Fesoterodine, an antimuscarinic drug, is widely used to treat overactive bladder syndrome. However, there is little information about its effects on vascular K+ channels. In this study, voltage-dependent K+ (Kv) channel inhibition by fesoterodine was investigated using the patch-clamp technique in rabbit coronary artery. In whole-cell patches, the addition of fesoterodine to the bath inhibited the Kv currents in a concentration-dependent manner, with an IC50 value of 3.19 ± 0.91 μM and a Hill coefficient of 0.56 ± 0.03. Although the drug did not alter the voltage-dependence of steady-state activation, it shifted the steady-state inactivation curve to a more negative potential, suggesting that fesoterodine affects the voltage-sensor of the Kv channel. Inhibition by fesoterodine was significantly enhanced by repetitive train pulses (1 or 2 Hz). Furthermore, it significantly increased the recovery time constant from inactivation, suggesting that the Kv channel inhibition by fesoterodine is use (state)-dependent. Its inhibitory effect disappeared by pretreatment with a Kv 1.5 inhibitor. However, pretreatment with Kv2.1 or Kv7 inhibitors did not affect the inhibitory effects on Kv channels. Based on these results, we conclude that fesoterodine inhibits vascular Kv channels (mainly the Kv1.5 subtype) in a concentration- and use (state)-dependent manner, independent of muscarinic receptor antagonism.

Voltage-dependent K+ (Kv) channels are widely expressed on vascular smooth muscle cells and regulate vascular tone. Here, we explored the inhibitory effect of encainide, a class Ic anti-arrhythmic agent, on Kv channels of vascular smooth muscle from rabbit coronary arteries. Encainide inhibited Kv channels in a concentration-dependent manner with an IC50 value of 8.91 ± 1.75 μM and Hill coefficient of 0.72 ± 0.06. The application of encainide shifted the activation curve toward a more positive potential without modifying the inactivation curve, suggesting that encainide inhibited Kv channels by altering the gating property of channel activation. The inhibition by encainide was not significantly affected by train pulses (1 and 2 Hz), indicating that the inhibition is not use (state)-dependent. The inhibitory effect of encainide was reduced by pretreatment with the Kv1.5 subtype inhibitor. However, pretreatment with the Kv2.1 subtype inhibitor did not alter the inhibitory effects of encainide on Kv currents. Based on these results, encainide inhibits vascular Kv channels in a concentration-dependent and use (state)-independent manner by altering the voltage sensor of the channels. Furthermore, Kv1.5 is the main Kv subtype involved in the effect of encainide.
This study was carried out to elucidate the excitatory mechanisms of Substance P in the antral circular muscle, using isometric contraction recording, conventional microelectrode method and whole-cell patch clamp technique. Substance P produced tonic and phasic contractions in a dose-dependent manner and depolarized membrane potential with increased amplitude of slow waves in muscle strips. Voltage-dependent $Ca^{2+}$ currents were increased by the application of Substance P from a holding potential of -60mV to 50mV in 10mV steps and this effect was blocked by the addition of an antagonist. Also Substance P increased transient and spontaneous oscillatory $K^+$ outward currents. The enhanced outward currents were abolished by apamin in dispersed single cells. These results suggest that the depolarization of membrane potential by Substance P activates voltage-dependent $Ca^{2+}$ channels, which represents an excitatory response in the antral circular muscle and led to an increase in $Ca^{2+}\;activated\;K^+\;currents$.
In this study, we evaluated the temperature-dependent characteristics of homojunction InGaAs vertical Fin-shaped Tunnel Field-Effect Transistors (Fin TFETs), which were fabricated using a novel nano-fin patterning technique in which the Au electroplating and the high-temperature InGaAs dry-etching processes were combined. The fabricated homojunction InGaAs vertical Fin TFETs, with a fin width and gate length of 60 nm and 100 nm, respectively, exhibited excellent device characteristics, such as a minimum subthreshold swing of 80 mV/decade for drain voltage (VDS) = 0.3 V at 300 K. We also analyzed the temperature-dependent characteristics of the fabricated TFETs and confirmed that the on-state characteristics were insensitive to temperature variations. From 77 K to 300 K, the subthreshold swing at gate voltage (VGS) = threshold voltage (VT), and it was constant at 115 mV/decade, thereby indicating that the conduction mechanism through band-to-band tunneling influenced the on-state characteristics of the devices.

