  • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are widely used in geographically isolated applications like military border area monitoring, battle field surveillance, forest fire detection systems, etc. Uninterrupted power supply is not possible in isolated locations and hence sensor nodes live on their own battery power. Localization of sensor nodes in isolated locations is important to identify the location of event for further actions. Existing localization algorithms consume more energy at sensor nodes for computation and communication thereby reduce the lifetime of entire WSNs. Existing approaches also suffer with less localization coverage and localization accuracy. The objective of the proposed work is to increase the lifetime of WSNs while increasing the localization coverage and localization accuracy. A novel intelligent unmanned aerial vehicle anchor node (IUAN) is proposed to reduce the communication cost at sensor nodes during localization. Further, the localization computation cost is reduced at each sensor node by the proposed intelligent arc selection (IAS) algorithm. IUANs construct the location-distance messages (LDMs) for sensor nodes deployed in isolated locations and reach the Control Station (CS). Further, the CS aggregates the LDMs from different IUANs and computes the position of sensor nodes using IAS algorithm. The life time of WSN is analyzed in this paper to prove the efficiency of the proposed localization approach. The proposed localization approach considerably extends the lifetime of WSNs, localization coverage and localization accuracy in isolated environments.

  • IIoT, the IoT technology applied to the industrial field, is being used as a monitoring technology for increasing in production rate and safety of workers. However, monitoring through the construction of IIoT network using Ethernet and RS485 in production lines where dozens to hundreds of machine tools are manufacturing components, have difficulties of infrastructure cost and network flexibility and fluidity. Therefore, in this paper, using IEEE 802.15.4 standard WSN device to construct a Ad-Hoc WSN in the production line. In addition, the transmission period and order of the sensor nodes are set by applying the EtherCAT communication method in which the payload frames are shared by all the sensor nodes. From this, we have overcome the problem of reliability decline and real-time issue due to the packet collision of wireless network and confirmed that it is a wireless network routing method that can be used in the actual industrial field.

  • In industry areas, a lot of factories and process plants need network for processing data acquired from field and for communicating between sensors or actuators or field controllers. Most of the industry networks are based on wired solutions. But, recently, a lot of factories and process plants are moving into wireless solutions since they have some advantages compared with wired one. In this paper we first review the characteristics of wired and wireless network technologies and introduce the new technique called wireless sensor network (WSN). And then we describe the wireless sensor node system designed by us for WSN which has the ability of small size, flexibility and low-power consumption and embedded into the Bar-code scanner to communicate each other. Finally, we conclude this paper by showing that wireless industry network can be constructed with wireless sensor network without large change of traditional wired topologies through experiment using wireless sensor nodes.

  • At EUROCRYPT 2019, a new block cipher algorithm called BISON was proposed by Canteaut et al. which uses a novel structure named as Whitened Swap-Or-Not (WSN). Unlike the traditional wide trail strategy, the differential and linear properties of this algorithm can be easily determined. However, the encryption speed of the BISON algorithm is quite low due to a large number of iterative rounds needed to ensure certain security margins. Commonly, denoting by n is the data block length, this design requires 3n encryption rounds. Moreover, the block size n of BISON is always odd, which is not convenient for operations performed on a byte level. In order to overcome these issues, we propose a new block cipher, named DBISON, which more efficiently employs the ideas of double layers typical to the BISON-like construction. More precisely, DBISON divides the input into two parts of size n/2 bits and performs the round computations in parallel, which leads to an increased encryption speed. In particular, the data block length n of DBISON can be even, which gives certain additional implementation benefits over BISON. Furthermore, the resistance of DBISON against differential and linear attacks is also investigated. It is shown the maximal differential probability (MDP) is 1/2n-1 for n encryption rounds and that the maximal linear probability (MLP) is strictly less than 1/2n-1 when (n/2+3) iterative encryption rounds are used. These estimates are very close to the ideal values when n is close to 256.

  • Since Time synchronization is also critical in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) like other networks, a time synchronization protocol for WSN called IBS(Indirect-Broadcast Synchronization) has been already proposed in 2012. As IBS operates in cluster tree topology, network lifetime may be mainly shortened by cluster head node[s], which usually consumes more power than cluster member (i.e. non-cluster head) nodes. In this paper, I propose enhanced version of IBS (called EIBS) which saves overall energy and prolongs network lifetime by re-constructing partial cluster tree locally. Compared with other tree construction approaches, this tree reconstruction algorithm is not only simpler, but also more efficient in the light of overall power consumption and network lifetime.

  • The wireless sensor network (WSN) based ECG and body temperature measuring system for ubiquitous health-care were designed and developed. The system was composed of a wireless sensor network node, base station and server computer for the continuous monitoring of ECG signals and body temperatures of patients at home or hospital. ECG signal and body temperature data, important vital signals which are commonly used in clinical and trauma care, were displayed on a graphical user interface (GUI). The data transfer from sensor nodes on patients' body to server computer was accomplished through a base-station connected to a server computer using Zigbee compatible IEEE802.15.4 standard wireless communication. Real-time as well as historical, ECG data of elderly persons or patients, can also be retrieved and played back to assist the diagnosis. The ubiquitous health care system presented in this study can effectively reduce social medical expenses, which will be increased greatly in the coming aging society.

  • In this paper, for the pratical building envoronments, the propagation properties of the electromagnetic waves of the sub-1GHz bands, including the 447MHz, 868MHz, and 715MHz, and the 2.4GHz band are experimentally observed in therms of the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) value. The compasion of the frequency bands can be utilized to efficiently construct the wireless sensor networks (WSN) for the building automation control. In order to measure the RSSI values in the building, an RSSI measurement system is first designed, in which the master part can transmit data packets and measure the corresponding RSSI values, and the slave part can respond the received data packets. Using the measurement system, the RSSI values are then experimentally measured at four types of building enviroments. From the experimental result analysis, we could notice that the sub-1GHz, especially the 447MHz band, showd a good communication performance for the building environment and could provide an efficient WSN construction when the data rate is relatively low.

  • Restricted by finite battery energy, traditional wireless sensor networks (WSNs) can only maintain for a limited period of time, resulting in serious performance bottleneck in long-term deployment of WSN. Fortunately, the advancement in the wireless energy transfer technology provides a potential to free WSNs from limited energy supply and remain perpetual operational. A mobile charger called wireless charging vehicle (WCV) is employed to periodically charge each sensor node and keep its energy level above the minimum threshold. Aiming at maximizing the ratio of the WCV's vocation time over the cycle time as well as guaranteeing the perpetual operation of networks, we propose a feasible and optimal solution to this issue within the context of a real-time large-scale deployed WSN. First, we develop two different types of charging cycles: initialization cycles and renewable cycles and give relevant algorithms to construct these two cycles for each sensor node. We then formulate the optimization problem into an optimal construction algorithm and prove its correctness through theoretical analysis. Finally, we conduct extensive simulations to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithms.
