A new method for reducing the common-mode current generated by the voltage variations in a two-inverter air conditioner system by applying a synchronized pulse-width modulation (PWM) strategy is proposed. The PWM signals of the master-mode inverter are generated based on the reference voltage, while those of the slave-mode inverter are output in the opposite direction when the master-mode inverter changes its switching state. However, the slave-mode control results in a mismatch between the reference voltage and the actual output voltage that is modified by synchronized control operation. The proposed method is capable of reducing and controlling this voltage error by performing signal selection in the vector space of the slave-mode inverter, which mitigates the distortion of the phase current. The efficacy of this method in reducing conducted emissions has been validated both theoretically and experimentally.
The three-phase four-wire shunt active power filter (APF) is an effective method to solve the harmonic problem in three-phase four-wire power systems. In addition, it has two possible topologies, a four-leg inverter and a three-leg inverter with a split-capacitor. There are some studies investigating DC-link voltage control in three-phase four-wire APFs. However, when compared to the four-leg inverter topology, maintaining the balance between the DC-link upper and lower capacitor voltages becomes a unique problem in the three-leg inverter with a split-capacitor topology, and previous studies seldom pay attention to this fact. In this paper, the influence of the balance between the two DC-link voltages on the compensation performance, and the influence of the voltage balance controller on the compensation performance, are analyzed. To achieve the balance between the two DC-link capacitor voltages, and to avoid the adverse effect the voltage balance controller has on the APF compensation performance, a new DC-link voltage balance control strategy for the three-phase four-wire split-capacitor APF is proposed. Representative simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the analysis and the proposed DC-link voltage balance control strategy.
Power quality is a critical issue in distribution systems, where a dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is commonly used to mitigate the voltage disturbances for loads. This paper deals with a nonlinear control for the three-phase four-wire (3P-4W) DVR under a grid voltage unbalance and nonlinear loads in the distribution system, where a novel control scheme based on the feedback linearization technique is proposed. Through feedback linearization, a nonlinear model of a DVR with a PWM voltage-source inverter (VSI) and LC filters is linearized. Then, the controller design of the linearized model is performed by applying the linear control theory, where the load voltages are kept constant by controlling the d-q-0 axis components of the DVR output voltages. To keep the load voltage unchanged, an in-phase compensation strategy is employed, where the load voltages are recovered to be the same as the previous voltage without a change in the magnitude. With this strategy, the performance of the DVR becomes faster and more stable even under unbalanced source voltages and nonlinear loads. The validity of the proposed control strategy has been verified by simulation and experimental results.
This paper proposes an overmodulation strategy for space-vector PWM(SVPWM). The overmodulation strategy increases a fundamental output voltage and improves a voltage utilization up to the maximum in the overmodulation region. To maintain a linearity of the relation between a reference voltage and a fundamental output voltage, this paper suggests a compensation voltage, whose magnitude or phase is modified to the proposed control scheme. The practical implementation is simple and it is applied to improve an output voltage of SVPWM controlled AC Motor in the steady-state. The characteristic of the proposed strategy is confirmed by simulations and experiments for a V/F control of a induction motor.
In this paper, a high performance current control strategy for a Brushless DC Motor is presented. The proposed strategy is based on the ramp comparison PI current control with the predictive voltage compensation. The proposed strategy is compared with the hysteresis current control strategy. The proposed method can improve the current waveforms, and it can reduce the torque ripples. So the proposed strategy is suitable to a high performance current control strategy for a Brushless DC Motor. The simulation and experimental results for a laboratory Brushless DC motor drive system confirm the validity of the proposed strategy.
In this paper, a new control algorithm for the dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is proposed to regulate the load terminal voltage during various power quality problems that include sag, swell, harmonics and unbalance in the voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC). The proposed control strategy is an Adaline (Adaptive linear element) Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and is used to control a capacitor supported DVR for power quality improvement. A capacitor supported DVR does not need any active power during steady state because the voltage injected is in quadrature with the feeder current. The control of the DVR is implemented through derived reference load terminal voltages. The proposed control strategy is validated through extensive simulation studies using the MATLAB software with its Simulink and SimPower System (SPS) toolboxes. The DVR is found suitable to support its dc bus voltage through the control under various disturbances.
In grid-connected converter control, grid voltage feedforward is usually introduced to suppress the influence of grid voltage distortion on the converter's grid-side AC current. However, owing to the time-delay in control systems, the suppression effect of the grid voltage distortion is seriously affected. In this paper, the positive effects of the grid voltage feedforward control are analyzed in detail, and the time-delay caused by the low-pass filter (LPF) in the voltage filtering circuits and digital control are summarized. In order to reduce the time-delay effect on the performance of the feedforward control, a voltage feedforward control strategy with time-delay compensation is proposed, in which, a leading correction of the feedforward voltage is used. The optimal leading step used in this strategy is derived from analyzing the phase-frequency characteristics of a LPF and the implementation of digital control. By using the optimal leading step, the delay in the feedforward path can be further counteracted so that the performance of the feedforward control in terms of suppressing the influence of grid voltage distortion on the converter output current can be improved. The validity of the proposed method is verified through simulation and experiment results.
This paper proposed a novel double closed control strategy for single-phase voltage source pulse width modulation (PWM) rectifier based on active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) and dq current decoupling control. First, the mathematical model of the single-phase PWM rectifier in the d-q axis synchronous rotating reference frame is established by constructing a virtual component using a second-order generalized integrator (SOGI). Then, the mathematical model is simplified according to the active power conservation, and the first-order equation of single-phase PWM rectifier voltage outer loop is acquired. A linear auto-disturbance rejection controller is used to design the voltage outer loop according to the first-order equation. Finally, the proposed control strategy and the traditional PI control are compared and verified by simulation and physical experiments. Both simulation and experimental results confirm that the proposed control strategy has excellent dynamic performance and strong rejection ability to disturbances.
Based on the inherent relationship between dc-bus voltage and grid feeding active power, two dc-bus voltage regulators with different references are adopted for a grid-connected PV inverter operating in both normal grid voltage mode and low grid voltage mode. In the proposed scheme, an additional dc-bus voltage regulator paralleled with maximum power point tracking controller is used to guarantee the reliability of the low voltage ride-through (LVRT) of the inverter. Unlike conventional LVRT strategies, the proposed strategy does not require detecting grid voltage sag fault in terms of realizing LVRT. Moreover, the developed method does not have switching operations. The proposed technique can also enhance the stability of a power system in case of varying environmental conditions during a low grid voltage period. The operation principle of the presented LVRT control strategy is presented in detail, together with the design guidelines for the key parameters. Finally, a 3 kW prototype is built to validate the feasibility of the proposed LVRT strategy.

This paper presents a topology structure and control method for an input-parallel-output-series(IPOS) inverter system which is suitable for high input current, high output voltage, and high power applications. In order to ensure the normal operation of the IPOS inverter system, the control method should achieve input current sharing(ICS) and output voltage sharing(OVS) among constituent modules. Through the analysis in this paper, ICS is automatically achieved as long as OVS is controlled. The IPOS inverter system is controlled by a three-loop control system which is composed of an outer common-output voltage loop, inner current loops and voltage sharing loops. Simulation results show that this control strategy can achieve low total harmonic distortion(THD) in the system output voltage, fast dynamic response, and good output voltage sharing performance.
