Methods : The patient in this case was 27-year-old female. The chief complains were coccygodynia and depression. She was treated by Traditional Korean medicine, acupuncture and Chuna Manipulation. The progress of symptoms was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index(ODI). Results : After those Traditional Korean therapy, most symptoms were improved. Coccygodynia and uncomfortableness in normal life improved, and ODI was decreased from 35 to 17. Conclusion : This case shows that Traditional Korean therapy might be effective in decreasing symptoms on coccygodynia and depression of postpartum.

  • Objective : In the present study, we evaluate visual outcomes after surgical removal of craniopharyngiomas and analyze the factors that are considered to affect visual outcomes. Methods : This study includes 30 patients with craniopharyngioma, who underwent surgery in this clinic during the last 10 years. The changes of visual function [visual acuity and field] of the patients were assessed preoperatively and postoperatively, and paired data of this change were compared. Also, the factors that influence on this change were analysed. Results : Among the 21 patients complaining of decreased vision before the operation, 8 patients were improved [38.0%], and 7 patients were worse [33.3%]. However, Four out of 9 patients without any preoperative visual symptoms developed worse vision after the operation [44.4%]. The average duration of symptom was 17.2 months in the improved group and 23.6 months in the aggravated group. The tumors recurred in only 5 patients after the gross total resection : Four of them showed the aggravation of visual function after surgical removal and 1 had improvement. Conclusion : After removal of craniopharyngiomas, the overall rate of vision improvement, no change and aggravation are 26.6%, 36.7% and 36.7%, respectively. Aggravation of postoperative visual function is higher in males, children and patients with a longer duration of symptom and the tumor recurres more frequently in patients who complained of worsened vision after surgical removal.

  • Methods : We investigated 28 cases of patients with thoracolumbar compression fracture. We divided patients into two groups : We treated one group with complex oriental medical treatment focusing on Bee Venom Acupuncture therapy, and did the other group with complex oriental medical treatment focusing on acupuncture therapy. To investigate the effectiveness of treatment applied for two groups, we used Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and Oswestry Low-back Pain Disability Index(ODI). We compared the VAS score and ODI score of two groups statistically. Results : 1. Female is prominent in distribution of sex, the average age bracket is 70's, and the largest group was Faccidental fall in the distribution of cause. 2. In regard to level of injury, T12 was found to be most prominent, followed in turn by L1, L2. In regard to grade of clinical symptoms, Grade III was most prominent, followed by Grade IV, Grade II. 3. As a result of evaluation by using VAS score and ODI score, treatment score at final was significantly different from that at the baseline in each group. 4. After treatment, Bee Venom acupuncture therapy group showed significant difference on VAS score and ODI score compared with acupuncture therapy group. Conclusions : Bee Venom acupuncture therapy can be available for relieving symptoms related with thoracolumbar compression fracture.

  • Objective : This study reports the effect of korean medicine on ptosis patient 1 case diagnosed as idiopathic oculomoter nerve palsy. Methods : We experienced one case of ptosis diagnosed as idiopathic oculomoter nerve palsy treated with herbal medicine and acupuncture. Ptosis and associated symptoms had been estimated with difference of both eye's interpalpebral fissure and VAS(Visual Analogue Scale). Result : After the treatment, symptoms were decreased and almost disappeared. In this case, difference of both eye's interpalpebral fissure decreased from 6mm to 1mm in a month. Conclusion : This study suggests that korean medicine is effective on ptosis diagnosed as idiopathic oculomoter nerve palsy.

  • Purpose: The aim of this pilot study was to determine the effect of soft tissue technique (STT) in Axillary Web Syndrome (AWS) following sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in breast cancer patients by examining the upper extremity function, range of motion, and pain. Methods: Nineteen patients with breast cancer-related AWS were evaluated. STT was performed on the symptom area for treatment of AWS symptoms. We evaluated AWS symptoms and pain intensity using a visual analogue scale (VAS), and functional disability using the Korean version of the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire, glenohumeral joint (GHJ) flexion and abduction range of motion (ROM) with or without elbow extension. Results: Visual analyses of the data suggest a modest effect of STT in improving GHJ flexion, abduction ROM with or without elbow extension, DASH for upper extremity function, and Pain. The statistically significant improvement in baseline observed for pain, DASH, and ROM data made it impossible to assess the effects of STT on those outcomes. There were no adverse events. Conclusions: STT may be an effective and safe treatment option for AWS patients recovering from breast cancer treatment; however, further research is needed.
