. In view of durability design of concrete structures under marine environment, one of the most essential parameters is the surface chloride content of concrete. However, on the basis of the results of in-situ investigation, this value has been determining in the numerous studies on the durability design of concrete structures. Hence, it is necessary to confirm the range of the surface chloride content in order to establish a unified durability design system of concrete. This study suggests a rational and practical way to calculate the maximum surface chloride content of submerged concrete under marine environment. This approach starts with the calculation of the amount of chloride ingredients in normal sea water. The capillary pore structure is modeled by numerical simulation model HYMOSTRUC and it is assumed to be completely saturated by the salt ingredients of sea water. In order to validate this approach, the total chloride content of the mortar and concrete slim disc specimen was measured after the immersion into the artificial sea water solution. Additionally, the theoretical, the experimental and in-situ investigation results of other researchers are compiled and analyzed. Based on this approach, it will follow to calculate the maximum surface chloride content of concrete at tidal zone, where the environment can be considered as a condition of dry-wetting cycles.

  • In this study, we design a marine environmental information service system with satellite images based on satellite images to reduce the damage caused by changes in the marine environment. The system provides satellite oceanographic information such as water temperature, chlorophyll, float, etc. as hierarchical texts, which is implemented as a unit module Web service so that it can be expanded in OpenAPI environment. And stability of system plug-in portability, service hours, data extraction precision and speed are used as a basis for diagnosing service stability. By securing the function and performance of the service system implemented in this study, it can be expanded to a complex technology that can customize the users by group by adding not only general services of existing systems operated by location but also information about a specific interested areas. Especially, various other items of interest including marine environment information are developed in modules, so we expect to be able to expand and service the system by plugging into the system and to spread it in technical linkage with the related institution information system.

  • We should understand the wetlands in the environment not only large famous but also very small wetlands. Wetlands have been understood the habitat of waterfowls and the treasure house of ecology. But All wetlands must be cognized how to be wetlands and be valuable as environment. There are many small and nonfamous wetlands in our country. They are not understood as wetlands. They are known as leaved estate, so thought as developed economically. Many leaved small nonfamous wetlands supply various good things. Most of all, they are water service and maintain of climate. These are served the source of sustenance of earth environment and ecology. They must get supported and maintained. Therefore The paradigm is shifted on the wetlands.

  • Ecosystem services provide various benefits to human beings, but are considered to be free of cost. To protect ecosystems in an economically sustainable way, several developing countries have adopted a policy known as the Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) that compensates upstream services with monetary incentives collected from service users. Vietnam is one of the countries that have enacted a nationwide PES policy. However, the policy in Vietnam requires further development in order to evaluate the spatial priority zones based on the quantification of ecosystem services. To obtain a recent and high-quality land cover map, we first classified the land cover in the Da River basin, in northern Vietnam, using Landsat dataset. We then applied a water balance theory and an USLE equation to assess hydrological ecosystem services concerning water supply and sediment retention. Following the assessment, we identified the priority areas for hydrological ecosystem services exclusively for forest environments. We found that the quantity and distribution of services from forests varied, due to the topography, climate, and land cover. According to a quantile distribution, Mt. Phu Luong, Mt. Fansipan, and Hoang Lien National Park were evaluated as high service areas in terms of both water yield and sediment retention. As a result, this assessment method can help construct spatial priority zones concerning ecosystem service distribution, and can also contribute to benefit sharing by indicating which forest and landowners require compensation.

  • As studies and developments of nano-material increase, the release of the nano-sized material to water environment increase. Especially, silver nanoparticles have been found as dissolved and particulate state since nano-silver particle have been intensively used in industrial and our living environment due to the anti-bacterial effect of the nano-particles. The silver nano-particles and silver ion gives adverse effect on ecology and US-EPA set a secondary drinking water standards as 0.1 mg/L. Current study focused on the analysis of silver in groundwater, small scale water supply systems in Gyeongbook area. The results have been compared with the secondary drinking water standards and discussed at the point of characteristics of the local area and purpose of use of the water sample. Among the total of 298 samples, 2 samples exceed the secondary drinking water standards of EPA, 0.64% rate. Community drinking water and simplified water service showed relatively high detection rate and groundwater gave relatively higher concentration of silver indicating anthropogenic source and natural source could contribute simultaneously on groundwater.

  • This study's objective was to determine the prevalence of Salmonella spp. in pigs and their farm environments in Korea, and to investigate the relationship between the strains based on their phenotypic and genotypic characteristics. A total of 36 Salmonella spp. were isolated in this study: 18 isolates from 492 pigs (3.7%) and 18 isolates from 418 (4.3%) farmhouse environmental samples from 16 different pig farms. Of the Salmonella strains isolated from the numerous environmental samples, the highest prevalence was observed in slurry or manure, followed by partitions, farmer's hands, floors, water/nipples, ventilation sources, and feed, respectively. All the Salmonella isolates originating from different farms were genetically distinct. In three farms, however, identical phage types and pulse-field gel electrophoresis patterns were observed among Salmonella isolates from pig feces and environmental samples. This study suggests that environments contaminated with Salmonella could pose an infection risk to pigs on pig farms.

  • We investigated the residues of 6 cephalosporins (cefquinome, cephalexin, cephalonium, cefazolin, ceftiofur, cefuroxime) using LC-MS/MS in raw meat in Seoul. This method involves extraction of the residue from the meat by distilled water and methanol followed by a manual of residue analysis published by the National Institute of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation. The recoveries ranged between 74.71~90.01% in beef, 73.37~101.40% in pork and 70.87~95.53% in chicken, respectively. The limits of detection were 0.0004~0.0563 mg/kg, and the limits of quantification were 0.001~0.169 mg/kg respectively. Residues of cephalosporins which exceeded maximum residue limits (MRL) were not exceed in any of the 287 samples. However, it is necessary to develop multi-method, which includes the active metabolites of ceftiofur.
