시로코 홴의 공력소음 발생에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study on the Generation of Aeroacoustic Sound from Sirocco Fans)

  • Sirocco fans are widely used in HVAC and air conditioning systems, and the noise generated by these machines causes one of the most serious problems. In general, the sirocco fan noise is often dominated by tones at BPF(blade passage frequency) and broadband noise. However, only a few researches have been carried out on predicting the aeroacoustic noise because of the difficulty in obtaining detailed information about the flow field and casing effects on noise radiation. The objective of this study is to develop a prediction method for the unsteady flow field and the acoustic pressure field of a sirocco fan. We assume that the impeller rotates with a constant angular velocity and the flow field around the impeller is incompressible and inviscid. So, a discrete vortex method (DVM) is used to model the centrifugal fan and to calculate the flow field. The force of each element on the blade is calculated by the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Lowson\`s method is used to predict the acoustic source. Reasonable results are obtained not only fur the tonal noise but also far the amplitudes of the broadband noise. Acoustic pressure is proportional to (Ω)2.3, which is the similar value with the measured data.

  • Propeller shall have high efficiency and improved aerodynamic characteristics to get the thru5t to fly at high speed for the Regional turboprop aircraft. That is way Clark-Y airfoil which is used to conventional turboprop aircraft propeller is selected as a blade airfoil. Adkins method is used for aerodynamic design and performance analysis with respect to the propeller design point. Adkins method is based on the vortex-blade element theory which design the propeller to satisfy the condition for minimum energy loss. propeller geometry is generated by varying chord length and pitch angle at design point of Regional turboprop aircraft. The propeller design results indicate that is evaluated to be properly constructed, through analysis of propeller aerodynamic characteristics using the Meshless method and MRF, SM method.

  • 50 m급 비행선의 추진을 위한 복합재 프로펠러를 공력/구조 설계하였으며, 지상 성능 시험을 수행하였다. 먼저 와류-깃요소 이론을 적용하여 비행선의 최대 비행 속도 조건에서 최소 손실을 갖는 45 kW급 프로펠러를 설계하였다. 프로펠러는 직경 2m, 블레이드 수 3, 고정피치 방식을 적용하였으며, 추력 제어를 위해 RPM 조절방식을 채택하였다. 설계한 프로펠러의 성능을 검증하기 위하여 지상정지 상태에서 프로펠러의 피치각을 변화시켜 가며 추력과 토크를 측정하여 이론적 방법으로 계산한 추력계수, 동력계수와 비교하였으며, 시험결과와 이론적 계산 결과는 잘 일치함을 확인하였다.

  • There have been many academic researches on the aerodynamic design of wind turbine based on blade element method (BEM) and momentum theory (MT, or actuating disk theory). However, in the real world, the turbine blade design requires many additional constraints more than theoretical analysis. The standard procedure is studied in the present paper to design new blades for the wind turbine system ranged from the small size from 1 to 10 kW. From the experience of full design of a 10 kW blade, the authors tried to set up a standard procedure for the aerodynamic design based on IEC 61400-2. Wind-turbine scale, rotating speed, and geometrical chord/twist distribution at the segmented span positions are calculated with a suitable BEM/MT code, and the geometrical shape of tip and root should be modified after considering various parameters: wing-tip vortex, aerodynamic noise, turbine efficiency, structural safety, convenience of fabrication, and even economic factor likes price, etc. The evaluated data is passed to the next procedure of structural design, but some of them should still be corresponded with each other: the fluid-structure interaction is one of those problems not yet solved, for example. Consequently, the design procedure of small wind-turbine blades is set up for the mass production of commercial products in this research.

A Numerical and Experimental Study on Dynamics of A Towed Low-Tension Cable

  • The paper presents a numerical and experimental investigation on dynamic behaviors of a towed low tension cable. In the numerical study, an implicit finite difference algorithm is employed for three-dimensional cable equations. Fluid and geometric non-linearity and bending stiffness are considered and solved by Newton-Raphson iteration. Block tri-diagonal matrix method is applied for the fast calculation of the huge size of matrices. In order to verify the numerical results and to see real physical phenomena, an experiment is carried out for a 6m cable in a deep and long towing tank. The cable is towed in two different ways; one is towed at a constant speed and the other is towed at a constant speed with top end horizontal oscillations. Cable tension and shear forces are measured at the top end. Numerical and experimental results are compared with good agreements in most cases but with some differences in a few cases. The differences are due to drag coefficients caused by vortex shedding. In the numerical modeling, non-uniform element length needs to be employed to cope with the sharp variation of tension and shear forces at near top end.

This is a consequence of the strong interaction between the flow discharged from the impeller and the cutoff in the casing. The objective of this study is to develop a prediction method for the unsteady flow field and the acoustic pressure field of a centrifugal pump, and to calculate the effects of small vanes that are attached in original impeller-splitter impeller. We assume that the impeller rotates with a constant angular velocity and the flow field around the impeller is incompressible and inviscid. So, a discrete vortex method(DVM) is used to model the centrifugal pump and to calculate the flow field. The force of each element on the blade is calculated by the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Lowson's method is used to predict the acoustic source. The splitter impeller changes the acoustic characteristics as well as performance. Two-splitter type impeller is good for acoustic characteristics.

