Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of Job stress and Coping of the nurses in ICU and Cancer ward, and to compare the Job stress and Coping between two groups, and finally to get the basic information about the adequate method to promote Coping about Job stress of the nurses in ICU and Cancer ward. Method: The subjects of this study were 131; 62 nurses in ICU and 69 nurses in Cancer ward. Data were collected from 27th August to 14th September in 2007. The instruments for this study were Job stress scale(55 items) developed by Kim(1989), and Coping scale(32 items) developed by Lazarus and Folkman(1984) and revised by Han and Oh(1990). For the data analysis, SPSS PC/win 12.0 program was utilized for descriptive statistics, $X^2$-test, t-test, Pearson correlation. Result: The results of this study were the followings; The mean score of Job stress(range 1-5) was 2.93 in ICU nurse and 2.58 in Cancer ward nurse. There was a significant difference (t=4.453, p<.01)between them. There were significant differences in subscale of Job stress between the two groups, such as Nursing job(t=3.717, p<.01), Job circumstances(t=4.558, p<.01), Personal relations(t=3.425, p<.01), Hospital administration and ward management(t=2.94, p<.01). The mean score of Coping(range 1-4) was 2.55 in ICU nurse, and 2.54 in Cancer ward nurse; there was no significant difference. But one subscale of the Coping(Search of social support) showed significant difference(t=-2.865, p<.01). There was no significant correlation between Job stress and Coping of ICU nurse vs Cancer ward nurse except one subscale in cancer ward(correlation between Nursing Job and Coping). Conclusion: The ICU nurse is higher than the Cancer ward nurse in the Job stress score significantly and lower than the Cancer unit nurse in the Coping. Based on the study results, it is needed the program development using the Coping methods in accordance with ward speciality to relieve Job stress.

Purpose: The courtyard in the ward can light and ventilate in the central space and corridor of the ward. It is possible to improve the disadvantages of the existing double-corridor ward. Also, there is the advantage in that patients are able to contact with nature indoors and cause positive activities. So, the purpose of this study is quantitatively analyze the floor area and the average distance of nurse working of the courtyard in ward. Methods: The subjects are converted through the same criteria setting. And it investigate and analyze the influence of the courtyard in the ward through the analysis of the spatial composition. Result: The factors that affected the floor area increase are the planning courtyard, the corridor type and the dispersion of the medical rooms. The average distance of nurse working is more influenced by the nursing management system of the hospital than by the courtyard. So, It can improve according to the position and number of nurse station. Implications: It can be used as a primary data for courtyard plan in the ward for positive patient environment plan considering the floor area, average distance of nurse working.
In order to investigate and compare the health risk factors of nurses in the operating room(OR nurse) and ward (WARD nurse), the questionnaire survey for subjective symptoms was carried out on 553 nurses(132 OR nurses and 421 WARD nurses) who were employed at seven hospital. The self-administered questionnaries were composed of low back pain, subjective fatigue symptoms, musculo-skeletal symptoms, psychological stress and reproductive function. The results were as follows : 1. In the type of working posture and working environment, there were significant difference between two groups for working posture, waist form, height of working table, satisfaction of chair, lifting & carring. 2. Job satisfaction, duration of work, height of working table, satisfaction of chair, lifting & carring were significantly associated the low back pain. 3. In the complaints of subjective fatigue symptoms, the total mean score was higher in OR nurse than WARD nurse, but there was not significant. The items that the mean score of OR nurse was significantly higher than WARD nurse were 'head feels muddled', 'apt to forget', 'feel choky'. 4. In the complaints of musculo-skeletal syrrptoms, the total mean score was higher in OR nurse than WARD nurse, but there was not significant. The item that the mean score of OR nurse was significantly higher WARD nurse was 'wrist discomfort or pain'. 5. The comparison of spontatenous abortion in married nurses who had the experience of pregnancy were significantly associated the stress risk group. 6. In all of OR and Ward nurses, the job satisfaction is associated with subjective fatigue symptoms, musculo-skeletal symptoms, and stress. In conclusion, it suggested that working posture, working environment, stress, and job satisfaction were health risk factors of nurses working in the operating room. Further prospective intervention studies should be conducted to educate right working posture, improve of working environment, decrease of stress, and increase of job satisfaction.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to compare and analyze the work environment, role conflict, and job embeddedness between comprehensive nursing care service (CNCS) ward nurses and general ward nurses. Methods: This descriptive research study involved 70 CNCS ward nurses and 69 general ward nurses working at an advanced general hospital in Seoul. Data were collected using the structured questionnaire from March 27 to April 14, 2019 and analyzed with the SPSS 24.0 program. Results: The work environment of the CNCS ward nurse was higher than that of the general ward nurse (t=4.38, p<.001), and the role conflict of the CNCS ward nurse was lower than that of the general ward nurse (t=-2.09, p=.038). However, job embeddedness did not show any statistically significant difference (t=0.22, p=.824). Conclusion: The results of this study show that the introduction of CNCS ward has shown improvement in the work environment and strengthened the establishment of the roles in their team, while maintaining the job embeddedness of nurses. These results indicate that improvements in the work environment, such as nurse staffing and material support, would contribute to the qualitative enhancement of nursing and that it would need to extend the introduction of CNCS wards.
This study was performed from september 26th to October 7th 1981 to investigate the contamination problems of Nurse's hands characterized by var-ious nursing functions. A total of 50 nurse's hands were sampled from 5 different wards of H. University Hospital. The samples were cultured for isolation of microorganisms. The results were as follows: 1. Of 50 Nurses 23 were found to be contaminated by 9 species of bacilli such as Non-fermentative gram negative Bacilli, Gram negative bacilli, Oxidase positive, Enterobacter, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Gaffkya tetragens, Bacillus subtilis. 2. The contaminate rates by wards where they have been serving are; 7 (87.5%) of 8 nurses from Intensive care unit, 7(70%) of 10 nurses from general surgery ward, 3(50%) of 6 nurses from neurosurgery ward, 2(20%) of 10 nurses from orthopedic surgery ward, 4(25%) of 10 nurses from medical ward. 3. The contamination rates by the types of clinical service offered are 6(85.7%) of 7 nurses after wound dressing assist 6 (55.3%) of 13 nurses after vital sign check. 4. The purpose of this study is to find out the difference in circadian rhythm and level of fatigue between ER and General Ward Nurse. This study was done through analyzing body temperature, heart rate and major electrolytes such as $Na^+$ and $K^+$ concentration on urinalysis, which are related to factors of circadian rhythm and level of fatigue. The subjects, 17 nurses from Emergency Room and 25 nurses from general ward, were selected from a General Hospital in Taegu City on August 8 to 23, 1998. And the data were analyzed by proportion, t-test, chi-square and Pearson's Correlation, ANCOVA, using SAS program. The results of this study were shown as follows: First, The difference of Maximal and minimal heart rate was significant between ER group and general ward group. However, body temperature difference wasn't notable. Second, Urine $Na^+$ concentration on urinalysis was lower and $K^+$ concentration on urinalysis was higher in ER group than general ward group significantly. Third, Fatigue level was higher in ER group than general ward group significantly. Fourth, through urine concentration, significant relations in circadian rhythm of ER nurse group and general ward group and their fatigue level were found. Urine $Na^+$ concentration on urinalysis of ER nurse was significant related with their fatigue level. In conclusion, the effect of fatigue on circadian rhythm is greater in ER group than general ward group during night shift. This study could be a help in improvement of nurse's health and understanding the effect of fatigue on health.

