A Study on Mechano-chemical Ball Milling Process for Fabricating Tungsten Disulfide Nanosheets (이황화텅스텐 나노시트 제조를 위한 기계화학적 볼밀링 공정 연구)

  • Tungsten disulfide (WS2) nanosheets have attracted considerable attention because of their unique optical and electrical properties. Several methods for fabrication of WS2 nanosheets have been developed. However, methods for mass production of high-quality WS2 nanosheets remain challenging. In this study, WS2 nanosheets were fabricated using mechano-chemical ball milling based on the synergetic effects of chemical intercalation and mechanical exfoliation. The ball-milling time was set as a variable for the optimized fabricating process of WS2 nanosheets. Under the optimized conditions, the WS2 nanosheets had lateral sizes of 500-600 nm with either a monolayer or bilayer. They also exhibited high crystallinity in the 2H semiconducting phase. Thus, the proposed method can be applied to the exfoliation of other transition metal dichalcogenides using suitable chemical intercalants. It can also be used with high-performance WS2-based photodiodes and transistors used in practical semiconductor applications.

Characterization of the Water Soluble Organic Fraction Extracted from a Sewage Sludge Amended Soil (Sewage Sludge를 시용(施用)한 토양(土壤)에서 추출(抽出)한 수용성유기물(水溶性有機物)의 화학구조적(化學構造的) 특성(特性))

  • The water soluble organic fractions (WSOF) from an agricultural soil (W), a soil treated with sludge for 6 years ($WS_6$), a sludge-soil mixture incubated for one week ($WS_1$), and sewage sludge (SS) were extracted, purified, and characterized by elemental analysis, functional group determinations, infrared, UV-visible, and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectrosocpy. The SS was characterized by higher organic H, N, and P contents, a higher H/C ratio, and a lower C/N ratio than W. Total acidity carboxyl and phenolic hydroxyl group contents were generally highest in SS, intermediate in $WS_6$ and $WS_1$, and lowest in W. Overall aromatic character and aromatic carboxyl group contents were highest in W, and lowest in SS. Aliphatic proton, aliphatic carboxyl, and phenolic hydroxyl group contents were highest in SS, and lowest in W. Protein decomposition products were the pronounced components in SS, and decreased in concentration as the sludge component in the mixtures decreased. The $^1H$-NMR spectra suggested that the SS-protons were bound to a wider range of functional groups than W-protons. Structural complexities around the aromatic protons followed the following order: SS>$WS_1$>$WS_6$>W.

Cognitive Profile of Children with Williams Syndrome: Comparison with Children with Prader-Willi Syndrome and Down Syndrome

  • Purpose: The objectives were to examine following 2 questions related to cognitive profile for the children with Williams syndrome (WS); 1) Is there a significant advantage for verbal IQ over performance IQ in WS?; 2) Is there selective impairment in visuospatial ability in the children with WS? Materials and Methods: Five children with WS with the age of $90.86{\pm}20.73$ months were compared with 12 children with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) or Down syndrome (DS) with comparable age and IQ. Results: All 5 children with WS showed intellectual disability whose mean scaled scores were $15.71{\pm}9.27$ in verbal subtests and $14.29{\pm}7.50$ in performance subtests, which did not show significant difference. There was no significant difference in the total sum of scaled scores of verbal subtests among WS, PWS and DS. There was no selective impairment in subtests which represented visuospatial tasks for the children with WS. However, the scaled score of object assembly was significantly lower in WS ($2.29{\pm}0.95$) compared to that of PWS ($4.75{\pm}2.77$; P <0.05). Conclusion: The general notion that the children with WS would be relatively strong in verbal function when compared with their overall cognitive function was not observed in this study. The verbal function of the children with WS was not better when compared to the children with DS or PWS. There was no selective impairment of visuospatial function in the children with WS at this age. However, the visuospatial function was significantly low in the children with WS only when compared to the children with PWS.

  • The Web Services Choreogaphy Description Language (WS-CDL) is an XML-based language that describes peer-to-peer collaborations of parties by defining, from a global viewpoint, their common and complementary observable behavior; where ordered message exchanges result in accomplishing a common business goal. In this paper, we survey and analysis the functionality of the WS-CDL, and propose new language, which enhance the WS-CDL for the conversation the message between entities.

  • 웹 서비스는 SOAP, WSDL, UDDI와 같은 표준을 기반으로 인터넷상의 분산된 여러 서비스들을 통합하는 가장 효과적인 방법으로 알려져 있다. 이러한 통합을 위하여 웹 서비스 표준 프로세스 통합모델 언어인 BPEL4WS가 제시되었다. 이와 같은 분산된 서비스 통합 시에 서비스 신뢰성 확보를 위해서는 통합 환경 상의 품질 관리가 필요하나 확실한 대안 책이 없었다. 이에 본 논문에서는 사용자와 공급자 사이의 협정을 통해 품질 보증하는 SLA를 이용하여, BPEL4WS로 통합한 환경에 적합한 품질 보증기법을 제시한다. 또한 제시한 기법의 효율적인 활용을 위한 웹 서비스 통합 프레임워크를 제시한다.

