Objectives: Students in elementary schools usually wash their hands in a washstand. However, little attention is paid to the washstand itself. Today, the importance of personal sanitation and hygiene is greatly emphasized. Therefore students' parents and the public are growing increasingly interested in accessibility to washstands by elementary school students in their schools. Methods: With respect to this study, a survey of students and teachers inelementary schools was performed on the installation of washstands in order to determine the proper number of washstands per school. Results: The results show that 1.1 boys (per class) need a washstand, while 1.8 girls (per class) do so in order to maintain a 50% level of crowdedness. By of the regression equation, to maintain 50% congestion (50% of all students feel congestion) there should be 18.5 boys, and the 15.76 girls per washstand. Table 3 is based on the above results, the number of students per washstand (x) and congestion (y), separated by gender according to the results of regression analysis, the correlation of male models in the linear regression analysis and correlation of girls in the regression equation can be obtained. The linear regression fit of less than 0.7 determines that the coefficients of determination are 0.5399 and 0.4195, respectively. Significance was much smaller. Also, according to the simulation using the diffusion model, with 29 students per class more than one washstand should be provided in a school. Girls (per class) need 0.7 more washstands than boys (per class). Conclusions: More washstand facilities for girls than boys are needed. If the target is based on school class size two washstands should be installed. Finally, guidelines and/or standards in the Schools Health Act of Korea forin elementary school washstands is considerably needed.

The purpose of this study is to find the characteristics of bathroom through the latest apartment model house, and to investigate the types of design element in bathroom space, that is equipment material, measurement, and shape. Also, this study compare the changes in bathroom investigated through the theoretical study and understand the general design characteristics of modern bathroom. Design characteristics of bathrooms of 19 apartment model houses that are 30pyong to 60pyong model in the south area of the Han river and new city area, Boon-dang were analyzed based on previous studies. The result of the study is as follows. 1) The most remarkable change of bathroom can be found in equipment. The type of bathroom equipment, materials, forms, size have been changing diversely. 2) In addition, the function of bathroom has been changing. Bathroom is not only sanitary place but also place for rest, health-care, beauty-care, storage, and it is possible to add health improving function. 3) On the other hand, $\ulcorner$washstand + toilet + shower booth$\lrcorner$ type is common for family-bathroom, and separate type of $\ulcorner$washstand + toilet + bathtub + shower booth + Powder room + dress room$\lrcorner$type is most common for master-bathroom.
The purpose of this study was to provide a guideline for the bathroom fixtures of the aged by examining current status. The study has been carried out by measuring physical size of 50 aged peoples over 65 years old and their bathroom fixture status. The results were revealed as follows; 1. The height of washstand is $0.46\~0.52$ time of person's height. Adequate height of wash stand is proposed as $74\~80$ cm. The height of current market available wash stand is very close to the proposed size. 2. The height of toilet is $0.23\~0.27$ time of person's height. Adequate height of toilet is proposed as $38\~41$ cm. The height of current market available toilet is also very close to the proposed size. 3. The height of bathtub is $0.26\~0.35$ time of person's height. Adequate height of bath tub is proposed as $45\~49$ cm. The proposed height is higher than that of current bath tub available in the market. However, it should be noted that the proposed height is the sum of bath tub it self and elevation during actual installation. As stated above, it is revealed that the physical dimensions of the bathroom fixtures in the current market are properly sized. However, to draw more practical guideline for the bathroom fixture, more studies including actual experimentation will be required in the future.
This study shows the floor plan types and the space composition of multi-used toilets in public-toilets of Choongchung-Do. The areas of multi-used toilets are various from 4.8m2 to 10.5m2 And there Is usually one multi-used toilet in one public-toilet, but some public-toilets have two multi-used toilets. Multi-used toilets have several equipments such as toilet stool, urinal, washstand, change diaper, chair for baby-care, toilet stool for child, urinal for child, so on. All the multi-used toilets have toilet stool and washstand, but urinal and change diaper were used restrictively, and chair for baby-care, toilet stool for child, urinal for child were used in few cases. There are six types how the multi-used toilets are located in public-toilets, five types of multi-used toilet forms, and five types how the equipments are installed in multi-used toilets. The dotted blocks are installed partially in line type, and partially in spot type. But some cases, there was no installation of dotted block. Auto-sliding door were usually applicated, and some other types of door system were used restrictively. This study offers not only the present conditions, but also the appropriate planning directions of the multi-used toilets.

