Cement-stabilized clay has widespread applications in Deep Mixing projects, whereby soft deep clay deposits are improved through the addition of cement. While much research on this subject has taken place over the past decade, the strength and deformation behaviour of cement-stabilized clay is still not well understood. An extensive laboratory program was conducted on kaolin stabilized with up to 10% cement. Water curing was employed for durations up to 112 days. To study the microstructure of raw and stabilized soil, use is made of SEM. Micrographs of selected raw and stabilized soil were obtained. These micrographs were closely analyzed for any change in the microstructure of the soil as a result of stabilization.
High flexible lightweight composites containing tobermorite as a main mineral is produced using various amorphous silicates, lime, cement and fibers. Here, Mechanical properties of the composites were studied by observing microstructures of hydrates and fibers. Amorphous silicates having better hydraulicity retarded the crystallization of tobermorite due to better formation of C-S-H gel in water bath curing, but, difficult conversion from C-S-H gel to tobermorite in hydrothermal reaction. In the low molar ratio of CaO/SiO2 (0.67), faster crystalization was observed dued to more impurities such as Al2O3 alkali, resulting in improving mechanical properties due to small crystal size and many contact points. It was identified that a lot of calcium silicate hydates formed at surface of pulps increase bonding strength and the crack-resistance of matrix in the composites, but decrease hardness and compressive strength. The choice of amorpous silicates having better hydraulicity, low CaO/SiO2 adding each fibers bellow about 5% in the raw mixs and lower molding pressure should be needed at improve mechanical properties of composites.
Drawing optical fibers in a graphite furnace is one of the most convenient and economical means of producing optical fiber. Since the flaw formation on optical fiber is mainly due to dust contaminations during drawing and surface corrosion by water vapor penetration through coating layer, the tensile strength of optical fiber drawn in a graphite furnace is greatly inflenced by the drawing conditions. The important factors found in this investigation were preform treatment (fire polishing), furnace interior environment (dust contamination, inert gas flows), primary coating condition (resin curing temperature, coating materials, method, thickness) and fiber pulling condition (furnace temperature, drawing speed, pulling tension). The tensile strength at optimum drawing conditions turned out to be 5 ~ 6 GPa.

In this study, lightweight aggregates were developed to see the possible application as a structural uses. For the evaluation purpose, several testings were conducted to compare the physical characteristics between the controlled lightweight aggregates and other lightweight aggregates purchased from different sources. The tests included property changes of fresh concrete and strength characteristics of hardened concrete for both normal and high strength ranges. In addition, a experiment was performed to analyze the freezing and thawing resistance of new lightweight aggregate concrete against other lightweight aggregate concrete against other lightweight aggregate concretes with some experimental parameters such as lightweight aggregates, curing conditions, and water-cement ratio. The test showed that the new lightweight aggregate could be used structural components. Continuous study will be planned for future evaluations.

This paper presents a preliminary study on the influence of laterite soil replacing conventional fine aggregates on the strength properties of GGBS-blended-concrete. For this purpose, GGBS-blended-concrete samples with 40% GGBS, 60% Portland cement (PC), and locally available laterite soil was used. Laterite soils at 0, 25, 50 and 75% by weight were used in trails to replace the conventional fine aggregates. A control mix using only PC, river sand, course aggregates and water served as bench mark in comparing the performance of the composite concrete mix. Test blocks including 60 cubes for compression test; 20 cylinders for split tensile test; and 20 beams for flexural strength test were prepared in the laboratory. Results showed decreasing trends in strength parameters with increasing laterite content in GGBS-blended-concrete. 25% and 50% laterite replacement showed convincing strength (with small decrease) after 28 day curing, which is about 87-90% and 72-85% respectively in comparison to that achieved by the control mix.

This paper persents the crack control of mass concrete in massive machine foundation. The dimension of the machine foundation is 52.6m$\times$14.4m$\times$8.5m. The one distinctive characteristic of mass concrete is thermal behavior. Since the cement-water reaction is exothermic by nature, the temperature rises inside the massive concrete structure. When the heat is not quickly dissipated, it can be quite high. Significant tensile stresses may develop from the volume change associated with the increase of decrease of temperature within the mass concrete structure. To avoid occurrence of harmful cracks due to hydration heat, special attention shall be given to the construction of mass cnocrete structures. The temperature control system of mass concrete is proposed in this paper. This system contains a discussion of materials and concrete mix proportioning, thermal analysis, curing method, temperature control, and measurement of hydration heat. As will be seen throughout the paper, the proposed temperature control system have a great effect on the temperature-related cracks on mass concrete structures.

An experimental study was performed to examine the feasibility of using silicic wastes as construction materials for civil structures, and investigate its utility as a replacement for the favored nature resource to prevent the economic loss. In order to achieve this objective, mechnical properties of concrete containing silicic wastes is tested by investigating the strength development through parameters of water-binder ratios replacement 10 percent ratio with respect to curting conditions. The effect of stringth development is investigated for curing conditions when silicic wastes of 10 percent of cement-binder ratios is containde. Comparision on compressive strength of normal concrete and concrete containing silicic wastes at 28 day is conducted. The concrete with silicic wastes have larger compressive strength than of normal concrete by about 20 percent, when cured at 80 degree. The wastes concrete using silica sand shows increased strength, fracture toughness, elastic modulus and strain than the normal concrete, although the silicic wastes concrete could be able to satisfy the generally required strength for conventional concrete structures.

In the construction site, it is necessary to estimate the compressive strength of concrete in order to adjust the demolding time of the form, and establish and adjust the construction schedule. The compressive strength of concrete is determined by various influencing factors. However, the conventional method for estimating the compressive strength of concrete has been suggested by considering only 1 to 3 specific influential factors as variables. In this study, six influential factors (Water, Cement, Fly ash, Blast furnace slag, Curing temperature, and humidity) of papers opened for 10 years were collected at three conferences in order to know the various correlations among data and the tendency of data. After using algorithm of various methods of machine learning techniques, we selected the most suitable regression analysis model for estimating the compressive strength.
Radiant burners are applicable to drying, preheating and curing in materials manufacturing processes. High radiation efficiency is one of the most important performance criteria for these burners. The wide variation in reported radiation efficiencies are partly due to the differences in the measurement techniques. In the present work, water cooled radiant heat flux meter was used to measure radiant heat flux from a metal fiber mat burner. Non-contact type thermometer was also utilized to measure the surface temperature of the burner. Combustion gas was measured by gas analyzers. According to the thermal loads and stoichiometric ratios, radiant heat transfer ratio and combustion performance were discussed here in.
