The purpose of this study is to apply the zone method expressions for a gray, absorbing, emitting, and linearly anisotropic scattering medium enclosed in an infinite plane layer to evaluate heat transfer applications. The medium is assumed to be homogeneous and has a refractive index of unity. The boundary surfaces are opaque and gray, diffusely emitting and reflecting at a constant temperature. Radiative equilibrium condition, combined conductive and radiative heat transfer, and thermal ignition are studied in terms of the governing parameters, and the results are compared with previous studies. Wall heat flux results agree well with those of others. Except for the minor discrepancies observed for some cases, temperature results also agree well with those of previous studies. Good agreement with results from other methods indicates the accuracy of the zone method as well as its compatibility with other modes of heat transfer.
Oral cancer surgery changes the morphologic characteristics of the human upper airway. These changes can affect the flow patterns. In this study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations with transient solver were performed to numerically investigate the air flows in the human upper airways depending oral cancer surgery. 3D reconstructed models were obtained from 2D CT images of one patient. For the boundary condition, the realistic breathing cycle of human was applied. The hydraulic diameters of cross-sections for post-surgical model are changed greatly along streamwise direction, so these variations can cause higher wall shear stress and flow disturbance compared to pre-surgical model. The recirculation flows observed in the protruding region result in the relatively large pressure drop. These results can be helpful to understand the flow variations after resection surgery of oral cancer.
The objective of this study is to get simulation data about pulsatile flow of a non-Newtonian fluid through a bifurcated tube. All the process was based on CFD method, with a commercial FVM code, SC/Tetra ver. 6.0 for solving, and with CATIA R16 for generating geometries. To define a non-Newtonian fluid, the following viscous models are used; the Powell-Eyring model, the modified Powell-Eyring model, the Cross model, the modified Cross model, the Carreau model, the Carreau-Yasuda model and the modified Power Law model. The flow calculation data using each model were compared with the other data of a existing paper. Finally, the Carreau model was recognized to give the best result with the SC/Tetra code, and the succeeding simulations are made with the model. For the pulsating flow condition, the sine wave type velocity profile is given as the inlet boundary condition. To investigate the effect of geometries and mesh, the pre-test is carried out with various curvature conditions of the bifurcated corner, and then with various mesh conditions. The final process is to calculate flow variables such as the wall shear stress (WSS) and the wall shear stress gradient (WSSG). To validate all the result, the simulation is compared with the existing data of the other papers. Generally speaking, there is a noticeable difference in the maximum and minimum value of WSS. It is not sure that the values in each data are on the exactly same location. However, the overall trend is similar. The next study needs to investigate the same situation by experimental method. Furthermore, if the flow is simulated with more pulsatile conditions, more data of flow field through a bifurcated tube could be achieved.

