  • Detecting a small threat object either fast moving or floating on shallow water presents a formidable challenge to shipboard sensor systems, which must determine whether or not to launch defensive weapons in a timely manner. An integrated multisensor concept is envisioned wherein the combined use of active and passive sensor is employed for the detection of short duration targets in dense ocean surface clutter to maximize detection range. The objective is to develop multisensor integration techniques that operate on detection data prior to track formation while simultaneously fusing contacts to tracks. In the system concept, detections from a low grazing angle search radar render designations to a sensor-search infrared sensor for target classification which in turn designates an active electro-optical sensor for sector search and target verification.

  • Hydrogen peroxide is a radiolysis product of water formed under gamma-irradiation; therefore, its reliable detection is crucial in the nuclear industry for spent fuel management and coolant chemistry. This study proposes an electrochemical sensor for hydrogen peroxide detection. Cysteamine (CYST), gold nanoparticles (GNPs), and horseradish peroxidase (HRP) were used in the modification of a gold electrode for fabricating Au/CYST/GNP/HRP sensor. Each modification step of the electrode was investigated through electrochemical and physical methods. The sensor exhibited strong sensitivity and stability for the detection and measurement of hydrogen peroxide with a linear range of 1-9 mM. In addition, the Michaelis-Menten kinetic equation was applied to predict the reaction curve, and a quantitative method to define the dynamic range is suggested. The sensor is highly sensitive to H2O2 and can be applied as an electrochemical H2O2-sensor in the nuclear industry.

  • We exploited a new molecular system - acetylcholine (neurotransmitter) detection system as a building block for the perfect molecular information system (sensing membrane of the chemical sensor) - using water soluble calix[n]arene-p-sulfonates which are useful even in aqueous (water/methanol) neutral solution. This achievement is due to several outstanding properties of these calix[n]arene derivatives such as low $pK_{a}$ values, cation-interactions, and high water-solubility, etc.

  • Increasing active sites and enhancing electric conductivity are critical factors to improve sensing performance toward phenol. Herein, Ni nanoparticle was successfully anchored on acidified multiwalled carbon nanotube (a-MWCNT) surface by electroless plating technique to avoid Ni nanoparticle agglomeration and guarantee high conductivity. The crystal structure, phase composition and surface morphology were characterized by XRD, SEM and TEM measurement. The as-prepared Ni/a-MWCNT nanohybrid was immobilized onto glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface for constructing phenol sensor. The phenol sensing performance indicated that Ni/a-MWCNT/GCE exhibited an amazing detection performance with rapid response time of 4 s, a relatively wide detection range from 0.01 mM to 0.48 mM, a detection limit of $7.07{\mu}M$ and high sensitivity of $566.2{\mu}A\;mM^{-1}\;cm^{-2}$. The superior selectivity, reproducibility, stability and applicability in real sample of Ni/a-MWCNT/GCE endowed it with potential application in discharged wastewater.

  • Generally, the correlation between the responses of various sensors can be exploited to detect a possible malfunctioning sensor during operation. The sensor fault detection is implemented by using the regression ability of artificial neural networks(ANN). In this work, sensor fault detection scheme based on ANN is proposed. To verify its applicability, simulation study on the water data gathered from Saemangeum measurement stations is executed.

  • Fault detection and diagnosis(FDD) system is beneficial in equipment management by providing the operator with tools which can help find out a failure of the system. An experimental study has been performed on fault detection and diagnosis method for a water chiller. Bayes classifier, which is one of classical pattern classifiers, is adopted in deciding whether fault occurred or not. FDD algorithm can detect refrigerant leak failure, when 20% amount of charged refrigerant for normal operation leaks from the water chiller. The refrigerant leak failure caused COP reduction by 6.7% compared with normal operation performance. When two kinds of faults, such as a decrease in the mass flow rate of cooling water and temperature sensor fault of cooling water inlet, are detected, COP is a little decreased by these faults.

  • Water leak detection system is a system based on wireless sensor networks(WSNs) which detect a leak on water supply, localize the leak position and finally inform a water management center. A traditional leak detection method is to use experienced personnel who walk along a pipeline listening to the sound that is generated by the leaks and their effectiveness depend on the experience of the user. Also making more successful detection, it should be processed at middle of the night when people do not use water, as the result users have to operate the leak detection system at midnight. In this paper, we propose a new method for the water leak detection system based on the WSNs and describe it in detail. Leak detection devices which detect a leakage of water transmit and receive the result of water leak detection with each other by configuring WSNs to improve reliability of the detection result. Also, we analyzed the sound from water flowed in pipeline, proposed the pre-signal processing to separate a leakage sound from noisy sound. And lastly, It is especially important to make a time synchronization with water leak detection devices that are installed on the pipeline, we used 1PPS(1 Pulse Per Second) signal generated by GPS, therefore we could get a precise time synchronization. The proposed system set up in Namyangju and performances were evaluated.

  • An optical sensor was developed to detect nanoparticles, turbid materials and microorganisms in water simultaneously. Three different light sources like UV-LED, NIR-LED and laser diode have been employed to develop the optical sensor based on the scattering light and fluorescence light. The sensor system has high selectivity and sensitivity, that it can be used to monitor the quality of drinking water.

  • A multi purpose environmental monitoring system has been developed as a commercially available standard using the techniques which are FBG(Fiber Bragg Grating), Hetero-core spliced fiber optic sensor and etc, for the purposes of monitoring large scaled structures and preserving natural environments. The monitoring system has been tested and evaluated in a possible outdoor condition in view of the full scaled operation at actual sites to be monitored. Additionally, the developed systems in the previous works conveniently provided us with various options of sensor modules intended for monitoring such physical quantities as displacement, distortion, pressure, binary states, and liquid adhesion. In this paper, we extend the previous results to a water leakage detection problem and develop a sensing system as a result. By the experimental study, it is verified that multi-point leakage detection is possible using single line optical fiber.

  • The data of K-Water waterworks is collected from various sensors and used as basic data for the operation and analysis of various devices. In this way, the importance of the sensor data is very high, but it contains misleading data due to the characteristics of the sensor in the external environment. However, the cleansing method for the missing data is concentrated on the prediction of the missing data, so the research on the detection and prediction method of the missing data is poor. This is a study to detect wrong data by converting collected data into quintiles and patterning them. It is confirmed that the accuracy of detecting false data intentionally generated from real data is higher than that of the conventional method in all cases. Future research we will prove the proposed system's efficiency and accuracy in various environments.
