In order to control the tip vortex cavitation occurring around the tip of a rotating propeller blade, researches on the propeller cavitation and blade tip vortex flows have been increased. In this paper, the propeller tip vortex flow for a blunt and sharp tips was studied using an unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations solver based on a cell-centered finite volume method. In numerical open water test, torques, thrusts, pressure distributions and vortex flows were compared for various rotating speeds. To consider a hull wake, the nominal wake was specified in inlet boundary condition. Pressure distributions and vortex flows with the hull wake were investigated for various propeller rotating angles. From the results, it was confirmed that the blunt tip propeller delayed the tip vortex flow.
This study the problem of deposition uniformity observed during Mist-CVD deposition experiments. The TRIZ's ADRIGE algorithm, a problem-solving technique, is utilized to systematically analyze the issue and propose solutions. Through problem and resource analysis, technical contradictions are identified regarding the precursor's volume and its path when it encounters the substrate. To resolve these contradictions, the concept of applying the principle of dimensional change to transform the precursor's three-dimensional path into a one-dimensional path is suggested. The chosen solution involves the design of an enhanced Mist-CVD system, which is evaluated for feasibility and analyzed using computational fluid dynamics. The analysis confirms that the deposition uniformity consistently follows a pattern and demonstrates an improvement in uniformity. The improved Mist-CVD equipment is validated through analysis, providing evidence of its feasibility and yielding satisfactory results.

A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, dubbed SNUFOAM, was developed to predict the performance of ship resistance using a CFD tool kit with open source libraries. SNUFOAM is based on a pressure-based cell-centered finite volume method and includes a turbulence model with wall functions. The mesh sensitivity, such as the skewness and aspect ratio, was evaluated for the convergence. Two wall functions were tested to solve the turbulent flow around a ship, and the one without the assumption of the equilibrium state between turbulent production and dissipation in the log law layer was selected. The turbulent flow around a ship simulated using SNUFOAM was compared to that by a commercial CFD code, FLUENT. SNUFOAM showed the nearly same results as FLUENT and proved to be an alternative to commercial CFD codes for the prediction of ship resistance performance.
The unsteady flow past a circular cylinder which starts rotating or rotary oscillating impulsively from rest in a viscous fluid is investigated for Reynolds numbers Re=200 and 1000, rectilinear speed ratios ${\alpha}$ between 0.5 and 5.0, and forced oscillating frequencies $f_s$ between 0.1 and 2.0. Numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations are obtained by using a finite volume method on an unstructured colocated grid. The objective of the study is to examine the effect of the rotating and rotary oscillating circular cylinder on the flow patterns and dynamics loads. The numerical results reveal that the $K\acute{a}rm\acute{a}n$ vortex street vanishes entirely behind the rotating cylinder when the ratio ${\alpha}$ exceeds the critical value, and the vortex shedding behind the rotary oscillating cylinder undergoes mainly three modes named 'synchronization', 'competition' and 'natural shedding' with the increase of $f_s$. Based on the amplitude spectra analysis of the lift coefficients, the regions of the classification of flow structure modes are presented, which provide important references for the flow control in the ocean engineering.

In this study, the piping system conveying unsteady flow is considered. The effects of coupling between the pipe motion and the velocity and pressure of fluid are included for the dynamic stability and response analysis of the piping system. The dynamic equations for a piping system are derived by Newtonian dynamics. For the momentum and continuity equations, the concept of moving control volume is applied. Thus, the governing equations derived herein are valid for the applications to the vibration problems occurred when a piping system starts up or shuts down and also when the valves and pumps operate. For a simply supported straight pipe, the stability analysis is conducted for various nondimensional parameters. The dynamic responses, in both stable and unstable region of stability chart, are numerically tested by the use of central difference method.
This paper considers the research of the hybrid interrupter which adopts both rotating arc and thermal expansion technology. The operating principle of this device depends on rapid arc rotation due to the magnetic field created by the fault current through a coil which is mounted on contacts and also relies on the principle of thermal expansion created by arc energy in extinguishing chamber and finally causes pressure rise in expansion volume. To develope this type of interrupter, we introduced analytical analysis including electromagnetic and arc fluid simulation and experimental analysis including construction of current source generation facility and arc behavior measurements. In this research, the principle of the interrupting techniques are given and analytical and experimental results of hybrid interrupter which is developed by new technology is introduced.

