Purpose: Bioabsorbable screws are used to fix the syndesmotic injury of ankle because of no need for additional operation to remove it. The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of polylevolactic acid (PLLA) screws of in the treatment of the syndesmotic injury of ankle. Materials and Methods: Eight patients of the syndesmotic injury of ankle with malleolar fracture were evaluated in this study. They were managed with plate and screw fixation for malleolar fracture and polylevolactic acid screw fixation for syndesmotic injury, followed by plaster splinting for 6 weeks. Clinical and radiographic evaluation were done and functional scores were assessed. Results: In all cases, malleolar fractures were healed without problematic widening of syndesmosis. There were no sinus tract formation and no wound complication. Of eight patients, five had excellent results and three had good results. Conclusion: We conclude that polylevolactic acid screw is good material for fixation of the syndesmotic injury of ankle.

The development of completely new intracranial aneurysms after previous successfully treated aneurysm is uncommon. A 50-year-old female presented with a case of multiple de novo aneurysm which were an aneurysm of right ophthalmic segment of internal carotid artery and an aneurysm of right A1 artery, 6 years after the clipping of an aneurysm of right posterior communicating artery. She had no history of hypertension, cigarette smoking and use of oral contraceptives, and had no evidence of genetic disorder. The laboratory findings were normal. All de novo aneurysms were clipped by basal anterior interhemispheric approach in one stage due to the direction of the aneurysm of the ophthalmic segment of the internal carotid artery.

Purpose : To evaluate the efficacy of arthrocentesis for treatment of closed lock. Material : 42 patients were diagnosed to closed lock by physical, radiographic examriation and undergone arthrocentesis. All patients have a pain and mouth opening limitation on affected site. Method : Arthrocentesis was done under conscious sedation and local infiltration anesthesia, normal saline and some steroid was injected on upper compartment of tempormandibular joint. After pumping and lavage, manual reduction procedure of anterially displaced disc was done. All the patients wear an anterior repositioning splint just after arthrocentesis. The result of arthrocentesis was assessed by pain and difference of mouth opening. Result : Difference of mouth opening after arthrocentesis was improved to 18.85mm and pain was gradually decreased. All patients were worn stabilization type splint after mean 1.84 months. 6 patients had relapse of mouth opening limitation so done arthrocentesis again and delivered good results.

Authors studied 24 cases in 18 patients with the hallux valgus deformity treated by Reverdin osteotomy at Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital from January 1995 to December 1999. Reverdin osteotomy is one of the distal metatarsal osteotomies in the treatment of hallux valgus in adults. We performed Reverdin osteotomy on 24 cases (18 patients) for painful hallux valgus associated with an increased hallux valgus angle (> 35degrees) and first-second intermetatarsal angle(>13 degrees). The results were as follows. 1. The average first-second intermetatarsal angle was 16.8 degrees and average valgus angle was 37.3 degrees, preoperatively. they were corrected to 7.8 degrees and 12 degrees respectively. 2. The metatarsalgia of the great toe was subsided in all cases and they were satisfied with the result of their operations in respect to cosmetically and functionally. Avascular necrosis of capital fragment, nonunion, and dorsal angulation were not developed in any case. But one case had superficial wound infection and delayed union, presumably due to secondary infection.

Primary subacute pyogenic osteomyelitis, or Brodie's abscess has received much attention since its initial documentation in the literature in 1832 by Sir Benjamin Brodie. Brodie's abscess is a localized form of chronic osteomyelitis that occurs most often in the metaphyseal area of the long bones of the lower extremities of young adults, Intermittent pain of long duration is the presenting complaint, along with local tenderness over the affected area. Laboratory evaluation is unrevealing, with a normal white blood cell count and differential count. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate may also be normal. Roentgenogram shows a markedly varied appearance and an abscess may be easily mistaken for various neoplasm. The most common organism cultured from abscess is Staphylococcus species. Treatment includes curettage of the lesion and administration of antibiotics. We present a case report (with a 1-year follow-up period), demonstrating the successful surgical treatment of Brodie's abscess of the distal metaphysis of the left tibia caused by Salmonella cholerasuis in a 33-year-0ld male who had no hemoglobinopathy.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical and radiologic results of using Acutrak screws for treating ankle medial malleolar fracture. Materials and Methods: We reviewed 38 cases of ankle medial malleolar fracture treated with Acutrak screws from February 2005 to May 2008. Results: In clinical result, there were 30 exellent cases, 7 good cases, 1 fair case. In radiologic result, there is no case with reduction loss. Average union time is 10.5 weeks. Conclusion: We conclude that Acutrak screw fixation is a useful method for ankle medial malleolar fracture, there are many advantages in accurate anatomical reduction, small incision, short operative time.

Background: To report the radiological and clinical outcomes of internal fixation using distal clavicle hook plates for distal clavicle fractures. Methods: From April 2008 to December 2012, 32 patients with distal clavicle fractures underwent surgery using an AO hook plate. The reduction was qualified and evaluated according to the radiological findings. The evaluation of the clinical outcomes was performed with the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) score, the Korean Shoulder score, and the visual analogue scale (VAS) pain score. Results: By radiological evaluation, we found that 31 of 32 patients showed anatomical reduction and solid bone union. Although we obtained satisfactory UCLA scores, Korean Shoulder Scale scores, and VAS pain scores, 12 cases of complications were present. We found 4 cases of osteolysis of the acromion, 1 case of nonunion, 3 cases of periprosthetic fractures, 3 cases of subacromial pain, and 1 case of skin irritation. We performed re-operations in 2 patients. Conclusions: To avoid complications associated with clavicle hook plates, choosing the appropriate hook size and bending of the hook according to the slope of the acromion undersurface is critical. Also, we believe that early removal of clavicle plates may help reduce complications.

The Wallace Collection in London (one of the national museums in the UK) has a gallery dedicated to conservation related displays. As well as permanent displays on the manufacturing techniques and materials of artifacts, there is a specially designed space for temporary conservation exhibitions. Through the example of the current conservation exhibition at the Wallace Collection and similar exhibitions and displays from other museums in the UK, this paper will study how the relationship and communication between the conservation profession and the general public have changed, from conservation as a behind-the-scenes and little-known activity to a closer interaction with the public and as a direct educational tool. The general function of a museum can be seen to have evolved from providing passive information to its visitors to offering more active and various forms of education. Conservation has developed with this change towards more awareness of the profession and its role in the preservation of cultural heritage through public outreach programs and displays.

In this paper we show that for any triangle and any point on the circumcircle the envelope of the Wallace-Simson lines with signed angle ${\alpha}$ is a parabola. The proof is obtained naturally using polar coordinates. We also present the reparametrization of the envelope which is a linear normal curve.

HNP [Herniation of the necleus pulposus] generally occurs at ventral portion of lumbar thecal sac due to the anatomical position. We report two unusual cases of herniated dorsal portion of lumbar thecal sac causing diagnostic difficulties. Two patients with posteriorly migrated epidural disc fragments were evaluated with plain X-ray, and magnetic resonance imaging. These patients responded well to operation with complete relief of symptoms. Definite diagnosis of posteriorly located disc fragments is difficult because the radiological images of disc fragments may mimic those of other more common posterior epidural lesions.