Effects of Vacuum Cooling Followed by Water Spraying on the Quality of Precooked Skipjack Katsuwonus pelamis (진공분무 냉각에 의한 자숙 가다랑어(Katsuwonus pelamis)의 냉각 및 품질 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The cooling of precooked skipjack Katsuwonus pelamis is a critical thermal process in tuna canning because it affects the quality and yield of the canned tuna, as well as productivity. The combined method of vacuum cooling followed by water spraying (VC-WS) was investigated to increase cooling rates, and prevent loss of yield of the precooked tuna during vacuum cooling. For VC-WS, the precooked skipjack was cooled to $30^{\circ}C$ by vacuum at 31 mmHg and then wetted by spraying water for 2 min. The effects of VC-WS on cooling times, cooling loss, color, texture and lipid oxidation of the precooked tuna were compared with conventional spray cooling (SC).The cooling times for precooked skipjack from $75^{\circ}C-30^{\circ}C$ were 11 min for VC-WS and 145 min for SC. The cooling losses were 1.7 % for VC-WS and 1.6 % for SC. Peroxide and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) values of VC-WS were lower than those of SC. The loin of the VC-WS-treated skipjack was brighter and harder than the SC loin, as indicated by higher lightness and hardness values. Based on these results, we believe that the VC-WS process could compensate for the cooling loss of vacuum cooling and minimize changes in quality that occur during cooling of precooked skipjack tuna.

Synthesis and Characterization of Large-Area and Highly Crystalline Tungsten Disulphide (WS2) Atomic Layer by Chemical Vapor Deposition

  • Transition metal dichalcogenides (MoS2, WS2, WSe2, MoSe2, NbS2, NbSe2, etc.) are layered materials that can exhibit semiconducting, metallic and even superconducting behavior. In the bulk form, the semiconducting phases (MoS2, WS2, WSe2, MoSe2) have an indirect band gap. Recently, these layered systems have attracted a great deal of attention mainly due to their complementary electronic properties when compared to other two-dimensional materials, such as graphene (a semimetal) and boron nitride (an insulator). However, these bulk properties could be significantly modified when the system becomes mono-layered; the indirect band gap becomes direct. Such changes in the band structure when reducing the thickness of a WS2 film have important implications for the development of novel applications, such as valleytronics. In this work, we report for the controlled synthesis of large-area (~cm2) single-, bi-, and few-layer WS2 using a two-step process. WOx thin films were deposited onto a Si/SiO2 substrate, and these films were then sulfurized under vacuum in a second step occurring at high temperatures ($750^{\circ}C$). Furthermore, we have developed an efficient route to transfer these WS2 films onto different substrates, using concentrated HF. WS2 films of different thicknesses have been analyzed by optical microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy.

Preparation and Characterization of Canned Oyster Crassostrea gigas in White Sauce (화이트소스를 첨가한 굴(Crassostrea gigas) 통조림의 제조 및 특성)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the composition of canned oyster Crassotrea gigas in white sauce (CO-WS). The proximate composition of CO-WS was 74.1% water, 10.4% crude protein, 4.9% crude lipid, and 3.1% ash. The energy converted based on these percentages was 112.2 kcal/100 g, while the salinity was 1.1 g/100 g. In a taste-intensity test using an electronic tongue, the CO-WS showed higher umami taste intensity than the control (canned oyster in commercial white sauce), whereas the intensities of the other tastes (salty, sour, bitter, and sweet) were lower. Because the odor intensity was low, CO-WS was considered to have a relatively weak odor and showed no difference in hardness compared to the control. Sensory evaluation of CO-WS by a panel yielded higher scores for appearance, taste, and texture, and a lower score for flavor compared to the control. The total amino acid content of CO-WS was 8.91 g/100 g, and its major amino acids were aspartic acid, glutamic acid, and leucine. With respect to mineral content, CO-WS had higher calcium and lower zinc contents than the control. These results suggest that CO-WS has excellent nutritional value.

WS2 Nanoparticles Embedded in Carbon Nanofibers for a Pseudocapacitor (의사 커패시터를 위한 WS2 나노입자가 내제된 탄소나노섬유)

  • Tungsten disulfide (WS2), a typical 2D layerd structure, has received much attention as a pseudocapacitive material because of its high theoretical specific capacity and excellent ion diffusion kinetics. However, WS2 has critical limits such as poor long-term cycling stability owing to its large volume expansion during cycling and low electrical conductivity. Therefore, to increase the high-rate performance and cycling stability for pseudocapacitors, well-dispersed WS2 nanoparticles embedded in carbon nanofibers (WS2-CNFs), including mesopores and S-doping, are prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and sulfurizaiton. These unique nanocomposite electrodes exhibit a high specific capacity (159.6 F g-1 at 10 mV s-1), excellent high-rate performance (81.3 F g-1 at 300 mV s-1), and long-term cycling stability (55.9 % after 1,000 cycles at 100 mV s-1). The increased specific capacity is attributed to well-dispersed WS2 nanoparticles embedded in CNFs that the enlarge active area; the increased high-rate performance is contributed by reduced ion diffusion pathway due to mesoporous CNFs and improved electrical conductivity due to S-doped CNFs; the long-term cycling stability is attributed to the CNFs matrix including WS2 nanoparticles, which effectively prevent large volume expansion.

  • Web services (WS) present a new promising software technology, which provides application-to-application interaction. They are built on the top of existing web protocol and based on open XML standards. Web services are described using WSDL, and the UDDI is a integration directory provide registry of Web Services descriptions. WSDL provides information of Web Services but it is getting more and more important to know more than those provided by WSDL. From WSDL we can not get the information like usage of WS, performance of WS, complexity of WS, usability of WS with other web service. In this paper, we proposed a new method for Web Services so called Public Web Services Analyzer (PWSA). This technique is based on analyzing various public UDDI registries in order to get various kinds of statistics of web services. Those statistics will be used by both web services developers and consumers for finding them suitable services for their needs. PWSA guarantees that it can provide enough information to find right web services for both Web Services Consumers and Web Service Developers.