Resin transfer molding (RTM) is one of the most popular processes for producing fiber reinforced polymer composites. In the manufacture of complex thick composite structures, analysis on flow front advancement on the resin impregnating the multi-layered fiber preform is helpful for the optimization of the process. In this study, three-dimensional mold filling simulation of RTM is carried out by using CVFEM (Control Volume Finite Element Method). On the assumption of isothermal flow of Newtonian fluid, Darcy’s law and continuity equation are used as governing equations. Different permeability tensors employed in each layer are obtained by experiments. Numerically predicted flow front is compared with experimental one in order to validate the numerical results. Flow simulations are conducted in the two mold geometries, rectangular plate and hollow cylinder. Permeability tensor of each layer preform in Cartesian coordinate system is transformed to cylinder coordinates system so that the flow within the multi-layered preforms of the hollow cylinder can be calculated exactly. Our emphasis is on the three dimensional flow analysis for circular three-dimensional braided preform, which shows outstanding mechanical properties such as high impact strength and toughness compared with other conventional two-dimensional laminar-structured preforms.
This paper was a study about noise reduction through flow stabilization in duct using experimental method and numerical analysis at the same time. To determine the fan's type three kinds of fans(axial fan, centrifugal fan, and axial fan with centrifugal type blades) was examined to investigate the suitability for in-line duct. As a result, under the equal number of rotation 2000 RPM, performance of an axial fan with centrifugal type blades was the most superior by 55dBA at 4.3CMM among other fans. After this, analyzed the results of the numerical analysis to find out the optimum design of pitch angle such as $0^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$. The intensity of turbulence was low when pitch angle was $15^{\circ}$ and air volume became peak by 5.08 CMM. It was observed that axis component of velocity increased gradually when pitch angle increased from $0^{\circ}$ to $20^{\circ}$, and embodied noise reduction and improvement of air flow rate through flow stabilization.
In this study, the cooling performance of a liquid CPU cooler using the water/propylene glycol(PG)-based $Al_2O_3$ nanofluids is experimentally investigated. Water/PG-based $Al_2O_3$ nanofluids are manufactured by two-step method with ultrasonic energy for 10 hours. The volume fractions of the nanofluids are 0.25% and 0.35%. Thermal conductivity and viscosity of the nanofluids are measured to theoretically predict the thermal performance of the liquid CPU cooler using performance factor. Performance factor results indicate that the cooling performance of the liquid CPU cooler can be improved using the manufactured nanofluids. To evaluate the cooling performance of the liquid CPU cooler experimentally, temperature differences between ambient air and heater are measured for base fluid and nanofluids respectively. Based on the results, it is shown that performance of the liquid CPU cooler using $Al_2O_3$ nanofluids is improved maximum up to 8.6% at 0.25 Vol.%.

At present, the principle of puffer action in high current interruption is adopted in almost of the EHV(Extra High Voltage) and UHV(Ultra High Voltage) GCB(Gas Circuit Breakers). The thermal interruption capability of these GCBs critically depends on the pressure rise in the puffer cylinder at current zero. The pressure rise in the puffer cylinder depends on the puffer cylinder volume, flow passage and leakage area in the interrupter, stroke curve etc. Recently commercial CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics ) packages have been widely adopted to calculate the pressure distribution in the interrupter. However, there are still several problems with it, e.g. very expensive price, moving boundary problem, computation time, difficulty in using the package etc. Thus, the calculation of the puffer cylinder pressure in simple and relatively correct method is essential in early stage of GCB design. In these paper, the model ing technique and computed results for EHV class GCB (HICO, 145kV 40kA and 362kV 40kA GCB) are presented and compared with available measured results.
