The assistive devices for disabled people are being highlighted even in industrial aspects through the policy and support for disabled people, enactment of regulation for the improvement of accessibility of disabled, technological innovation and product development. Recently, internet access with the sense of touch and hearing and utilizing electronic publishing contents and e-mailing are being convenient through the product of ICT development such as screen reader for visually impaired people, braille display, screen enlarger, text converter and others. Even so, in rapidly changing digital media smart era, the accessibility of visually impaired people is still poor and assistive devices and alternative formats are in need of improvement. Therefore, in aspect of the research and development innovation, this study proposes the implementation directions for improvement of accessibility by analyzing the current situation and structure of alternative formats and assistive devices for visually impaired people. As a result, in the future, various types of digital information are expected to be converted into a customized and realistic forms and distributed through a dedicated disability products or smart devices.

The railroad station building is a public facility that many people use. The disabled persons cannot move as freely as the ordinary persons do, so the facility shall be considered on this matter. We reviewed on the features of the retarded, visually handicapped and mentally retarded persons upon moving, and calculated the minimum space required in their move, access and use of the reachable space, and we also analyzed the design factors so that the prior guidance can be considered for the visually handicapped such as installation of guidance facility, change of finishing material and Braille points block handrail to avoid obstacles for the use of senses of touch, hearing and remained eyesight of the visually handicapped. In addition, we also analyzed the requests of general design totally to analyze and arrange the design factors with the thought that the facility for the handicapped shall be useful for the ordinary people as well as the handicapped.

Welfare centers for disabled person which are typical facilities in Korea are classified into two catagories One is general welfare center for all type of disabled persons and the other is special welfare centers for special disabilities such as visually handicapped persons, hearing-impaired persons and the physically disabled. In this study the movements of disabled persons in daily lifes were measured and many evacuation drills in welfare centers were conducted for the achievement of basic data such as velocities and evacuation patterns of disabled persons The evacuation patterns are characterized by different kinds of disabilities.

This research seeks to clarify correlationship between satisfaction of visually impaired, hearing impaired and mentally disabled mothers and their burden of raising their children and whether communication between their children mediates their relationship. This research tries to set a standard performing method to alleviate burden of raising children and devise an effective parenting method. The study was done in cooperation with 13 welfare centers for the disabled in the Seoul area, 23 and performed 300 questionnaires were distributed. Hearing impaired person had answered by themselves, and visually impaired were provided with disability aid, by reading the questionnaire to them. 210 responses were collected, and 187 were used for final analysis. Analysis showed that burden of fostering showed a negative correlation between satisfaction as a mother and availability for communication. Moreover, communication with the children were shown to mediate the satisfaction as a parent and burden of raising the children. Thus, the goal is to reduce the burden of fostering for female disabled and increase their satisfaction as a parent as well as enhancing their communicational skills.

Bidet is widely used and is being developed for multipurpose. However, use of this bidet varies by the elderly and disabled people. Therefore, this research compares and analyze need of bidet for elderly and disabled people and by many different types. This survey was conducted targeting 39 elderly and 120 disabled people. This survey is consist of questions that varies by bidet companies and includes questions like UI cognitive abilities, automatic water flushing, position of control box and necessary of embossment for icons. As a result, elderly and disabled people showed similar in result but for visually impaired person, the ratio of preference showed 1:9 which is opposite. As for visually impaired person, the ratio of preference showed 1:9 which is pretty high.

Private universities are going through difficulties in improving facilities for the disabled students due to financial reasons. Extension elevators, grips on both sides of the hallways for the visually disabled, handrails on the walls of ramps and stairs in the existing building, and improvement of the dormitory chambers are some items of such facilities in this analysis of MyongJi University. Hence, financial support based on the long-term plans and evaluations from the National Treasury to private universities with financial stringencies, will be a critical promotion in appropriating educational budgets and executing corresponding funds. This will eventually bring equal development of educational welfare for the disabled students among national, public, and private universities.

This cross sectional study was conducted in the city of Taiz, Yemen, during the period from August 2006 to August 2007 in order to investigate the seroprevalence and incidence of toxoplasmosis among apparently healthy children (AHC) and visually and/or hearing disabled children (DC). The seroprevalence was 16.0% among AHC compared to 32.5% among DC. The effect of gender was clear as the seroprevalence rate was significantly higher among females (18.3 and 43.8% for AHC and DC, respectively) than males (13.8 and 25% for AHC and DC, respectively). The seroprevalence was proportionally increased with the age, and the highest rates (20.9 and 53.0%) were reported among the oldest age group (> 10-14 years) for AHC and DC groups, respectively. The incidence rate was also higher (4.2%) in DC group compared to AHC group (2.4%) during 1 year period. These data indicate that the seroprevalence and incidence of toxoplasmosis are significantly higher in DC group than those of AHC group. We need to check further relationship between toxoplasmosis and visual and/or hearing disability.

For people with physical or sensory limitations, broadcasting is the main means of information acquisition and leisure. Recently, changes in the media environment, such as convergence of broadcasting and communication, digital mobile conversion of broadcasting, and active media usage behavior of users, make broadcasting accessibility of the disabled difficult, and as a result, the information gap between the disabled and the non-disabled is increasing. A notice on broadcasting rights for the disabled was enacted in consequence of the amendment of the Broadcasting Law in July 2011 and the web accessibility guideline became more effective with the amendment of the National Informatization Act in 2013 so that legal basis for the right of media access for the disabled was established. However, media services for them are still lacking quantitatively and qualitatively. In this study, we describe the present status of the audio description service for the visually impaired, and analyze the results of the questionnaire survey on the usage status, satisfaction and improvement requirements of the audio description service for 100 visually impaired people.

The purpose of this paper is that which behavior is affected by the storytelling for the visually impaired children. I had a depth interview with the children and their parents who were Participated in the storytelling class, the storytelling teacher and the librarian. And then the material was analysed by the grounded theory. As a result of this research, storytelling is very helpful for the visually impaired children to improve their interest in reading, learning ability and their sociality.

It is a challenge for visually impaired people to access unfamiliar environments independently, hence the quality of life is reduced, and safety of life is compromised. An accurate and reliable door detection system comprising of way finding and indoor navigation can be beneficial for a large number of autonomous and mobile applications for visually impaired people. This paper illustrates an image-based door detection scheme for visually impaired people using stable features (edges and corners) including color averaging and image resizing. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme shows a significant improvement when compared with existing scheme.
