A Study on Mixing Expression Methods of Finish Materials for Visual Differentiation in Housing Space (주거공간의 시각적 차별화를 위한 마감재 혼합적 표현방법 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to grope for plan methods through analyzing preferences on expression methods of materials for visual differentiation in hosing space. The results are as follows : First, we could know that finish material is the important element to make differential design in housing space. It is a effective method to use the color and material of finish materials. Second, we could find they preferred woods in materials and Y color, N9.5, bright and light in colors through grasping preference about types in material elements. The preferred texture is soft and the preferred patterns are solid and geometry. Third, it is a good method to mix materials which give us different season feeling, and to mix colors which are different tones to lead the differential design by materials in housing space. In case texture and patterns, what we mix similar things is the effective method. Fourth, preference of the expression method is manifested differently depending on the selected elements. so when we plan the housing, we have to consider that. lastly, I think this study will be a basic data on a study to differentiate the design of the residential space.

  • Comer point is a very important information to a pattern recognition of image processing. And so, many researchers develope various detecting comer point algoritms. But, there are some problems to get comer points by 8 directional chain code when the degree of edge line is not integer multiplication of 45 degree. So, we propose a new algorithm which is combined with morphology and human visual conception for optimal comer points without the above defects. We get a good simulation result by this proposed algorithm Ana so, we think this algorithm is very useful to FA(factory automation} and ship's radar system to know some coastal area from its image.

  • The principle of human perception, behavior, and thought is presented in the traditional interface design study that is ease to use and increase the learn-ability. We believe that the usability is related to user's affection. The goal of this paper is to investigate how visual metaphor works in usability and affection in interface to analyse the effect of visual metaphor to user affection. Literature reviews for the concept of metaphor and affection design conducted. We analyse the effect to user's affection through think-aloud i.e. protocol analysis for metaphor.

SPACIAL POEM: A New Type of Experimental Visual Interaction in 3D Virtual Environment

  • There is always a rhythm in our language and speech. As soon as we speech out, even just simple words and voice we make are edited as various emotions and information. Through this process we succeed or fail in our communication, and it becomes a fun communication or a monotonous delivery. Even with the same music, impression of the play can be different according to each musician' s emotion and their understanding. We 'play' our language in the same way as that. However, I think, people are used to the variety, which is, in fact, the variation of a set format covered with hollow variety. People might have been living loosing or limiting their own creative way to express themselves by that hollow variety. SPACIAL POEM started from this point. This is a new type of 'real-time visual interaction' expressing our own creative narrative as real-time visual by playing a musical instrument which is an emotional human behavior. Producing many kinds of sound by playing musical instruments is the same behavior with which we express our emotions through. There are sensors on each hole on the surface of the musical instrument. When you play it, sensors recognize that you have covered the holes. All sensors are connected to a keyboard, which means your playing behavior becomes a typing action on the keyboard. And I programmed the visual of your words to spread out in a virtual 3D space when you play the musical instrument. The behavior when you blow the instrument, to make sounds, changes into the energy that makes you walk ahead continuously in a virtual space. I used a microphone sensor for this. After all by playing musical instrument, we get back the emotion we forgot so far, and my voice is expressed with my own visual language in virtual space.

Spatial Composition of Drugstore Applied with Experience Marketing for Sales Promotion - Focused on the Health & Beauty Stores around the Hong-Ik University - (판매촉진을 위한 체험마케팅이 적용된 드럭스토어 공간구성 - 홍대앞 H&B 스토어를 중심으로 -)

  • In a rapidly changing market, the companies are applying a variety of elements for promoting sales for the inflow of consumers. For the elements of sales promotion, the tendency to apply the experiential marketing that provides a positive recognition centering on the customers, and in such tendency, the consumers places the values on the experience obtained from the spatial elements of sales promotion provided by the companies. As it is reflected on the life style of consumers, the drugstores applied with the experiential marketing as a mean of sales promotion is rapidly growing in the distribution market. In this study, the elements of sales promotion was picked out and 5 types of experience such as sense, feel, think, act, relate of Bernd H. Schmitt was investigated. The spatial composition of drugstores were classified into destination, assortment, convenience and occasion, and through self experienced visual research, the experiential marketing strategy applied to drugstores and the elements of sales promotion applied with experiential marketing was analyzed. The streets of Hongik University as a strategic point of beauty, by selecting four H&B stores which were recently opened, a future direction is proposed by conducting the case analysis on the elements of sales promotion of drugstores and the spatial composition of drugstores applied with experiential marketing. In conclusion, in overall space, the behavioral experiential elements are weak. The behavioral experiential elements are a marketing that induce the intuitive behavior added with expertise and considered difficult to be maintained. Although the consumers think that the biggest value of drugstores is 'free and convenient product test' but in the other hand, they tend to think most positively about the consulting of experts. Therefore, the space emphasized with expertise should be more highlighted but such space should consider the convenience of consumers.

  • This study examined how users use smart speakers in cooking situations. Skilled and unskilled participants cooked a new recipe while following voice instructions delivered by a smart speaker. The results from video recordings of their cooking, think-aloud protocols, and interviews showed that the smart speakers freed users' hands, allowing them to cook while checking recipes. The lack of visual information did not pose a serious challenge to the cooking task, but impacted cooking quality. The implications for VUI-based recipe service designs are discussed.

