The monitoring technique based on electrical conductivity (EC) can provide researchers with some advantages in maintenance management and is cost-effective as compared with existing CSOs monitoring. In this study, the flow rate estimation using EC data was executed in two sites where storm overflow chamber had installed. In the result of A-site, R2 of second order multinomial between dilution ratio of EC and observed flow rate was showed the range of 0.68 ~ 0.77. And $R^{2}$ of B-site was 0.62 ~ 0.81. On the other hand, cumulative frequency of A-site was 43.4 ~ 52.2% in the relative error level of under 20%. And B-site was 10.1 ~ 46.5%. The flow rate estimation formula was improved through consideration of some parameters including antecedent dry days and rainfall duration. And difference between estimated flow rate and observed flow rate in total rainfall event was very small.

Sea level fluctuation present a direct influence to those who live near the coast. The importance of monitoring sea level is evident. Therefore, various techniques have been employed for sea level measurements such as the coastal water level gauges, satellite altimetry and GPS buoy. Especially, GPS buoys have been used to measure water levels, atmospheric parameter and other physical conditions in sea, tide correction, the altimeter range calibration, ocean environment. In this paper, we will mainly concentrate on the kinematic technique for GPS buoy to measure the sea level. A test was carried out to test the method proposed in this paper, which made use of a GPS buoy equipped to monitor the sea level in Busan. We have executed to analysis about applications of GPS buoy.

