Improved Method for Angle-of-View Measurement of Display Devices

  • With increasing demand for better FPD image quality, better evaluation metrics and advanced display quality measurement methods are required to meet these needs. There are many measurement methods to evaluate viewing angle of the various different display devices. However, these methods, which include luminance drop, color shift, and contrast ratio decrease, are imperfect considering that human perception does not completely correlate to these methods. In this paper, we propose a new method for measuring perceptual angle of FPDs considering human visual perception, which uses color space of the color appearance model.

  • This paper proposes an digital image watermarking method based on discrete wavelet transform(DWT) and spatial perceptual properties of human visula system. first, an digital image is transformed by DWT and inserted gaussian watermark into the frequency domain. To increase the robustness and perceptual invisibility of watermark, the proposed algorithm is combined with the characteristics of digital image and human visual system. The proposed method is invisible and blind watermarking which the original image is not required to detect watermarks. Simulation results show that the proposed method is robust to the general attack such as JPEG compression, enhancement, noise, cropping, and filtering etc.

Image Deduplication Based on Hashing and Clustering in Cloud Storage

  • With the continuous development of cloud storage, plenty of redundant data exists in cloud storage, especially multimedia data such as images and videos. Data deduplication is a data reduction technology that significantly reduces storage requirements and increases bandwidth efficiency. To ensure data security, users typically encrypt data before uploading it. However, there is a contradiction between data encryption and deduplication. Existing deduplication methods for regular files cannot be applied to image deduplication because images need to be detected based on visual content. In this paper, we propose a secure image deduplication scheme based on hashing and clustering, which combines a novel perceptual hash algorithm based on Local Binary Pattern. In this scheme, the hash value of the image is used as the fingerprint to perform deduplication, and the image is transmitted in an encrypted form. Images are clustered to reduce the time complexity of deduplication. The proposed scheme can ensure the security of images and improve deduplication accuracy. The comparison with other image deduplication schemes demonstrates that our scheme has somewhat better performance.

  • The visual activity comes first in the commodities marketing, which emphasizes the importance of the external appearance of package. Package expresses all the visual characters including colors, logos, phrases, and specific features and other design qualities. Package gives the first impression of these features strongly to the viewers. I surveyed and analyzed the objective factors of visual phenomena in seeing and recognizing goods. Especially I tried to deal with the theoretical background and purchase behavior of consumers. I also tried to find out what the first and largest stimuli are when consumers buy goods. In addition to this, I analyzed the priority order of those elements to give reference to others who would design package.

Individual Difference Effects on Perceptual Skill Learning and Transfer (시각적 기술 학습과 전이에 미치는 개인차의 효과)

  • This research examined the effects of individual differences on visual discrimination skill teaming and its transfer to novel stimuli. Individual participants were categorized as having an analytic or holistic cognitive style, high or low working memory capacity, and high or low levels of rationality, experientiality, and adaptive decision-making styles. Participants received easy or difficult training for the serially presented discrimination task, and then transferred to novel discriminations. Training content interacted with cognitive style and working memory capacity to affect transfer accuracy performance, but individual differences in decision-making styles did not affect transfer performance. Results suggest individual differences should be taken into account when designing an interface for visual discrimination.

  • For mobile robot, recognizing its current location is very important to navigate autonomously. Especially, loop closing detection that robot recognize location where it has visited before is a kernel problem to solve localization. A considerable amount of research has been conducted on loop closing detection and localization based on appearance because vision sensor has an advantage in terms of costs and various approaching methods to solve this problem. In case of scenes that consist of repeated structures like in corridors, perceptual aliasing in which, the two different locations are recognized as the same, occurs frequently. In this paper, we propose an improved method to recognize location in the scenes which have similar structures. We extracted salient regions from images using visual attention model and calculated weights using distinctive features in the salient region. It makes possible to emphasize unique features in the scene to classify similar-looking locations. In the results of corridor recognition experiments, proposed method showed improved recognition performance. It shows 78.2% in the accuracy of single floor corridor recognition and 71.5% for multi floor corridors recognition.