Classification of Blowout Fracture (안와 파열 골절의 분류)

  • Purpose: Blowout fracture can lead to functional impairments and esthetic deformities such as impairment of ocular movement, diplopia, visual loss and enophthalmos. The object of this study is to present a classification and its analysis according to the computed tomographic scan in blowout fractures. We classified blow out fractures into three types according to the anatomical location of fracture, the size of the bone defect and the degree of periosteal injury by using the computed tomography scan. Each progress and complications were analyzed more than mean 1 year. Methods: Among the 155 cases during 4 years, there were 11 cases of medial orbital wall fracture, 97 cases of inferior orbital wall fracture, 47 cases of combined type. The mean age of patients was 31.2 years, ranged from 8 to 84 years. Results: According to our classification, surgical treatments through the nasoendoscopic approach, the subciliary approach, the transconjunctival approach or their combinations were performed in 116 patients, and conservative treatments were done in 46 patients. Presurgical clinical findings of diplopia, impairment of ocular movement, enophthalmos of more than 2 mm were present in 62 patients. After surgical treatment, clinical findings were remained in 7 patients. Conclusion: We think that our classification according to computed tomographic scan is helpful for the indication and it may decrease the complications such as impairment of ocular movement, diplopia, visual loss and enophthalmos.

The Case Report about Baastrup's Disease Treated with Conservative Treatment (Baastrup's disease의 보존적 치료에 대한 증례)

  • Objectives : This report was performed to evaluate the treatment of acupuncture therapy, Bee venom acupuncture therapy and herbal medication in Baastrup's disease. Methods : We treated 1 case of Baastrup's disease with acupuncture therapy, Bee venom acupuncture therapy one times a week and took herbal medicine after a meal two times daily. The patients' symptoms were assessed 3 month, 6 month, 9 month by Visual analogue scale(VAS), Oswestry disability index(ODI). Results : Visual Analog Scale(VAS), Oswestry Disability Index(ODI) was significantly improved after treatment for 9 months. Conclusions : This study suggested that acupuncture therapy, Bee venom acupuncture therapy and herbal medicine can be effective for decreasing pain and improving functional recovery. We think that it need the further study and clinical trial for Baastrup's disease.

  • Unlike pure art such as painting and sculpture, dressmaking , a field of special plastic art, is characterized by its physical and functional nature. Having an inseparable relation with form, it is a field of art expressiion the human innersense of beauty in correlation with other various fields of art. In this respect, I think it should be necessary for us to study the forms of art from the past in order to study the forms of art from the past in order to study the correlations and mutual influencies between forms of pure art and dressmaking and to understand modern dressmaking from the standpoint of art. In this context, this study is an attempt to analze how the form and characteristics of OP ART , which represents the trends of the 1960's is embodied in modern dresses. The results are as follows : Fist , the expression of OP ART in dresses have visual effects harmonizing with bodily movements and , also, expanded the range and dynamics of expression which resulted from the introduction of visual phenomena in a fresh new sense by not limiting itself to the suggestion of patterns of OP ART. Second, OP ART paintings expressed the mobility and rhythimicity of a body in a limited space in a two-dimensional plane way of expression . When a dress is worn, however, it expands such mobility and rhythmicity in a cubic , three-dimensional way, maximizing the effects of , and boldly expression, OP ART, it can also create a new silhuette and ability of formation by seeking an open expression of OP ART rather than an expression of OP ART it self , due to the infinite possibility and unpredictability by the dynamics of movements and the elements principle of designs. Third , by applying the patterns of OP ART to dresses, we can obtain special visual effects of design, cover up the body's weak points, and create a desired three -dimensional sense by highlighting the beauty of the body's curved lines. Although modern dresses and OP ART are different genres of art, both have something in common in their pusuits. Since there is a infinite possibility in OP ART, there should be continuous attempts to combine dresses and art satisfying the sense of the times, which will lead dressmaking to a higher-dimensional dressmaking plastic art.

Putting Images into Second Language: Do They Survive in the Written Drafts?

  • Much has already been learned about what goes on in the minds of second language writers as they compose, yet, oddly enough, until recently little in the L2 research literature has addressed writing and mental imagery together. However, images and imaging (visual thinking) play a crucial role in perception (the basis of mental imagery), in turn, affecting language, thinking, and writing. Many theorists of mental imagery also agree that more than just language accounts for how we think and that imagery is at least as crucial as language. All of these demands, to be sure, are compounded for EFL students, which is why I investigate EFL students' writing process, focusing on the use of mental imagery and its relationship to the writing. First I speculate upon some ways that imagery influences EFL students' composing processes and products. Next, I want to explore how and whether the images in a writer's mind can be shaped effectively into a linear piece of written English in one's writing. I studied two university undergraduate EFL students, L and J. They had fairly advanced levels of English proficiency and exhibited high level of writing ability, as measured by TOEFL iBT Test. Each student wrote two comparison and contrast essays: one written under specified time limitations and the other written without the pressure of time. In order to investigate whether the amount of time in itself causes differences within an individual in imagery ability, the students were placed under strict time constraints for Topic 1. But for Topic 2, they were encouraged to take as much time as necessary to complete this essay. Immediately after completing their essays, I conducted face-to-face retrospective interviews with students to prompt them for information about the role of imagery as they write. Both L and J have spent more time on their second (untimed) essays. Without time constraint, they produced longer texts on untimed essay (149 vs. 170; 186 vs 284 words). However, despite a relatively long period of time spent writing an essay, these students neither described their images nor detailed them in their essays. Although their mental imagery generated an explosion of ideas for their writings, most visual thinking must merely be a means toward an end-pictures that writers spent in purchasing the right words or ideas.