In this paper, RF Capacitance-Voltage(C-V) curve of short-channel MOSFET has been extracted from the room temperature to $225^{\circ}C$ using a RF method based on measured S-parameter data, and its high-temperature dependent characteristics are empirically modeled. It is observed that the voltage shift according to the variation of temperature in the weak inversion region of RF C-V curves is lower than the threshold voltage shift, but it is confirmed that this phenomenon is unexplainable with a long-channel theoretical C-V equation. The new empirical equation is developed for high-temperature dependent modeling of short-channel MOSFET C-V curves. The accuracy of this equation is demonstrated by observing good agreements between the modeled and measured C-V data in the wide range of temperature. It is also confirmed that the channel capacitance decreases with increasing temperature at high gate voltage.
There is evidence that noradrenaline enhances spontaneous contractions dose-dependently in guinea-pig antral circular muscle. To investigate the mechanism of this excitatory action, slow waves and membrane currents were recorded using conventional microelectrode techniques in muscle strips and the whole cell patch clamp technique in isolated gastric myocytes. On recording slow waves, noradrenaline $(10^{-5}\;M)$ induced the hyperpolarization of the membrane potential, although the shape of the slow waves became tall and steep. Also, spike potentiaIs occurred at the peaks of slow waves. These changes were completely reversed by administration of phentolamine $(10^{-5}\;M),\;an\;{\alpha}-adrenoceptor$ blocker. Noradrenaline-induced hyperpolarization was blocked by apamin $(10^{-7}\;M)$, a blocker of a class of $Ca^{2+}\;-dependent\;K^+$ channels. To investigate the mechanisms for these effects, we performed whole cell patch clamp experiments. Norndrenaline increased voltage-dependent $Ca^{2+}$ currents in the whole range of test potentials. Noradrenaline also increased $Ca^{2+}\;-dependent\;K^+$\;currents, and this effects was abolished by apamin. These results suggest that the increase in amplitude and the generation of spike potentials on slow waves was caused by the activation of voltage-dependent $Ca^{2+}$ channel via adrenoceptors, and hyperpolarization of the membrane potential was mediated by activation of apamin-sensitive $Ca^{2+}\;-dependent\;K^+\;channels$.
We have reported that dopamine potentiates spontaneous contractions dose-dependently in guinea-pig antral circular muscle strips (Hwang et al, 1991). To clarify the underlying excitatory mechanism of dopamine on the gastric smooth muscle, the effects of dopamine on voltage-dependent $Ca^{2+}\;currents\;and\;Ca^{2+}\;-dependent\;K^+\;currents$ were observed in enzymatically dispersed guinea-pig gastric myocytes using the whole-cell voltage-clamp technique. Experiments were also done using isometric tension recording and conventional intracellular microelectrode techniques. 1) The effect of dopamine on the spontaneous contraction of antral circular muscle strips of the guinea-pig was excitatory in a dose-dependent manner, and was blocked by phentolamine, an ${\alpha}-adrenoceptor$ blocker. 2) The slow waves were not changed by dopamine. 3) The voltage-operated inward $Ca^{2+}$ current was not influenced by dopamine. 4) The $Ca^{2+}\;-dependent\;K^+$ outward current, which might reflect the changes of intracellular calcium concentration, was enhanced by dopamine. This effect was abolished by phentolamine. 5) The enhancing effect of dopamine on the $Ca^{2+}\;-dependent\;K^+$ current disappeared with heparin which is known to block the action of $InsP_3$. From these results, it is suggested that dopamine acts via $InsP_3-mediated\;Ca^{2+}$ mobilization from intracellular stores and such action potentiates the spontaneous contraction of guinea-pig gastric smooth muscle.

We investigated the quench velocity of superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) dependent on the source voltage. $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ (YBCO) thin film was used as the current limiting element for SFCL. The analysis on the quench velocity of SFCL is essential to determine the capacity of circuit breaker (CB) or coordinate with CB. Generally, the quench velocity of SFCL is related with the short-circuit current. To change the short-circuit current, in this paper, the amplitude of the power source voltage is adjusted. Through the fault current limiting experiments, the quench velocity of SFCL was confirmed to increase fast as the source voltage increased. On the other hand, the peak limited current was shown to increase with steady rate of increase.
We propose a novel approach to measure the residual phase noise (RPN) of a photodiode (PD) based on a two-tone correlation method. Compared with the previous measurements of the RPNs of PDs, this method is more convenient in practical application. In this method, two microwave sources and other components were placed in two isolated links sharing the same PD, so the noises of them were uncorrelated. With an FFT analyzer, the uncorrelated noises could be mostly suppressed while only the RPN of the PD was preserved. Voltage-dependent nonlinearities of PDs were studied previously. In this letter, we investigate the relationship between the RPN of the PD and the bias voltage on the PD. By changing the bias voltage, the difference of the RPN can be up to 10 dB.
In this paper, voltage source FEA considering magnetic hysteresis characteristics is presented. Magnetization dependent model is used as a hysteresis model. The unknowns in finite element equation are the magnetic vector potential and current. Core model is analyzed and current waveform is compared with the experimental one. It is found that current can be accurately predicted with the voltage variation.