The path and visibility of nurses in general hospital wards have been treated as architectural planning factors. However, the analysis approach of existing studies shows limitations that only fixed physical elements are considered without considering the behavior of users using space. Consider factors for analysis of ward and models based on this study model. Select a case hospital to apply the analysis technique and conduct the nurse questionnaire and route survey of the hospital. Establish a framework for analysis model applied with the path of nurse movements. The analysis model applies to the case hospital. The analysis results are aggregated to derive design suggestion for reference to the spatial improvement of the ward. Visible visibility to observe the bedside in the nursing station, visibility to observe the beds in the nurse's path, and visibility to observe patients moving in the nurse's path were derived from visual access frequency and exposure frequency. The survey of nurses' movements at the site allowed the nurses to calculate the distance required to move. Reflecting the path of nurse movement, a model was presented for a comprehensive analysis of nursing distance and nursing visibility, which could lead to improvement in the observation and visibility of nurses and the layout of patient rooms or day rooms.
The purpose of this study is identify the status of the ward of public hospital for integrated nursing care service. Integrated nursing care service has been expanding on a national scale from 2016 but most of public hospitals are currently unable to operate due to nursing shortage. In this study 8 wards of public hospital have been chosen and analyzed. The measure of space program and area distribution(patient area percentage, staff area percentage, circulation area percentage), nurses's walking distance(distance from ns to patient room, distance from ns to core) were calculated by depthmapX and autocad programs. The result of this study is as follows. Nurse's walking distance is more than 24m so the efficiency of nurse's patient care is reduced. The percentage of patient area in double-corridor is higher and the patient feels more comfortable but the Nurse's walking distance is longer and the accessibility is lowered. NS should be located in the center of the ward and close to the core but some wards are not composed of proper space-separation and flow of human trrafic is overlapped. This study may serve as basic research for the architectural plan for future integrated nursing care ward.

Purpose: This paper aimis to analyze the characteristics of ward plan of Korean hospital architecture constructed in each periods and identify the change since 1945. Methods: Literature review was conducted while ward plans for analysis were sellected. And then the important points of ward design were analyzed in each periods. Results: The important points of ward design - type of corridor in ward plan, number of beds per nursing unit, location of nurse station, organization of multi-bed rooms, location of patient toilet, number of day room, concentration and separation of elevator halls for patient and general- were analyzed and the characteristics of change were identified in each periods. Implications: This paper could be a basic data for arranging the history of hospital architecture in Korea.
This study was to investigate the relationship between hospital nurses 'knowledge of breast-feeding and their ability to provide care to breast-feeding mothers and their children. From Nov. 1 to 30, 1999, 105 nurses of the obstetric ward, delivery room, OPDs of obstetrics and gynecology, and nurseries of three general hospitals from Seoul and Pusan were evaluated. The results are as follows: 1.Mean score of nurse's knowledge to breast-feeding was 12.76. Mean score of performance of nursing activities was 109.80. 2.General characteristics and feeding characteristics were significantly related to nurse's knowledge to breast-feeding and performance of nursing activities related to breast-feeding. Nurse's knowledge about breast-feeding was significantly related to age, working ward, clinical experience, rank of position, experience of breast-feeding and experience education on breast-feeding. Performance of nursing activities for breast- feeding was significantly related to age, working ward, experience in other ward, marital status, and education on breast-feeding. 3.A positive correlation between nurse's know-ledge to breast-feeding and performance of nursing activities related to breast-feeding was statistically significant(r=.381, P<0.05).
