This study was to examine the utilization of waste egg snells for removal of heavy metals in laboratory wastewater. It was estimated that pH increasing formed heavy metals into a hydroxide and then settled to remove them. Removal rate of heavy metals were increased as increased dosage, low adsorbate concentration and passed reaction time. Average adsorption volumes of Cr, Cu, Mn and Pb per g were about 1.21 mg, 1.1 mg, 0.96 mg and 1.04 mg, respectively. If we reflected the adsorption capacity(k) and adsorption intensity(1/n) of Freundlich isotherm, we couldn't consider waste egg shells as a good adsorbent. It seemed that heavy metals contained in complex wastewater was removed to be influenced by inital pH, solubilities with passed reaction rime and competitive reaction.
This research was performed for the fundamental data using a advanced treatment process of piggery wastewater. Characteristics of influent wastewater was divided with various methods in fixed biofilm batch reasctor. Fractons of organic were divided into readily biodegradable soluble COD(Ss), slowly biodegradable COD(Xs), nonbiodegradable soluble COD($S_I$), and nonbiodegradable suspended COD($X_I$). Experimental results were summerized as following : i) biodegradable organics fraction in piggery wastewater was about 88.1 percent, and fraction of readily biodegradable soluble COD was about 66.1 percent. ii) Fractions of nonbiodegradable soluble COD was 11~12 percent, and soluble inert COD by metabolism was producted about 6~8 percent. iii) Active biomass fraction of attached biofilm was about 54.7 percent, and substrate utilization rate and maximum specific growth rate of heterotrophs were $8.315d^{-1}$ and $3.823d^{-1}$, respectively.
Wastewater containing phenol was treated using Pseudomonas sp. B3 in continuous reactor, reaction characteristics and kinetics according to variation of volumetric loading rate in continuous reactor were studied. The removal efficiencies of phenol were more than 99% at the whole range of experiment, and those of COD were 97% at the volumetric loading rate, $0.96kg/m^3{\cdot}d$ and 88% at $3.0kg/m^3{\cdot}d$, respectively. Kinetics constants of $q_m$, $K_s$, Y and $K_d$ were obtained 0.901 l/d, 0.620mg/l, 0.659 and 0.219 l/d, respectively. As compared with to constants of standard activated sludge process, these constants were remarkably different because of toxicity and inhibition of phenol to microbes. And also, kinetics constants of oxygen utilization, a, and b, were shown 0.384 kg $O_2/kg$ phenol and 0.029 l/d.
Constructed wetlands are considered as an important tool for wastewater treatment, wastewater management and flooding control. In addition, one of the most promising technologies for application in many countries seems to be constructed wetlands, due to their properties such as utilization of natural processes, simple construction, operation and maintenance, process stability, cost effectiveness, etc. This study considered possibility of treatment of livestock wastewater using a constructed wetland. The removal efficiencies of $COD_{cr}$, TOC, TN, TP, SS, and color were 97.6%, 96.6%, 97.0%, 96.7%, 99.0%, and 85.6%, respectively. In particular, SS was completely removed. However, $Cl^{-}$ concentration of the constructed wetland effluent was higher than that in influent. In conclusion, constructed wetlands could be applied to livestock wastewater treatment if $Cl^{-}$ would be properly treated. Further, it needs time for stabilization to reduce the pollutants which were accumulated in soil.
A coagulation-flocculation (CF) process using aluminum sulfate as a coagulant was employed to treat highly suspended solids in tunnel wastewater. Response surface methodology (RSM) based on a Box-Behnken design was applied to evaluate the effects of three factors (coagulant dosage, pH and temperature) on total suspended solids (TSS) removal efficiency as well as to identify optimal values of those factors to maximize removal of TSS. Optimal conditions of coagulant dosage and pH for maximum TSS removal changed depending on the temperature ($4{\sim}24^{\circ}C$). As temperature increased, the amount of coagulant dosage and pH level decreased for maximum TSS removal efficiency during the CF process. Proper adjustment of optimal pH and coagulant dosage to accommodate temperature fluctuations can improve TSS removal performance of the CF process.
This study employed the modified fouling index (MFI) to determine the performance of a two-step recycling system - a membrane filtration integrated laminar flow water storage (LFWS) tank followed by an ion exchange process to reclaim ultrapure water (UPW) from the wastewater generated from semiconductor wafer backgrinding and sawing processes. The first step consisted of the utilization of either ultrafiltration (UF) or nanofiltration (NF) membranes to remove solids in the wastewater where the second step consisted of an ion exchanger to further purify the filtrate. The system was able to produce high purity water in a continuous operating mode. However, higher recycling cost could be incurred due to membrane fouling. The feed wastewater used for this study contained high concentration of fine particles with low organic and ionic contents, hence membrane fouling was mainly attributed to particulate deposition and cake formation. Based on the MFI results, a LFWS tank that was equipped with a turbulence reducer with a pair of auto-valves was developed and found effective in minimizing fouling by discharging concentrated wastewater prior to any membrane filtration. By comparing flux behaviors of the improved system with the conventional system, the former maintained a high flux than the latter at the end of the experiment.
The purpose of this research is to examine the utilization of oyster shells for neutralization and removal of heavy metal ions in plating wastewater, because oyster shells have been known to be very porous, to have high specific surface area and to have alkaline minerals such as calcium and magnesium. The results obtianed from this research showed that oyster shells had a buffer capacity to neutralize an acidic.alkali system in plating wastewater. Generally, it could be showed that the removal efficiencies of heavy metal ions were very influenced by reaction times and oyster shell dosages. In point of ocean waste, if oyster shells substituted for a valuable adsorbent such as actviated carbon, they could look forward to an expected economical effect.

An approximated analytical solution of mathematical model for the three phase fluidized bed bioreactor (TFBBR) was proposed using the linearization technique to describe oxygen utilization rate in wastewater treatment. The validation of the model was done in comparison with the experimental results. Satisfactory agreement was obtained in the comparison of approximated analytical solution and numerical solution in the oxygen concentration profile of a TFBBR. The approximated solutions for three modes of the liquid phase flow were compared. The proposed model was able to predict the biomass concentration, dissolved oxygen concentration the height of efficient column, and the removal efficiency.
