  • Voice user interface has become a commercially viable and extensive interaction mechanism with the development of voice assistants. Despite the popularity of voice assistants, the academic community does not utterly understand about what, when, and how users chat with them. Chatting with a voice assistant is crucial as it defines how a user will seek the help of the assistant in the future. This study aims to cover the essence and construct of conversational AI, to develop a classification method to deal with user utterances, and, most importantly, to understand about what, when, and how Chinese users chat with voice assistants. We collected user utterances from the real conventional database of a commercial voice assistant, NetEase Sing in China. We also identified different utterance categories on the basis of previous studies and real usage conditions and annotated the utterances with 17 labels. Furthermore, we found that the three top reasons for the usage of voice assistants in China are the following: (1) greeting, (2) function, and (3) music. Chinese users like to interact with voice assistants at night from 7 PM to 10 PM, and they are polite toward the assistants. The whole percentage of negative feedback utterances is less than 6%, which is considerably low. These findings appear to be useful in voice interaction designs for intelligent hardware.

  • Nowadays, online messengers are the main communication tool of modern people. Currently, not only messengers that communicate based on text and images, but also services that can interact in real time through voice or screen sharing are actively used by the MZs. This study aims to figure out 1) the motivation of users of voice chat services, and 2) to explore the influence of motivation for use on satisfaction that one of the factors that determine the user's experience. As a result, five major motivations for using voice chat service(Relationship formation, Usefulness, Relationship maintenance, communication supplementation, and distance overcoming) were found. Among them 'Usefulness' and 'Relationship maintenance had a positive effect on user satisfaction. This study, highlighted the various needs of users who communicate in a non-face-to-face environments as well as factors to be satisfied for their positive experiences. These results should be actively used in the online communications market.

  • In this paper, we propose a solution to apply a proximity voice dialog system to voice dialog technology, one of the interaction systems in multimedia environments. A voice dialog between multiple users in a multimedia space is designed by adjusting the volume of the voice according to the distance between the user avatars and muting the user who is beyond the audible distance. The main feature of this research is a reliable UDP-based active server system that delivers low-quality voice data to users who are far away based on distance and does not transmit voice data to users who enter the inaudible area for economic development. The performance of the proposed system was measured in a previously completed project based on the Unity game engine, and it is expected that the system proposed in this research will be actively used in environments that provide interaction between multiple users such as met averse content and real-time battle action games.

  • Communication is one of the very important factor in MMORPGs where a large number of users participate at the same time. The voice chatting system, which was appeared in the development process of the chatting system, failed in Korea but it was a great success in China. The purpose of this study is to analyze this cause. The research scope of this study is as follows. We set the range of this study from 2003 to 2015. This period covers the beginning of the growth of the Chinese game industry up to the present. The research target games are MMORPGs, which ranked 1st in sales and concurrent users. In the research and survey analysis process, various factors such as the input speed of Chinese and Korean characters and the relationship between men and women were investigated and analyzed. In conclusion, chatting system in Chinese MMORPGs has developed into three stages and we found out that voice chatting in China was relatively popularized rather than in Korea. China's slow typing speed and excellent voice chatting system were the main factors.

  • In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based personalized senior care service application. The proposed application uses Speech to Text technology to convert the user's speech into text and uses it as input to Autogen, an interactive multi-agent large-scale language model developed by Microsoft, for user convenience. Autogen uses data from previous conversations between the senior and ChatBot to understand the other user's intent and respond to the response, and then uses a back-end agent to create a wish list, a shared calendar, and a greeting message with the other user's voice through a deep learning model for voice cloning. Additionally, the application can perform home IoT services with SKT's AI speaker (NUGU). The proposed application is expected to contribute to future AI-based senior care technology.

  • A random chat application is a type of social dating application that helps people find a lover or spouse by randomly connecting and providing services such as text, voice and video chat. Recently, there has been globally a rapid increase in its use due to the fact that it provides people to quick and convenient encounters at low cost. However, it is used as one of method to prostitute or to trade drugs and become a cause of violent crimes due to various criminal occurring after actual meeting between app users. For this reason, a random chat application is likely to provide proof of prostitution or drug trade and clues to arrest rape, kidnapping and murder suspects. Thus, it is necessary to analyse random chat applications from the viewpoint of digital forensics investigation, but there is no related research at all. Therefore, in this paper, we analyzed artifacts of 6 Korea random chat application's user behaviors; Ranchat, AngTalk, SsumgThing, DaTalk, EveryTalk and Sail. As a result, we found that it is remain on mobile device that time and contents of message transmission/reception, sender/receiver, friend profile and user account creation time when user is using the applications.

  • Now that we are entering an aging society, the user interface for new devices and IoT technology is very inconvenient for senior generation. To improve this, we propose an AI technology-based intelligent senior assistant voice recognition system. This system implements Cloud platform based API to accumulate data for machine learning processing, provides content for diagnosis and prevention of dementia, and provide chat-bot content for senior generation. We hope that senior generations will increase the accessibility and convenience of IoT devices and new technology devices with our system.

  • This study explores effects of two types of chatbots - voice-based and text-based - on Korean EFL learners' speaking competence and learner perception. Participants were 80 freshmen students taking an English-speaking class at a university in Korea. They were divided into two experimental groups at random. During the sixteen-week experimental period, participants engaged in 10 chat sessions with the two different types of chatbots. To take a close examination of effects on the improvement of speaking competence, they took the TOEIC speaking test as pre- and post-tests. Structured questionnaire-based surveys were conducted before and after treatment to determine if there are changes in perception. Findings reveal two chatbots effectively contribute to improvement of speaking competence among EFL learners. Particularly, the voice-based chatbot was as effective as the text-based chatbot. An analysis of survey results indicates perception of chatbot-assisted language learning changed positively over time. In particular, most participants preferred voice-based chatbot over text-based chatbot. This study provides insight on the use of chatbots in EFL learning, suggesting that EFL teachers should integrate chatbot technology in their classrooms.

  • As population aging progresses, there is a growing demand for IT technology that can relieve the psychological anxiety of the elderly living alone, recognize the dangerous situation, and check the family members' affection. In this paper, we describe the development of a speech recognition speaker that enable senior users to give simple interactive commands by voice and monitor the status of the user. The speaker analyzes the user's voice, grasps the conversation contents through the chatbot, connects the desired service to the user, and provides the result again by voice. By using this speaker, senior users can feel relaxed by natural conversation, and can monitor the status of danger more easily.

  • Second Life is a massive multi-user on-line environment; "a 3D virtual world where users can socialize, connect and create using voice and text chat" (http://www.secondlife.com). The paper explores the process and methods to establish a contemporary art exhibition that incudes various shapes and characteristics of art; paintings, 3D sculptures, time-based video arts, technical based arts, and so on. We have also discuss about the technical limitations to make virtual museums in the Second Life and recognitions between human and art works.
