  • Mechanized constructions have been frequently increased in soft ground below sea bed or river bed, for urban tunnel construction, and for underpinning the lower part of major structures in order to construct a safer tunnel considering various risk factors during the tunnel construction. However, it is difficult to estimate the subsidence behavior of the ground surface due to excavation and needs to be easily predicted. Thus, in this study, when a twin tunnel is constructed in the soft ground, it is proposed a simpler equation relating to the settlement behavior and a corrected formula applicable to soft ground and large diameter shield tunnels based on the previously proposed theory by Peck (1969). For this purpose, it was analyzed to long-term measurement values such as the amount of maximum settlement, the subsidence range by ground conditions, and interference volume loss due to the parallel construction, etc. As a result, a equation was suggested to predict the amount of maximum settlement in the soft sediment clay ground where is located at the upper part of the excavation site. It is turned out that the proposed equation is more suitable for measurement data in Korea than Peck (1969)'s.

  • Since holographic data storages read and write information on a volume and the information is processed per page, it has the advantage of high recording density and data transfer rate. However, there are two major drawbacks like 2-dimensional intersymbol interference and interpage interference as the density between pixels increases. Furthermore, a bright page that contains many ON pixels influences the reliable detection of the neighboring pages, which causes the less number of pages stored in the storage volume. We propose a sparse-ON pixel two-dimensional modulation code with the code rate 6/8 for increasing the number of pages stored in the volume. The proposed code is compared to conventional 6/8 balanced code, and it shows similar or a little bit better performance than that of the balanced code. Therefore, the proposed code can increase the recording capacity without loss of the performance.

  • A multi-platform offshore wind farm is receiving the worldwide attention for the sake of maximizing the wind power capacity and the dynamic stability at sea. But, its wind power efficiency is inherently affected by the interference of wake disturbed by the rotating blades, so its layout should be appropriately designed to minimize such wake interference. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to introduce a layout optimization for multi-platform offshore wind farm consisted of 2.5MW spar-type floating wind turbines. The layout is characterized by the arrangement type of wind turbines, the spacing between wind turbines and the orientation of wind farm to the wind direction, but the current study is concerned with the spacing for a square-type wind farm oriented with the specific angle. The design variable and the objective function are defined by the platform length and the total material volume of the wind farm. The maximum torque loss and overlapping section area are taken as the constraints, and their meta-models expressed in terms of the design variable are approximated using the existing experimental data and the geometry interpretation of wake flow.

  • Measuring method being applied for off-shore works is performed by using data logger or manual measuring instrument with wiring the cable connected from the sensor up to the position where measuring is allowed.(upper part of embankment or marine structure) Measuring management by using existing measuring method may be acceptable on the condition that the ground deformation volume(vertical, horizontal) is generally minimal and the site condition is good. But loss of measuring instrument, sensor cable failure or cutting is taken place frequently due to significant change of ground behavior caused by an external force change(embankment, excavation) under very soft ground condition(N value below 0-4). In case of the marine works, in particular, loss rate of measuring instrument is highly represented due to the factors of working barge anchoring, constructional interference and natural disaster. In order to solve these problems, measuring management was performed with employing underground wireless system at the immersed tunnel site. Measuring data was obtained freely under the marine environment by using underground wireless communication and cable cutting potential by ground behavior could be reduced. Measuring cost savings and its installation convenience were maximized by way of off-shore tower installation or cabling and by minimizing constructional interference of off-shore working barge. This case of measuring management was accomplished successfully.

  • We implement the E-plane T-juncition manifold mutiplexer having low insertion loss for output multiplexer of Ku-band satellite transponder. Manifold multiplexer implemented here is composed of 2 channel filters, T-junctions, half-wave waveguide connecting channel filters and manifold, and manifold itself.[1-4] Considering the mass and volume of the satellite transponder, the channel filters are designed to dual-mode.[5-13] And Elliptic filter function is used, which has good characteristics of suppressing the interference between 2 channels. Since the performance of manifold multiplexer depends on the manifold waveguide transmission line length, it's necessary proper analysis. In this paper, we do optimization process of T-junction and other elements by using CAD and implement the manifold multiplexer. An experiment shows that characteristic response of multiplexer matches wel its modeling result.

  • Sun power generation systems which use large capacity centralized inverters have loss of power generation due to cloud and building shadows, pollution, cell deterioration, etc. To minimize loss of power generation, decentralized solar power systems using multiple micro-inverters are being proposed as an alternative. A distributed solar power system consisting of a system-connected system uses power line communication to collect data from the micro-inverters. Power line communication has the advantage of using power lines without separate lines for data transmission, but in distributed solar power generation systems that use a large number of micro-inverters, the bit error rate is less reliable due to the phenomenon caused by limited transmission power, high load interference and noise, variable signal attenuation, and impedance characteristics. So we proposed wireless intelligent controller for micro-inverter that is used to build distributed solar power systems. and we design and implement that. Further, the proposed wireless intelligent controller for micro-inverter was used to establish a small-volume solar power plant to check its function and operation.

  • Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11) uses traditional TCP for reliable data transmission, But it brings the unintentional packet loss which is not congestion loss caused by handoff, interference, and fading in wireless LAN. In wireless LAN, TCP experiences performance degradation because it consumes that the cause of packet loss is congestion, and it decrease the sending rate by activating congestion control algorithm. This paper analyzes that correlation of throughput and buffer size for wireless buffer tuning. We find MBT (Maximum Buffer Threshold) which does not increase the throughput through the analysis, For calculation of MBT, we experiment the throughput by using high volume music data which is creased by real-time performance of piano. The experiment results is shown that buffer tuing based on MBT shows 20.3%, 21.4%, and 45.4% throughput improvement under 5ms RTT, 10ms RTT, and 20ms RTT, respectively, comparing with the throughput of operation system default buffer size, In addition, we describe that The setting of TCP buffer size by exceeding MBT does not have an effect on the performance of TCP.

  • This study presents an experimental investigation of the wear and oxidation of the bristles of a brush seal in a super-heated steam environment. We construct a model reflecting normal force and radial interference to predict the amount of wear. To monitor the volume loss of the bristle induced by the swirl phenomenon of the rotor, we measure the clearance between the rotor and the brush seal by using a non-contact 3-D device. We calculate the area by using the area-wise measurement method. Considering the obvious brush seal wear variables, we use two disks with different roughness($Ra=0.1{\mu}m$ and $100{\mu}m$) to determine the effect of roughness on wear. Considering an actual steam turbine, we utilize a steam generator and super-heater to generate a working fluid (0.95MPa, 523.15K) that has high kinetic energy. We observe the abrasion of the bristles in the hot steam environment through a scanning electron microscope image. This study also conducted energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis for a qualitative evaluation of local chemistry. The results indicate that the wear and elimination of bristles occur on the disk with high roughness, and the weight increases due to oxidation. Furthermore these results, reveal that the bristle oxidation is accelerated more under super-heated steam conditions than under conditions without steam.
