  • In this paper, a two-dimensional multibody DADS model of a moving walk is developed to improve the ride quality of a moving walk system. The proposed DADS model is able to estimate the longitudinal acceleration of moving walk system, which is the more sensitive and important than other accelerations. To show the validity of the developed model, the longitudinal accelerations of pallet obtained from the computer simulations are compared to the experimental data in frequency domain. Then, the factorial design technique is applied to determine the main design factor and to improve the ride quality. The change of the spring compression in the lower part of the tension generating system improved the ride quality of the moving walk system.

  • The two-dimensional Random-Walk model in which fluid and pollutant particles are tracked using statistical concept was developed to simulate dispersion processes in natural streams. The calibration of the model shows that the error decreases as the number of grid increases, and/or the number of particles in each grid increases. The proposed model is tested against the dispersion data collected in the Grand River, Canada. The simulation results show that the 2-D Random-Walk model describes two-dimensional mixing phenomena occurred in the irregular meandering stream very accurately.

  • Purpose: Condensation in walk-in closets attached to apartment bathroom has been known as an emerging issue that may threat occupants' comfort and health. Despite a number of design guidelines and enforcements to prevent condensation, condensation issues may still occur depending on various cases and scenarios. We aim to identify what condensation scenarios may lead to walk-in closet condensation and/or worse the existing condensation issues. Method: First we choose an actual walk-in closet of an apartment that suffers from sporadic condensation and resulting mold and mildew. Then we observe its relative humidity and temperature after the bathroom is used, in which excessive vapor is thought to be transported to the walk-in closet. We analyze Temperature Difference Ratio - a domestic indicator of condensation occurrence, and dew point temperature to compare it with surface temperature using 2D heat transfer simulation upon various condensation scenarios. Result: TDR of the test walk-in closet turns out be OK despite mold and mildew actually occurring. Hot water pipe installed in the floor would greatly reduce condensation. If hot water pipe in the upper floor, however, is not used, or hot water pipe of the closet is turned off during swing seasons, it is expected that condensations may still occur.

  • The walk-way means a passage installed on the deck of a ship so that a person can safely move under any circumstances. So, the walk-way has to maintain a temperature of $5^{\circ}C$ or more for anti/de-icing even at an ambient temperature of $-62^{\circ}C$, a temperature in polar region. At present, the walk-way with heating cable is used, but the anti/de-icing effect is insufficient due to low heat transfer efficiency. Also, it has a construction problem due to heavy weight. In this study, an walk-way with a CNT surface heating element is proposed for the high anti/de-icing effect and the heating value per unit volume. The international standard survey, conceptual design, and simulation for the structural safety and the heat transfer are performed for the development of the proposed walk-way. To enhance the performance, the case studies based on the simulation analysis are conducted. Finally, the final prototype, applying the optimum material and thickness (3.2t of SS400) based on the case study results, is fabricated and experimented.

  • A walk-down procedure for fire modeling of nuclear power plants, based on deterministic fire protection requirements, was developed. The walk-down procedure includes checking the locations of safety shutdown equipment and cables that are not correctly indicated on drawings and identifying the existence and location of combustibles and ignition sources. In order to verify the performance of the walk-down procedure developed in this study, a sample of important equipment and cables were selected for hypothetical multiple spurious operation (MSO) scenarios. In addition, the hypothetical fire modeling scenarios were derived from the selected safe shutdown equipment and cables and an actual walk-down was conducted. The plant information collected through the walk-down was compared to the information obtained from the drawings, so that the collected information may be used as input values for the fire modeling.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyse the effect of posture correction & stabilization according to horse rider's(n=10) skill levels of novice(0wk), mid-skill(12wk) & skill(24wk) in walk & trot. First, Mean posture of 3 times experiments; Anterior & posterior leaning posture of trunk showed rather unstable according to progress of the stages of TD1, TO, TD2 phase, and also shoulder & elbow angle, which effects to the distance from bit to rein, showed unstable riding posture. There was close relationship between shoulder and elbow Angle in walk and hip, knee & ankle angle in trot. Second, Posture correction & stabilization according to riding skill levels; Anterior & posterior leaning posture of trunk did not show significant difference statistically but showed approaching tendency to trunk's vertical line and showed significant difference(p<.05) according to improvement of skill levels in walk & trot horse riding. Hip angle showed significant difference according to progress of the stages of TD1, TO, TD2 phase(p<.05) and showed tendency maintaining the larger thigh flexion according to improvement of skill levels in walk & trot. Knee angle showed more stable posture by maintaining the larger flexion between thigh and shank according to improvement of skill levels in walk & trot(p<.05). Ankle angle also showed tendency maintaining the larger plantar flexion of foot according to improvement of skill levels in walk & trot. When considering the above, regular horse riding program could be useful in posture correction & stabilization according to improvement of skill levels of novice(0wk), mid-skill(12wk) & skill(24wk) in walk & trot.

  • Efficient gait is compensate for a lack of exercise, but the wrong walking can cause disease that joints, muscles, brain and body structure(Scott & Winter, 1990). Also many researchers has been studied gait of positive mechanism using analytical methods kinetic, kinematic. This study is to identify nature of knee adduction moment, depending on different foot progression angle and the movement of rotation of pelvis and body. Health study subject conducted intended walking with three different angles. The subjects of this study classified three types of walking; walk erect, pigeon-toed walk and an out-toed gait. Ten university students of K without previous operation and disease record selected for this study. For accuracy of this study, three types of walking carried out five times with 3D image analysis and using analysis of ground reaction force to analyze nature of knee adduction moment and the movement of rotation of pelvis and body. Firstly, the HC(heel contact) section value of intended walk erect, pigeon-toed walk and an out-toed gait was not shown statistically significant difference but TO(toe off) section value was shown that the pigeon-toed walk statistically significant. The value of pigeon-toed walk was smallest knee adduction moment(p< 0.005). Secondly, X axis was the change of rotation movement body and pelvis when walk erect, pigeon-toed walk and an out-toed gait. Shown statistically Y axis was not shown statistically significant but Z axis statistically significant(p<0.05). These result show the significant differences on TO section when walking moment reaches HC, it decides the walking types and rotates the foot.

  • This paper describes the mechanism of a new biped machine capable of doing human-robot cooperation work. The biped machine, WABIAN-2 is made of two seven degrees of freedom (DOF) legs, a two DOF waist and no DOF trunk. Its leg system consists of two three DOF ankles, two one DOF knees and two three DOF hips to deal with various walk motions. Its height is about 1.2[m], and its weight is 40[kg]. It is designed with large movable range as a human. Also, a knee stretch walk pattern generation for the biped machine to perform natural walk like a human is discussed in this paper. Its leg motion is compensated by using the motion of its waist. Basic knee stretch walk experiments using WABIAN-2 are conducted on the plane, and the validity of its mechanism and walk pattern generator is verified.

  • A study is made on the determination of the total head distribution using the random walk theory within a confined flow system with complicated boundary conditions. Both nonhomogeniety and anisotropy of the aquifer are considered. The overlying on the aquifer may have sheet piles and the impervious boundary may be inclined. Use is made of the Monte Carlo simulation based on the random walk theory to determine the total head at a given Point. A computer program is developed for practical use. The proposed method was evaluated by comparing the results with those obtained by other method, i.e., the conventional flow net, the finite difference method, and the method of fragment. It is found that all the values are in reasonable agreement and the method is sufficiently accurate for practical use.
