차간거리 경보시스템의 HiLS 구현 (An Experimental Investigation of a Collision Warning System for Automobiles using Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulations)

  • Collision warning systems have been an active research and development area as the interests and demands for ASV's (Advanced Safety Vehicles) have increased. This paper presents an experimental investigation of a collision warning system for automobiles. A collision warning HiLS(Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation) system has been designed and used to test the collision warning algorithm, radar sensors, and warning displays under realistic operating conditions in the laboratory. the collision warning algorithm is operated by a warning index, which is a function of the warning distance and the braking distance. The computer calculates velocities of the preceding vehicle and following vehicle, relative distance and relative velocity of the vehicles using vehicle simulation models. The relative distance and the relative velocity are applied to the vehicle simulator controlled by a DC motor.

  • The main function of the Forward Vehicle Collision Warning System (FVCWS) is to warn a driver when he or she experiences dangerous situations caused by a forward vehicle. Warning distance algorithms under same dangerous circumstances are often various depending on automobile manufacturers and component suppliers. Human factors also should be considered to warn the driver at an adequate warning distance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a system for evaluating the pertinent warning timing in an identically dangerous situation. The system consists of sensors for measuring speed and acceleration of subject vehicle and target vehicle, controllers to follow the velocity profile properly, and wireless telecommunication equipments for receiving or transmitting the measured data in a real-time. According to actual field tests, it is shown that the developed system is suitable to evaluate warning distance of FVCWS.

  • Although vehicles become more intelligent for convenience and safety of drivers, traffic accidents are increased more and more. Especially, car-to-car single rear impacts in the urban area are increased rapidly because of driver inattention. To prevent rear impacts in the urban area, commercial automobile vendor applies the low-speed short-distance collision warning system. This paper presents low-speed short-distance collision warning algorithm for the city driving by using sensor fusion of laser sensor and ultrasonic sensor. An experiment using embedded microprocessor in the driving track was used to demonstrate the feasibility of the collision warning algorithm.

  • Traffic accidents are normally caused by late or faulty judgements due to the driver's inaccurate estimation of the distance, velocity, and acceleration from the surrounding vehicles as well as his carelessness or inattention. Thus, the development of collision avoidance systems is motivated by their great potential for increased vehicle safety. A typical collision avoidance system consists of the forward-looking sensor, the criteria for activation of collision warming and avoidance, the collision avoidance maneuvers, and the user interface. This thesis is concerned with the development of a collision warning algorithm in which the driver is warned of approaching collision with the visual and/or the audible signals . The warning algorithm based on fuzzy logic is presented here based on new warning criteria. It has been newly derived from the conventional warning equation by adding a new input variable of the required deceleration to avoid collision. The algorithm is also able to adapt to the individual driver's taste along with the different road conditions by externally controlling the warning intensity. Finally , the proposed algorithm has been validated using computer simulation.

차량 그림자를 이용한 주행 차량 검출 및 차간 거리 측정 (Driving Vehicle Detection and Distance Estimation using Vehicle Shadow)

  • 최근 차량 운전자들의 안전 운행을 보조하기 위해 운전자의 차량과 전방의 차량 간의 거리를 추정하고 안전거리 유무를 알려주기 위한 경보시스템이 개발되고 있다. 본 논문에서도 실제 도로 환경에서 전방의 주행 차량을 검출하여 차간 거리를 측정하고, 충돌 위험 상황을 감지하여 운전자에게 충돌 위험을 알리는 충돌경고시스템을 설계 및 구현하였다. 먼저 전방주시 카메라를 활용하여 촬영한 도로영상으로부터 도로와 차량에 해당하는 관심 영역을 추출하고, 관심 영역에서 전방 차량의 그림자 임계값 분석을 통해 전방 차량 객체를 추출한 후 전방 차량과의 거리를 계산하여 충돌 위험 경고를 알려준다. 주행 차량 검출 및 차간 거리 측정 결과를 기반으로 충돌경고시스템을 설계 및 구현하였으며, 실제 도로상황에 적용하여 실험한 결과 매우 높은 정확도를 나타내어 안전 운전에 대응할 수 있는 것으로 검증되었다.