This study aims to identify the change of bathroom design characteristics through the investigation of bathroom space in apartment model houses. The bathroom space of each private exclusive area was analyzed from the plane characteristics perspective such as quantity, location, size and shape. For this study, site survey and observation was performed to analyze the characteristics of plane and design based on twenty seven model houses of seven large-sized construction firms with Seoul area focused on. Research object was restricted to from ten Pyeong's apartment to sixty Pyeong's in order to understand various characteristics of twenty seven model houses. Since analysis variables were not diverse, the main three factors - frequency, percentage and an average - were represented in Microsoft Excel worksheet, focusing on the quantity of each case, design characteristics and pattern. 1) The quantity of bathrooms: It was turned out that the quantity of bathroom was one in ten Pyeong's apartment while it was two in thirty, forty, and fifty Pyeong's apartment. There were mostly two bathrooms available in twenty Pyeong's apartment even if only one was planned in few cases. All powder rooms and dress rooms in twenty and fifty Pyeong's apartment were designed to be separated and be accessible through bedroom. 2) The size of bathrooms: As private exclusive area increased, the size of bathroom for both family and couple increased. Couple bathrooms had the tendency to be equipped with shower booth and bathtub at the same place or have more tubs than family bathrooms because couple bathrooms were bigger than family bathrooms. 3) The location of bathrooms: Couple bathrooms were usually located beyond dress rooms or powder rooms while family bathrooms were mostly located at the entrance side. 4) The shape of bathrooms: Shower booth was assumed to be in general vogue because family bathrooms, for the most part, were comprised of a flush toilet, a washstand and a shower booth. In the case of couple bathrooms, a flush toilet, a washstand, a shower booth and a tub were generally equipped in more than twenty Pyeong's apartments while a tub was not installed in twenty Pyeong's apartments.

The aim of this study is to obtain new design factors which can be applied to the constructing design of bathrooms. This study was especially focused on the using patterns of the bathrooms of the rural apartment houses in Chungbuk Province which have been constructed by the public program to improve old farm houses. To carry out this study, field study, questionnaire survey and personal interview have been made. The results are as follows. 1) It is essential to lay out a bathtub, because farmers need to relieve their fatigue caused by manual labor, and mostly they don't find a bathhouse in the neighborhood. 2) With the drainage way, it is necessary to equip an apparatus to collect and remove the fallen hair and garbage which usually stop up the beak. 3) Considering the using patterns of the bathrooms as the place of washing one's face, foot, hair and clothes, one more hydrant is needed in the bathroom besides the two hydrants in the washstand and bathtub.

This paper proposes a ceramic heating element-based tankless instant electric water heater for hand/face washing that does not require a lot of hot water. The heating module, which heats the input water and outputs hot water, operates the ceramic heating element detecting input water using a flow sensor. Inside of the heating module is designed to form one flow path in order to get almost $15^{\circ}C$ increased heated water compared to the input water temperature within 2 second after 1.5 liter per minute water supply. The design validity is verified using a heat flow analysis of the water flow and temperature variations inside of the heating module also. Based on the design data, the heating module is constructed including a single rod-type ceramic heating element. After that, a prototype system having temperature setting function by three steps were constructed. The prototype system is connected to a 1.5 liter per minute water supply line, and the water output temperature and time measurement experiments confirmed that the proposed system output the heated water increased by $18.3^{\circ}C$ in case of third step setting within 2 second after water supply. And standby power is under 1 W and peak power does not exceed the permissible range for the general house usage. Several performance results verify that the proposed tankless instant electric water heater is applicable for the washstand of the house, highway rest area and factory so on as winter-time hand/face washing.