Reservoir storage and water level information is essential for accurate drought monitoring and prediction. In particular, the agricultural drought has increased the risk of agricultural water shortages due to regional bias in reservoirs and water supply facilities, which are major water supply facilities for agricultural water. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the available water capacity of the reservoir, and it is necessary to determine the water surface area and water capacity. Remote sensing provides images of temporal water storage and level variations, and a combination of both measurement techniques can indicate a change in water volume. In areas of ungauged water volume, satellite remote sensing image acts as a powerful tool to measure changes in surface water level. The purpose of this study is to estimate of reservoir storage and level variations using satellite remote sensing image combined with hydrological statistical data and the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI). Water surface areas were estimated using the Sentinel-2 satellite images in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do from 2016 to 2018. The remote sensing-based reservoir storage estimation algorithm from this study is general and transferable to applications for lakes and reservoirs. The data set can be used for improving the representation of water resources management for incorporating lakes into weather forecasting models and climate models, and hydrologic processes.
Risk Assessment is an important area in toxicology and the methodology for risk assessment has been developed. Mathematical models used for risk assessment include one-hit multi-hit, two-stage, probit logistic, multistage, and linearized multistage models. For the assessment of exposure dose, environmental monitoring has been applied, but it has limitation to accurately assess exposure level because the levels in the air, water, foods, and soil may vary depending on time of sampling. In addition, humans can be exposed to various sources of exposure and thus it will be impossible to estimate the total level of exposure in humans by environmental monitoring. To eliminate the limitation of environmental monitoring, a direct measurement of toxic materials or modified biomolecules (called biomarkers) associated with the exposure of toxic materials is needed. Here, scientific basis of biomarkers and future direction have been considered for the assessment of carcinogen exposure and cancer risk in humans.
Water sources in volcanic Jeju Island are almost entirely dependent on groundwater because there are actually no perennial streams or rivers due to the permeable nature of surface soils derived from basaltic or trachytic rocks. Uncontrolled development of groundwater resulted in substantial water-level decline, groundwater pollution, and seawater intrusion in several places of the island. To maintain its sustainable groundwater, the provincial government has declared some parts of the island as the Special Groundwater Conservation/Management Area since 1994. Hence, all the activities for the groundwater development in the area should obtain official permit from relevant authorities. Furthermore, to acquire information on groundwater status, a network of groundwater monitoring was established to cover most of the low land and coastal areas with the installation of automatic monitoring systems since 2001. The analysis of the groundwater monitoring data indicated that the water levels had decreased at coastal area, especially in northern part of the island. Moreover, very high electrical conductivity (EC) levels and their increasing trends were observed in the eastern part, which was ascribable to seawater intrusion by intensive pumping in recent years. Water level decline and EC rise in the coastal area are expected to continue despite the present strict control on additional groundwater development.
The weakness of current water quality monitoring system was reviewed to manage Nakdong river's water quality. The current monitoring system has sampling periods lasting for a week to 10 days, but these-SAMpling periods may not accurately measure the real level of water quality. Therefore, daily sampling and analysis of water samples for nine factors was performed from May 1st 2011 to Sep. 30st 2011 to check the water quality changes at three-SAMpling points, Munsanri (the upper side of Kangjung-Koryung weir), Kangchang (the outlet of the Kumho River) and Samunjin (the lower side of Kangjung-Koryung weir). As demonstrated by the results, concentrations of all nine factors dramatically changed on a daily basis, so daily sampling and analysis of water quality samples may be needed instead of weekly sampling and analysis of water quality samples to ensure the proper management of the Nakdong River's water quality. However, daily observations for all water sampling points are not possible because costs and labors are limited, so that new methods which could support the current monitoring system should be developed.
Bridge scour is the predominant cause of overwater bridge failures in North America and around the world. Several sensing systems have been developed over the years to detect the extent of scour so that preventative actions can be performed in a timely manner. These sensing systems have drawbacks, such as signal inaccuracy and discontinuity, installation difficulty, and high cost. Therefore, attempts to develop more efficient monitoring schemes continue. In this study, the viability of using optical dissolved oxygen (DO) probes for monitoring scour depths was explored. DO levels are very low in streambed sediments, as compared to the standard level of oxygen in flowing water. Therefore, scour depths can be determined by installing sensors to monitor DO levels at various depths along the buried length of a bridge pier or abutment. The measured DO is negligible when a sensor is buried but would increase significantly once scour occurs and exposes the sensor to flowing water. A set of experiments was conducted in which four dissolved oxygen probes were embedded at different soil depths in the vicinity of a mock bridge pier inside a laboratory flume simulating scour conditions. The results confirmed that DO levels jumped drastically when sensors became exposed during scour hole evolution, thereby providing discrete measurements of the maximum scour depth. Moreover, the DO probes could detect any subsequent refilling of the scour hole through the deposition of sediments. The effect of soil permeability on the sensing response time was also investigated.
In this paper, we study the river level/velocimetry measuring system using the ultrasonic sensor to acquire the more precise data from the river circumstance in rainy season. We design the two ultrasonic sensor system to calculate the water level and surface current speed of the river using the dedicated hardware and software. We investigate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed system which applied to the real river environment monitoring system that will be extended to the GIS.
This study estimates unit for the nonpoint source(NPS), classified according to the existing Level-1(large scale) land cover map, by monitoring the measurement results from each Level-2(medium scale) land cover map, and verifies the applicability by comparison with previously calculated units using the Level-1 land cover map. The NPS pollutant loading for a basin is evaluated by applying the NPS pollutant unit to Dongcheon basin using the Level-2 land cover map. In addition, the BASINS/HSPF(Better Assessment Science Integrating point & Non-point Sources/Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran) model is used to evaluate the reliability of the NPS pollutant loading computation by comparing the loading during precipitation in the Dongcheon basin. The NPS pollutant unit for the Level-2 land cover map is computed based on precipitation measured by the Sangju observatory in the Nakdong River basin. Finally, the feasibility of the NPS pollutant loading computation using a BASINS/HSPF model is evaluated by comparing and analyzing the NPS pollutant loading when estimated unit using the Level-2 land cover map and simulated using the BASINS/HSPF models.

Recently, the pollution of groundwater has become serious. In particular, the contamination of groundwater near livestock farms is becoming increasingly severe and it is difficult to drink with drinking water. In this paper, a groundwater purifier apparatus that can be installed in a community well was designed. The designed groundwater purifier apparatus enables a RO membrane filter and UV sterilization to remove pollutants, such as heavy metals, bacteria, and organic compounds. In addition, electrical conductivity, pressure, and flow sensors were added for remote monitoring. Remote monitoring of the system can determine the level of fouling and contamination of RO membrane filters through pressure and flow sensor data, and can record changes in the contamination and condition of groundwater through the electrical conductivity of the feed water. The designed groundwater purifier apparatus was installed at a farmhouse and remote monitoring. The result after 15 days of operating a groundwater purifier apparatus and analyzing the monitoring data revealed an average permeate water flow rate of 2.67L/min and an average water pressure of 7.09kgf/㎠, indicating that the RO Membrane filtered without fouling and clogging. The average electrical conductivity was 796.6 S/㎠ of the feed water and 55.6 S/㎠ of permeate water, which is similar to that of general tap water. Through this, it was confirmed that no pollutant occurred in the surroundings. Therefore, the designed groundwater purifier apparatus can confirm the replacement time of the RO membrane filter in advance through remote monitoring, and check the pollution state of the groundwater.