첨단경고장치가 사업용 차량 운전자의 운전행태에 미치는 영향 분석 (Identifying the effects of advanced warning devices on the driving behaviors of commercial vehicle drivers)

  • PURPOSES : This study aims to analyze how the installation of advanced warning devices affects individual drivers' driving behaviors with operating record data collected from 100 vehicles. METHODS : With collected data, the changes in individual drivers' driving behaviors, such as Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW), were investigated with respect to the cumulative distance traveled and driving time. For the analysis, operating record data collected from 100 vehicles for seven months were used. RESULTS : The results showed that individual drivers' driving behaviors could be categorized into six different types. In addition, most of the drivers showed unstable warning patterns in the initial stage after installation of an advanced warning device. Approximately 40% of vehicles equipped with advanced warning systems were found to have positive effects, indicating that the frequencies of both FCW and LDW had been continuously decreasing after installation of the system. CONCLUSIONS : The warning device might be helpful for making drivers' driving behaviors safer. Driving behaviors during the initial stage of the system installation, which might be regarded as an adaptation phase, were found to be very unstable compared with normal situations, indicating that adequate education and training should be provided to all the drivers to prevent operator disruption at the initial installation of the system.

항공관제 시스템에서 항공기 공중충돌 경고기능의 설계 및 구현 (The Design and Implementation of the Collision Avoidance Warning Function in the Air Traffic Control System)

  • An aircraft collision accident is a disaster that causes great losses of inventories and lives. Though a collision avoidance warning function is provided automatically to pilots in the aircrafts by the enhancement of the aircraft capability, achieving fast decision-making to escape a collision situation is a complex and dangerous work for pilots. If an in-flight collision situation is controlled by the air traffic control system which monitors all airplanes in the air, it would be more efficient to prevent in-flight collisions because it can handle the emergency before the pilot's action. In this paper, we develop the collision avoidance warning function in the air traffic control system. Specifically, we design and implement the five stages of the collision avoidance function, and propose a visualization method which could effectively provide the operators with the trajectories and altitudes of the aircrafts in a collision situation. By developing an in-flight collision warning function in the air traffic control system that visualizes flight patterns through the state transition data of in-flight aircrafts on the flight path lines, it can effectively prevent in-flight collisions with traffic alerts. The developed function allows operators to effectively select and control the aircraft in a collision situation by providing the operators with the expected collision time, the relative distance, and the relative altitude while assessing the level of alert, and visualizing the alert information which includes the Attention-Warning-Alert phase via embodying the TCAS standard. With the developed function the air traffic control system could sense an in-flight collision situation before the pilot's decision-making moment.

  • 차량과의 교통사고를 예방하기 위해 다양한 전방충돌사고경보 시스템이 연구되었다. 이를 위해 일반적으로 카메라와 센서 등과 같은 외부 장치를 이용하는 알고리즘으로 전방충돌 위험 경보를 발생시킨다. 하지만 이런 외부장치를 사용할 경우 안개나 비가 내릴 때 장비 특성에 따른 오차가 발생할 수 있다. 또한, 충돌 위험이 전방에 있는 차량에 대해서만 경보가 발생하는 시스템이기 때문에 연쇄 추돌 사고에 대한 예방은 미흡하다. 이를 차량 안전 통신에 결합하면 연쇄 추돌 사고도 예방할 수 있는 방안이 될 수 있다. 하지만 외부 장치와 차량 안전 통신 프로토콜 간의 호환성 문제가 있다. 그래서 본 논문에서는 무선 통신 기술, 운전자 정보, 제동거리, 속도를 이용한 개선된 전방충돌사고경보 알고리즘을 제안한다. 그리고 제안된 알고리즘과 기존 알고리즘들을 비교 및 분석한다.

  • A portable train approaching warning device can be used in order to reduce accidents of the workers on the rail, who are working without recognizing the approaching train, and to secure the safety of the workers. It can be installed in the train so that workers can recognize the approaching train. However, it is not easy to identify the location of the train precisely. In this study GPS and RF devices, which are used to calculate the location of the train were reviewed, to see how much error tolerance they have in the field, to analyze the distance for normal transmission between the receiver and transmitter, to verify the conformity of the portable train approaching warning device developed as a prototype model to the current rail system, and to provide the related fields with the analysis results to improve the existing or application technology. Additionally, test methods to locate the train were introduced and each test result was compared and analyzed.

  • 기존의 방향성 패턴 스펙트럼에 비하여 보다 정확하게 방향성 정보를 나타낼 수 있는 패턴 스펙트럼 성분 함수를 도입하고 그 성질을 분석하였다. 그리고 패턴 스펙트럼 성분 함수에 의하여 잡음성 형상을 식별하고자 적응 거리 함수를 제안하였다. 제안한 패턴 스펙트럼 성분 함수를 주의 교통 표지 식별에 실제 응용하여 적응 거리 함수에 의하여 평가한 본 결과 방향성 패턴 스펙트럼에 비하여 보다 만족할 만한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.