The objective of this study is to get simulation data about pulsatile flow around an interior solid body inside a bifurcated tube. All the processes were based on CFD method, with a commercial FVM code, SC/Tetra ver. 6.0 for solving, and with CATIA R16 for generating geometries. The bifurcated tube models were drawn with the bifurcated angle of 45 degrees, considering Murray's law about the diameter ratio. With various locations of the object, the effects of flow on the drag were considered. For the pulsating flow condition, the velocity wave profile was given as the inlet boundary condition. To validate all the result, the simulation was compared with the existing data of the other papers first. Overall flow field of both data were similar, but there was some difference at a zero velocity. Therefore the next simulation was continued with the sine wave profiles where there is no negative flow, and then the data was compared with one of the pulmonary artery velocity where there is negative flow. The final process was to calculate flow variables such as the wall shear stress (WSS) and to compute the drag of the solid object.
A computational analysis using Reynolds stress model in FLUENT is conducted to give a clear understanding of the effect of blade loading on the structure of tip leakage flow in a forward-swept axial-flow fan at design condition ($\phi$=0.25) and off-design condition ($\phi$=0.21 and 0.30). The roll-up of tip leakage flow starts near the minimum static wall pressure position, and the tip leakage vortex developes along the centerline of the pressure trough within the blade passages. Near tip region, a reverse flow induced by tip leakage vortex has a blockage effect on the through-flow. As a result, high momentum region is observed below the tip leakage vortex. As the blade loading increases, the reverse flow region is more inclined toward circumferential direction and the onset position of the rolling-up of tip leakage flow moves upstream. Because the casing boundary layer becomes thicker, and the mixing between the through-flow and the leakage jet with the different flow direction is enforced, the streamwise vorticity decays more fast with blade loading increasing. The computational results show that a distinct tip leakage vortex is observed downstream of the blade trailing edge at $\phi$=0.30, but it is not observed at $\phi$=0.21 and 0.25.
A matched asymptotic analysis is conducted for a compressible rotating flow in a cylindrical container when a mechanical and/or a thermal disturbance is imposed on the wall. The system Ekman number is assumed to be very small. The conditions for the Taylor-Proudman column in the interior, which were also given in the companion paper Park & Hyun, 2002) by means of the energy balancing analysis, have been re-derived. The concept of the variable, the energy content $e[{\equiv}T+2 {\alpha}^2 {\gamma}{\nu}]$, is reformulated, and its effectiveness in characterizing the energy transport mechanism is delineated. It is seen that, under the condition of the Taylor-Proudman column, numerous admissible theoretical solutions for interior flow exist with an associated wail boundary condition. Some canonical examples are illustrated with comprehensive physical descriptions. The differential heating problem on the top and bottom endwall disks is revisited by using the concept of the energy content. The results are shown to be in line with the previous findings.
VIC (Vortex-In-Cell) method for viscous incompressible flow is presented to simulate the wake behind a modified NACA16 foil. With uniform rectangular grid, the velocity in field is calculated using streamfunction from vorticity field by solving the Poisson equation in which FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) is combined with 2nd order finite difference scheme. Here, LES(Large Eddy Simulation) with Smagorinsky model is applied for turbulence calculation. Effective viscosity is formulated using magnitude of strain tensor(or vorticity). Then the turbulent diffusion as well as viscous diffusion becomes particle strength exchange(PSE) with averaged eddy viscosity. The well-established panel method is combined to obtain the irrotational velocity and to apply the no-penetration boundary condition on the body panel. And wall diffusion is used for no-slip condition numerical results of turbulent stresses are compared with experimental results (Bourgoyne, 2003). Before comparing process, LES(Large Eddy Simulation) SGS(Subgrid scale) stress is transformed Reynolds averaged stress (Winckelmans, 2001).

A numerical parametric study has been accomplished to figure out the effect of grille shape built in a small passenger car on the aerodynamic performance such as drag and mass flow rate through CRFM(Condenser Radiator Fan Module). Three grille opening parameters and three grille mesh parameters are selected and adopted to a simple shape passenger car model. This research will provide a design guideline for grille opening geometry and mesh shape in the grille. FLUENT, which is very well known commercial code, hires k-${\epsilon}$ turbulence model at the driving speed of 110km/h with moving wall boundary condition. A porous media condition is prepared to estimate the pressure drop amount through CRFM parts.

In this study steady state solutions of cavity flows driven by two moving walls are studied. The north and east walls of the cavity are movable where as the remaining two walls are fixed in space. Numerical experiments for three different driving schemes for moving walls are done at two different Reynolds numbers of Re=40 and 400. The first scheme is to accelerate north and east walls simultaneously. In the second one, the north wall is started first and the east wall is accelerated later. In the third one the east wall starts first. It is usually expected that all these three cases yield the same steady state solution after sufficiently long time. However, present numerical experiments show that such a usual belief is valid only when the Reynolds number is low enough (Re=40). At higher Reynolds number (Re=400), the flow develops to three different steady states depending on the history of the boundary condition change.
