  • A system for estimating daily paddy irrigation water requirements was developed to simulate daily stream flows that reflect various upstream and downstream return flows from river basin. Evapotranspiration in paddy fields was estimated using the modified Penman equation. Daily irrigation water requirements of paddy fields were calculated by multiplying the paddy area and the daily decrease in ponding depth. The system was constructed almost completely using images, grids, etc. in Visual Basic 6.0. The developed model was verified in the Damyang dam, and was used to estimate daily paddy irrigation water requirements at 12 small watersheds in Geum river basin for 20 years, from 1983 to 2002, covering paddy field areas of $3,332\~26,422$ ha. The results on the runoff analysis on the inflow to the Daecheong multi-purpose dam with various return flows were satisfactory. They were reasonable compared to the scenario where return flows were not considered.

  • The image classification is one of the most important studies in the remote sensing. In general, the MLC(Maximum Likelihood Classification) classification that in consideration of distribution of training information is the most effective way but it produces a bad result when we apply it to actual hyperspectral image with the same classification technique. The purpose of this research is to reveal that which one is the most effective and suitable way of the classification algorithms iii the hyperspectral image classification. To confirm this matter, we apply the MLC classification algorithm which has distribution information and SAM(Spectral Angle Mapper), SFF(Spectral Feature Fitting) algorithm which use average information of the training class to both multispectral image and hyperspectral image. I conclude this result through quantitative and visual analysis using confusion matrix could confirm that SAM and SFF algorithm using of spectral pattern in vector domain is more effective way in the hyperspectral image classification than MLC which considered distribution.

  • Large-scale retrieval algorithm is problem for visual analyses applications, along its research track. In this paper, we propose a high-efficiency region division-based image retrieve approaches, which fuse low-level local color histogram feature and texture feature. A novel image region division is proposed to roughly mimic the location distribution of image color and deal with the color histogram failing to describe spatial information. Furthermore, for optimizing our region division retrieval method, an image descriptor combining local color histogram and Gabor texture features with reduced feature dimensions are developed. Moreover, we propose an extended Canberra distance method for images similarity measure to increase the fault-tolerant ability of the whole large-scale image retrieval. Extensive experimental results on several benchmark image retrieval databases validate the superiority of the proposed approaches over many recently proposed color-histogram-based and texture-feature-based algorithms.

  • In the article, an analysis of solutions to six problems of geometrical character at the begining of school attendance is shown. Problems were assigned to students individually and were evaluated from different points of view. The previous research was focused mainly on their arithmetical competence. But geometry also belongs in primary education. Therefore we prepared an analogous investigation which was focused on geometrical competence. The experiment confirms that our children have, at the beginning of school attendance, a good level of visual appreciation of their surrounding world. Our schools do not systematically develop further this skill.

  • Fasciclin 1 (FAS1) is an extracellular protein whose aggregation in cornea leads to visual impairment. While a number of FAS1 mutants have been studied that exhibit enhanced/decreased aggregation propensity, no structural information has been provided so far that is associated with distinct aggregation potential. In this study, we have investigated the structural and thermodynamic characteristics of the wild-type FAS1 and its two mutants, R555Q and R555W, by using molecular dynamics simulations and three-dimensional reference interaction site model (3D-RISM) theory. We find that the hydrophobic solvent accessible surface area increases due to hydrophobic core repacking in the C-terminus caused by the mutation. We also find that the solvation free energy of the mutants increases due to the enhanced non-native H-bonding. These structural and thermodynamic changes upon mutation contribute to understand the aggregation of these mutants.

  • The Digital Terrain Model(DTM) data in the Geographic Information System(GIS) needs to be interpolated for various purposes. Three interpolation methods-Bilinear, Bicubic Spline, and Gregory-Newton interpolation-were used, compared, and analyzed in terms of the visual comparison and numerical analysis in the hilly terrain and relatively flat terrain.

  • Defining a metal parameter $(Sp)_c$, which is related to the morphological parameters of C-M diagrams, we have estimated metal abundances for 97 globular clusters in our Galaxy. A correlation between absolute magnitude of the horizontal branch and metal abundance is derived, which is used for the determining distances to globular clusters whose visual magnitudes of the horizontal branch are known. The space distribution of globular clusters and the chemical evolution of the halo are examined. Our analysis suggests an initial mean gradient of metallicity to be d[Fe/H]/$dr_G$ = -0.06 $kpc^{-1}$ for the halo in galactocentric distance, $r_G$<20 kpc. Our findings also imply a slow collapse of protogalaxy.

  • The error diffusion algorithm is good for reproducing continuous images to binary images. However the reproduction of edge characteristics is weak in power spectrum an analysis of display error. In this paper an edge enhanced error diffusion method is proposed to improve the edge characteristic enhancement. Spatial gradient information in original image is adapted for edge enhance in threshold modulation of error diffusion. First the horizontal and vertical second order differential values are obtained from the gradient of peripheral pixels(3x3) in original image. second weighting function is composed by function including absolute value and sign of second order differential values. The proposed method presents a good visual results which edge characteristics is enhanced. The performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the conventional edge enhanced error diffusion by measuring the edge correlation and the local average accordance over a range of viewing distances and the RAPSD of display error.

  • Luminance is the most important quantity in lighting design and illuminating engineering. There are three methods for measuring luminance; using a conventional luminance meter, through the illuminance measurement and subsequent calculations and using digital imaging photometer. Recently, HDRI(High Dynamic Range Imaging) technique introduces a new method of capturing luminance values in a lighting environment. The radiance maps from HDRI are commonly used as visual environment maps for lighting analysis applications. For the HDRI, HDR software is needed to create HDR image. Currently, there is number of HDR software available. The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether a luminance map can be accurately captured by the various types of HDR software which include HDR Shop and Photoshop. To accomplish this goal a set of experiments was conducted. In order to assess the luminance values of the HDR image from HDR software, the values had to be compared to the ones obtained with conventional methods of luminance measurement.