A Comparison of Two Procedures to Assess Visual Perceptual Skills of Children With Cerebral Palsy (뇌성마비의 시 지각 검사를 위한 평가도구의 비교)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 Motor-Free Visual Perception Test (MVPT)와 Mariannene Frostig Developmental Test of Visual Perception (DTVP)을 사용하여 뇌성마비 아동과 정상아동의 시 지각 능력의 차이를 알아보고, 뇌성마비의 사지마비군과 양하지마비군, 그리고 정상아동군에서 두 평가도구의 결과에서 제시한 시 지각능력의 차이를 비교하기 위한 것이다. 뇌성마비 아동 21명(사지마비 11명, 양하지마비 10명)과 정상아동 8명을 대상으로 하였다. 대상의 연령범위는 4세에서 8.5세이었다. 시 지각 능력을 평가하기 위하여 운동기능을 포함하지 않은 MVPT와 운동기능을 포함한 DTVT를 사용하였다. 평가과정과 방법은 표준화된 지침서에 따라 수행하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS를 사용하여 Wilcoxon signed rank test와 Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis를 하였다. MVPT와 DTVP의 지각지수를 뇌성마비 아동과 정상아동을 비교한 결과 뇌성마비 아동의 지각지수가 정상 아동보다 유의하게 낮았다. 아동의 교정연령과 MVPT와 DTVP의 지각연령의 차(CA-PA)를 사지마비군, 양하지마비군, 그리고 정상군과 비교한 결과 정상군에서는 두 평가도구 간의 차이가 없었으나, 사지마비군에서는 두 평가도구 사이에 유의한 차이가 있었다. 이 연구의 결과는 뇌성마비 아동의 시 지각능력을 평가하기 위한 도구로 MVPT의 사용을 제시하였다.

A Study on the Expression by Anamorphose Phenomenon (아나모르포즈(anamorphose)지각현상에 의한 공간 표현 연구)

  • Anamorphosis is highly favored in modern days as the atmosphere of pursuing unusual manners is growing while transformation and distortion of images are freely available. This research is to understand the affect of these distorted images on space designs and the close connection between anamorphosis and visual perceptions, and to identify the new perceptual phenomenon created through it, and the methods of expressing those. Four expressional methods were defined through the process of studying Anamorphosis based on its definition by Niceron, examining artworks such as paintings and photographs, and case-studying example spaces of visual perception experiments. Expressing anamorphosis through visual perceptions are broadly categorized to directional, dimensional, flatness, and optical. The analysis of 10 case projects suggests that the experimental spaces offer joys of finding and interpreting metaphorical forms and meanings caused by the four characteristic categories above. Also, they artificially show the boundaries between reality and virtual spaces in 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional spaces, and form hyper-boundaries, new experience, and an internal mechanism that is vague and chaotic. Therefore, this research concludes that anamorphosis which is a distorted perspective, is not only a simple measure to overcome perspectival errors, but is an existence suitable to the current era, that will extend its potential and value in spatial design.

The scarf design expressing the cube form space change (큐브 형태의 공간 변화를 표현한 스카프 디자인)

  • This paper focuses on the spatial changes that create a three-dimensional or deep feeling on the surface of a scarf centering on the cube shape. Through this, consumers with various tastes were able to satisfy their image presentation. The cube form has simplicity and order and is likely to be used as a formative object. The cube shapes can be expressed in various forms through visual and perceptual spatial changes by presenting various shape changes based on the viewpoint of the two-dimensional silk surface, that is, by changing the eyes' position and orientation. Various visual theorists' discussions about cube-shaped visual changes were discussed. In addition, the three-dimensional spatial illusion caused by the shape and color of Victor Bazaarelli's cube was examined. The cube shape was printed silk surfaces to give a three-dimensional sense of space on a two-dimensional scarf design using the size change, the difference in the length of the line, and the color change. As such, the cube shape has infinite possibilities as a method that can express three-dimensional depth and space on the flat surface of a scarf. Therefore, it is hoped that this study will be applied to various aspects as the basic data for the scarf design that expresses the spatial changes in the form of cubes.

A Case Study on Simplification Strategies of Logo Design from the Perspective of Gestalt Psychology

  • This paper delves into the application of Gestalt psychology principles in logo design. It analyzes how these principles refine design elements to bolster the efficiency and impact of visual communication. Drawing from Gestalt psychology perspectives, the theoretical foundations and application methods of logo design simplification strategies are discussed. Through the analysis of Gestalt psychology effects in various types and styles of logo designs, this study compares the applicability and differences of logo design simplification strategies under different cultural and social contexts. Furthermore, it evaluates their role and value in enhancing the innovativeness and communicative impact of logo designs. The findings suggest that strategies informed by Gestalt psychology significantly improve the organization rules within logo designs, such as the relationship between figure and ground, proximity, similarity, and continuity. Thereby they enhance perceptual clarity, cognitive load, and aesthetic satisfaction. Moreover, these strategies promote creative thinking and problem-solving abilities in logo design. The results indicate that simplified design methods not only enhance aesthetic appeal but also improve the adaptability and recognizability of logos across different media and environments. This approach aligns with the minimalist and flat design trends of today's information age, meeting the evolving needs and aesthetic preferences of consumers.