중형항공기급 고효율 경량화 복합재 프로펠러 블레이드 설계 연구 (Design on High Efficiency and Light Composite Propeller Blade of Regional Aircraft)

  • 본 연구에서는 한국의 차세대 중형항공기에 사용될 터보프롭 항공기용 고효율 복합재 프로펠러 블레이드의 설계를 수행하였다. 와류 이론과 블레이드 깃 요소 이론을 활용하여 기본 공력설계 및 성능 해석을 수행하였고 공력설계 결과는 상업용 전산유체해석 프로그램인 ANSYS를 이용한 해석을 통해 확인하였다. 프로펠러 구조 설계 시 카본/에폭시 복합재료가 적용되었으며, 경량화와 구조 안정성 개선을 위하여 스킨-스파-폼 샌드위치 구조 형식를 채택하였다. 제안된 프로펠러 블레이드는 공력 및 구조 해석과 시제품 프로펠러 블레이드의 구조 시험을 통하여 높은 효율과 안전한 구조임이 검토되었다.

The objective of this study is to develop a prediction method for the unsteady flow field and the acoustic pressure field of a centrifugal fan and to calculate the effects of rotating velocity, flow rate, cut-off distance and the number of blades and its effects on the noise of the fan. We assume that the impeller rotates with a constant angular velocity and the flow field around the impeller is incompressible and inviscid. So, a discrete vortex method (DVM) is used to model the centrifugal fan and to calculate the flow field. The force of each element on the blade is calculated with the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Lowson's method is used to predict the acoustic source. The cut-off distance is the most important factor effecting the noise generation. Acoustic pressure is proportional to 2.8, which shows the same scaling index as the experimental result. In this paper, the cut-off distance is found to be the dominant parameter offecting the acoustic pressure.

고성능 2단 축류송풍기의 공력설계를 위한 수치해석 및 실험에 관한 연구 (A Numerical Method & Experiments for the Aerodynamic Design of High Performance 2-Stage Axial Flow Fans)

  • A numerical method and experiments for the aerodynamic design of high performance two-stage axial flow fans was carried out. A vortex ring element method used for the aerodynamic analysis of the propellers was extended to the fan-duct system. Fan Performance and velocity profiles at the fan inlet and outlet are compared with experimental data for the validations of numerical method. Performance test was done based on KS B 6311(testing methods for turbo-fans and blowers). The velocity profile was obtained using a 5-hole pitot tube by the non-nulling method. The two stage axial flow fan configurations for the optimal operation conditions were set by using the experimental results for the single rotating axial flow fan and the single stage axial flow fan. The single rotating axial flow fan showed relatively low efficiency due to the swirl velocities behind rotor exit which produced pressure losses. In contrast, the single stage and the two-stage axial flow fans showed performance improvements due to the swirl velocity reduction by the stator. The peak efficiency of the two stage axial flow fan was improved by 21% and 6%, compared to the single rotating axial flow fan and the single stage axial flow fan, respectively.

Numerical Studies of Flow Across End-to-Side Distal Vascular Bypass Graft Anastomoses

  • A numerical simulation of the steady and pulsatile flow across the end-to-side anastomosis was performed In order to understand the role of flow dynamics in the preferential bevel opment of distal anastomotic intimal hyperplasla. The finite element technique was employed to solve two-dimensional unsteady pulsatile flow in that region. The results of the steady flow revealed that low shear stresses occur at the proximally occluded host artery and at the recirculation region in the Inner wall just distal to the toe region of the anastomosis. The nor- mal;zed wall shear rate was increased, as was the recirculation zone size in the host artery of the by-pass graft anastomosis, with increased anastomotic junction angle. In order to min imize the size of the low wall shear region which might result in the intimal hyperplasia in the by-pass graft anastomosis, a smaller anastomotic junction angle is recommended. The pulsatile flow simulation revealed flow that regions of low and ascillating mali shear do exist near the anastomosis as In the steady simulation. The shift of stagnation point depends on the pulsation of the flow. As the flow was accelerated at systole, the stagnation point moved downstream, disappered at early diastole and reappeared during late diastole. Low shear stress was also found along both walls of the occluded proximal artery. However, the diastolic flow behavior is quite different from the steady results. The vortex near the occluded artery moved downstream and inwardly during late systole, and disappeared during diastole. Recirculations proximal to the toe and heel regions were significant during diastole. Shear stress oscillation was found along the opposite wall. The results of the present study revealed that tow shear occurs at the proximally occluded host artery aud the recirculation region in the inner wall Just dlstal to the toe region of the anastomosis. The present study suggested that the regions of fluctuated wall shear stress wit flow separation is correlated with the preferential developing regions of anastomosis neointial fibrous hyperplasia.
